The Undertaker Could Reportedly Miss WWE WrestleMania 29

October 25, 2012 By: Category: WWE | Pro Wrestling

WWE WrestleMania 28 may have truly been the end of an era. According to reports, The Undertaker is considering missing WrestleMania 29. Injuries have caught up to the Dead Man who is looking unlikely to go in April.

The report comes from PWInsider.com. The report claims that The Undertaker is banged up right now and that he won’t be ready to wrestle at WrestleMania 29. According to the report, The Undertaker badly damaged an already fragile hip at WrestleMania 28. The Undertaker has been seeing specialists but the word behind the scenes is that he will be unavailable for the New Jersey event.

One interesting nugget coming out of the report is that The Undertaker may wind up wrestling in the near future after all. The report indicates that there is consideration to enter The Undertaker in the Royal Rumble. The idea behind this would be to give WWE fans some Undertaker, yet allow The Undertaker to get in and out without a lot of physicality.

This would mark the first time The Undertaker has missed a WrestleMania since WrestleMania 2000. Twelve WrestleMania events in a row is quite an impressive streak for anyone. I would imagine reading between the lines here is that The Undertaker would miss WrestleMania 29 but come back for the big one in 2014.

The Undertaker was penciled in to have a prominent match at this year’s event. Several rumors included a big Undertaker vs. John Cena match or a CM Punk vs. Undertaker bout. Reports suggested that The Undertaker vs. CM Punk match was the likely direction, although Cena vs. Taker was an idea if they planned on going with Cena vs. The Rock at the Royal Rumble.

Either match would be big to WrestleMania 29. The loss of The Undertaker, especially considering who he was wrestling is huge. This leaves CM Punk (should that be the direction they were going) without a major opponent for the event. Contrary to some rumors, Steve Austin is not wrestling at WrestleMania. He is at least a year away from returning to the ring. I suppose they could turn Brock and do a Brock vs. Punk match but the options are limited.

Regardless it just won’t seem like WrestleMania without some kind of appearance from The Undertaker. Whether he appears or not it truly looks like the career of one of the greatest WWE stars of our lifetime is winding down for sure.
