The Top 5 wrestlers the WWE should push post-Wrestlemania 28 – Inside The Wheelhouse

April 19, 2012 By: Category: WWE | Pro Wrestling

Dolph ZigglerWrestleMania season is typically a time where a good amount of wrestlers get “lost in the shuffle” of the card itself. Now with WrestleMania season over it’s the time to push forward towards the WWE’s 2nd biggest PPV of the year, Summerslam and push different wrestlers in the post-WrestleMania 28 world. With that being said let’s look at the top 5 wrestlers the WWE should push post-WrestleMania 28.

5. Kofi Kingston

Kofi has dabbled in a main event feud with Randy Orton in the past but ever since that he hasn’t gotten much of a push past the upper mid-card echelon. Kingston is a fan favorite amongst almost all age groups due to his likability and his great in-ring performances. It’s time give him a chance in the spotlight and stop secluding him to the tag team division. I’m not saying give Kingston a World Title run or shot but giving him a nice run with a top heel star like a Kane, Miz, Mark Henry, Christian or even Daniel Bryan would be great to if he has “it” to be a top star in the company.

Besides John Cena, CM Punk and Zack Ryder the most signs or t-shirts I see in the crowd on a normal weekly WWE television basis is for Kingston. The WWE could really make a lot more money if they give Kingston a chance. He’s been with the company for a good amount of time now and we know he can “go” with the best of them. A post-WrestleMania 28 push will serve Kingston and the future of the WWE well.

4. Christian

This response may come as a surprise to some because he is a former World Heavyweight Champion, has been in the WWE long then most people have been on the current roster and isn’t a “young gun” anymore. But let’s face facts here; Christian is the veteran on the WWE roster that can make any talent around him better. Fans seemed to really enjoy his feud with Randy Orton over the summer and were even starting to enjoy his feud with Sheamus before he was taken out with an injury. His addition to any feud makes the star he is feuding with look like a top level talent.

His injury derailed him a good amount towards the end of a very productive 2011, a year if he was healthy throughout it, would make him a top potential “wrestler of the year” candidate for how good he was in the WWE during 2011. He is back, healthy and shouldn’t be held back from any top level feuds in the WWE because he is a main event talent that needs to be showcased. Christian should be pushed post-WrestleMania 28 because not only can he be a top talent, but like I said before you can take any face that is “on the rise” in the WWE (i.e. Kofi Kingston) and help elevate that wrestler’s game as well. Christian is the ultimate “company man” for the WWE.

3. Randy Orton

If you told me that I’d be writing a blog on the top 5 WWE talents that need to be pushed and during some point on that list I’d be writing about Randy Orton I’d tell you that you are out of your mind. But let’s face facts here; outside of CM Punk it was Randy Orton who had a banner year in the WWE throughout 2011. He was a World Champion, had a tremendous feud with Christian, carried the Smackdown brand on his back and elevated talents like Mark Henry, Cody Rhodes & Wade Barrett. Your “father’s version” of Randy Orton was gone and this “new version” of Randy Orton showcased a wrestler that was using his status to help benefit the WWE.

I really believed that Randy Orton should have been in a top match at WrestleMania for his amazing efforts throughout 2011 but that wasn’t in the cards for “The Viper.” Orton is someone who has earned another World Title run and can make various wrestlers in the WWE (Daniel Bryan, Cody Rhodes, Christian & Dolph Ziggler) be looked at as top level heel talent as well. Randy Orton has earned a post-WrestleMania 28 push and I believe should be at the top of that mountain for a good amount of time in 2012.

2. Dolph Ziggler

Dolph Ziggler is a star who was the “right guy at the wrong time” leading up to WrestleMania 28 this year. He had a really good feud with CM Punk leading up to the 2012 Royal Rumble that opened up a lot of fans eyes that this guy was a legit top-tier talent in the WWE. All the WrestleMania 28 hoopla pushed him down the card in a spot he probably shouldn’t have been in but put a ton of promise into what the future holds for this terrific superstar.

First and foremost Dolph Ziggler deserves a World Title run of some sort in 2012. He needs to be booked as this “next top heel” in the WWE and be hungry for the World Title. Ziggler is a pretty good talent in the ring, has a ton of charisma & personality and can cut a pretty good promo as well. All those traits are what make a good superstar in the WWE and he has it. I really expect big things for him in 2012 and believe that come WrestleMania 29 he will be featured in a top spot on the card.

1. Cody Rhodes

If it wasn’t for the way he built his feud with The Big Show leading into WrestleMania 28 he probably would’ve been behind Dolph Ziggler on this list. But that build up proved to me that Cody Rhodes is a future megastar in the WWE. I say this because if you go back to WrestleMania 27 and his feud with Rey Mysterio he built the feud really well with the former World Champion. Some refer to it as possibly the best build to any of the WrestleMania matches on the card last year.

You then fast forward to this year and he had that moniker yet again as the Rhodes/Big Show build gave Rock/Cena a run for its money in making people want to see this match. This is because Cody Rhodes is a top level star in the WWE that needs to breakout post-WrestleMania 28. Potential feuds he could have with top stars like CM Punk and John Cena would make fans want to see it because it’s fresh & new in the WWE.

Rhodes is my number one selection to get a push post-WrestleMania 28 and is my early favorite to be featured in some sort of top main event match at WrestleMania 29. Rhodes has all the qualities of a top star and at such a young age. He has the in-ring talent, the charisma, the personality, the showmanship and can cut a great promo just like his father. While Dolph Ziggler will have “it” eventually, Cody Rhodes already has “it” and needs to be featured as a top star now that WrestleMania 28 is in the books.

WWE Money In The Bank 2011 DVD Review

August 24, 2011 By: Category: WWE | Pro Wrestling

WWE Money in the Bank DVDFor this recap, I will be taking a look at the recent WWE DVD release for this year’s WWE Money In The Bank 2011 PPV. Now, don’t expect a whole lot here, for the simple reason that this event has been covered to death (that, and I already watched it the day it aired), both here on Camel Clutch Blog and elsewhere. This year’s event saw what we thought was the culmination of the hottest feud of the year between CM Punk and John Cena with the WWE Championship at stake. For those of you that didn’t see it, you missed what many consider (including myself) to be the best PPV that the WWE has put on in years. And for those of you that did see it, you know exactly what I’m talking about. Honestly, this was probably the best PPV since One Night Stand 2006, and that’s saying something.

From top to bottom, the card was exceptional. While there were two definite “miss break” matches-that being Kelly Kelly/Brie Bella and Big Show/Mark Henry, the rest of the card was top notch, filled with plenty of suspense and drama, as well as at least 2 endings that surprised most fans.

MATCH 1-Money in the Bank ladder match for a shot at the World Championship: Daniel Bryan vs. Sin Cara vs. Cody Rhodes vs. Wade Barrett vs. Heath Slater vs. Justin Gabriel vs. Kane vs. Sheamus
This was definitely the superior of the two MITB matches on the card. Sheamus and Wade Barrett looked especially dominant during the match, including Sheamus powerbombing Sin Cara through a ladder, completely removing him from the match. Sheamus also proceeded to Brogue Kick the hell out of everyone during the match, which actually got a lot of cheers from the Chicago crowd. Honestly, I think this is the match that began planting the seeds for Sheamus’ face turn, as he was definitely over with the crowd here. Anyway, it looked like Wade Barrett was about to win the match with a Wasteland through a propped up ladder, but Daniel Bryan shocked the world when he not only fought out of the move, but managed to snag the briefcase and practically guarantee himself a World Championship.

WINNER: Daniel Bryan. Seeing Bryan win was most definitely a shocker, but a welcome one at that. No one deserved to win this match more than Bryan, and you could see genuine emotion on his face as he held onto the briefcase. That’s something that is such a rarity in wrestling today, and I for one always welcome it. Bryan busted his ass in the match, making everyone look good including himself. Vince McMahon happens to be a big fan of Daniel Bryan’s, so don’t expect him to be the first person to cash in and fail.

MATCH 2-WWE Divas Championship: WWE Divas Champion Kelly Kelly (w/Eve Torres) vs. Brie Bella (w/Nikki Bella)
Total waste of card space. We get a few minutes of a match, and Kelly expectantly wins the match with the K2.

WINNER AND STILL CHAMPION: Kelly Kelly. Waste of time and energy. Kelly Kelly is only slightly less worthless than Brie Bella, but only very slightly. Eve and Nikki added absolutely nothing to the match, either.

MATCH 3: The Big Show vs. Mark Henry
The other piss break match of the show. Basic big man stuff throughout. The only good thing about this match is the fact that Henry actually completely dominated Show throughout the match and got a clean pin after after 2 World’s Strongest Slams and 2 running splashes.

WINNER: Mark Henry. After the match, Henry Pillmanized Big Show’s leg, putting him on the shelf. This would be the true beginning of Henry as a monster, as he would do the same thing to numerous opponents after this PPV and continue his annual pseudo-push. While I have no hopes for him winning the World title from Randy Orton, this is actually probably the best he’s ever been pushed in his entire 15-year career.

MATCH 4-Money in the Bank ladder match for a shot at the WWE Championship: Alberto Del Rio vs. Rey Mysterio vs. Kofi Kingston vs. Alex Riley vs. Evan Bourne vs. The Miz vs. Jack Swagger vs. R-Truth
While this one was not as good as its RAW brethren, it was still a pretty damn good match. Miz was taken out early after a fall to the floor that led to him selling to a knee injury. In all honesty, I’m surprised he wasn’t actually hurt off the fall, as his knee looked really bad. It could have just been due to some great camera work, though. He eventually returned to the match (albeit limping) and it looked as though he was going to win MITB for the second year in a row. However, this was Del Rio’s night. After pulling off Mysterio’s mask while they fought atop a ladder, causing him to focus on hiding his face, ADR knocked Mysterio to the mat, climbed back up the ladder and grabbed the case.

WINNER: Alberto Del Rio. This match was a little predictable, as I didn’t see anyone else winning this except ADR, compared to the Smackdown match which was a total surprise. This match could have been better had it not been for the botched spots at the end with Mysterio seemingly falling to the mat from the ladder accidentally, as well as ADR falling from his ladder to do it collapsing as a result of getting beaten up. Aside from that, though, the match was great and truly began ADR’s ascent into being a full-fledged main eventer.

Check out the full Camel Clutch Blog Pro Wrestling and MMA store for videos, t-shirts, books, and more.

MATCH 5-World Championship: World Champion Randy Orton vs. Christian
Honestly, Orton needs Christian. As it stands right now, Christian is seemingly the only guy who can continuously make Randy Orton look good. This match had a stipulation that, if Orton got himself DQ’ed, he would lose the title. Christian had this in mind and repeatedly tried to get Orton riled up and get himself in trouble. Eventually, it did work. Christian spat in Orton’s face, which got Orton pissed to the point that he blatantly low-blowed Christian right in front of the referee, leading to the disqualification win.

WINNER AND NEW CHAMPION: Christian. Honestly, I was a little surprised by the end result of this match. I expected Christian to win due to them harping on the DQ rule prior to the match, but considering it was only DQ that was mentioned, I fully expected Christian to get a BS win via count-out. However, Christian did pick up the DQ win and became a 2-time champion. Unfortunately, this also led to him dropping the title right back to Orton the very next month. One funny thing of note: after the match, Orton tried to RKO Christian through the announce table, but the table refused to break after 2 tries. For the next two weeks, Orton proceeded to be defeated by the same table on episodes of Smackdown.

MATCH 6-WWE Championship: WWE Champion John Cena vs. CM Punk
This was THE match of the card, and basically the entire selling point for the PPV. While it’s no secrete (at least, to those who know me), I am no fan of John Cena whatsoever. However, I have to give the devil his due. Every time he and Punk square off, he delivers. Granted, a lot of the credit has to go to Punk who can make damn near anyone look good, but Cena most definitely carried his weight in the match. He and Punk went move for move for nearly an hour, trading counter after counter and reversing each other’s finishers regularly. The fact that this was in Punk’s hometown and the crowd was roughly 98 percent behind him just added to the overall feel and emotion of the match. When you also add in that Punk was expected to leave the WWE immediately after and the drama was amped up to its maximum. For promoters wondering, THIS is an example of perfect main event booking. Anyway, after a very long, well-fought match, it appeared Cena was going to take it as he locked in the STF. John Laurinaitis ran down to the ring in an attempt to recreate Montreal ’97, but was intercepted by Cena. This distraction led to Punk immediately scooping Cena up in the GTS as soon as he got back in the ring and the 3-count.

WINNER AND NEW CHAMPION: CM Punk. Although we didn’t realize it would continue at the time, this match was the culmination of one of the hottest angles done in years, and it ended exactly the way it should have. Although Alberto Del Rio did attempt to cash in his briefcase on orders from Vince McMahon, Punk intercepted ADR with a roundhouse to the head before leaving the arena through the crowd, although not before blowing a kiss at McMahon as he held the belt up triumphantly. There are not enough good things that can be said about this match and how it was done. On top of that, I found it to be a legitimate shocker. Everyone believed that Punk was really leaving WWE, and I don’t know of too many people who would have guessed he’d walk out as champion anyway. This is one of two moments (the other being Bryan winning MITB) during this PPV where I completely marked out and yelled as I jumped off my couch. Moments like that don’t happen very often for me anymore, so when they do, you know they are truly special.

SPECIAL FEATURES
Honestly, there is barely anything here to cover. All that there is is an interview by Matt Striker with Daniel Bryan after winning the MITB match. Bryan talks about how unbelievable winning the case was and how hard he worked to get it.

While this is a pretty bare bones DVD, I can’t recommend it enough. It was just such an overall good show that it’s well worth the money to add it to your collection. Even if you’ve already seen it or read the results the day of the show, I still recommend picking it up. I still got excited reliving parts of this show as I re-watched it for this review. You probably won’t see another wrestling PPV like this for a long time (although I hope I am wrong about that), so do yourself a favor and add it to your collection, or the very least, your wish list.

Money in the Bank Job well done WWE – Inside the Wheelhouse

July 18, 2011 By: Category: WWE | Pro Wrestling

Will CM Punk stay or leave the WWE?I said on this week’s edition of “The Still Real to Us Show” (available for download at www.wheelhouseradio.com *cheap plug*) that if CM Punk won & walked out of WWE Money in the Bank 2011 with the WWE Championship it would have to be a historic moment in wrestling history.

That the match needed to deliver and give the fans what they wanted & it did. WWE Money in the Bank will go down as one of the best pay-per-views, if not the best WWE PPV of 2011 and may go down as one of the most historically significant PPV’s of all-time. It’s what every wrestling fans wants at the end of a show or PPV & we got it, good wrestling, great storytelling and craving wanting more.

The hype for the Pay-Per-View was unreal and something we haven’t seen like this since Wrestlemania 26 & if you weren’t hyped for that then you need to go back to ECW One Night Stand 2006. It was the buzz of the wrestling and pop culture worlds & it was bringing fans that left wrestling shortly after the “attitude era” back to their couches to watch a 3 hour WWE Pay-Per-View. For the last three weeks of WWE television wrestling has been deemed “cool” once again.

CM Punk’s promo following the RAW Roulette was one of the most talked about topics in social networking and pop culture outside of the wrestling world circles. It had the same impact as when The Rock returned to WWE television in February despite the ratings dip for the summer months. Had the WWE done this angle going into Wrestlemania 27 there would be no doubt that Wrestlemania 27 would be the most hyped & selling Wrestlemania of all-time. The fans ate up this storyline and rightfully so.

Wrestling fans enjoy realism in their storylines and this had the makings of those findings all over it. They want to feel the line of “is this real” or “is this not real” as they watch WWE television because that’s what makes it so damn compelling. Compelling storylines and great story tellers give us something to tune for, the great mat wrestling that follows after that is icing on the cake and that is what this storyline delivered.

What we have seen the last three weeks is that CM Punk has officially broken through whatever pieces were left blocking him in the glass ceiling of the WWE. He is a legit and forever will be a main eventer in the WWE. His career, despite all his accolades leading up to these moments he has given us in recent weeks, will always be remembered by what he did leading up to and at “Money in the Bank 2011” for the rest of his career.

John Cena showed wrestling fans that whether you like him or hate him, you have to respect him. He did what people criticize him for not doing all the time and that’s telling a story & wrestling. I’m not the biggest John Cena fan in the world but I respect what he did for the business on Sunday night by being a great storyteller. It takes two to tango and don’t discredit what Cena did by just thinking it was CM Punk, he deserves as much credit as Punk does for the way WWE built this storyline & told the story.

Then there is Vince McMahon and the WWE Creative Team. The grumblings in recent months is that Vince McMahon may be getting too old to know what is good for his company, product and fan base. Well he proved that he and the creative team still have it by giving us a compelling story that made us tune into the PPV in the first place and make us want to watch RAW the next night. That’s the basic formula of wrestling, give them entertainment by telling a story inside & outside the ring and they will keep coming back for more. Major props go out to Vince & the creative team for being so outside the box with this entire storyline.

Wrestling needs to be unpredictable and that’s exactly what we got on Sunday night. We want more and will tune into Monday Night RAW to see the next chapter of this story. At least for the time being the WWE has delivered on a storyline that could be so compelling it rocket ships them back into the prominence they once received. Wrestling has become so predictable and flat over the years that we sometimes forget why we tune in to watch wrestling, CM Punk, John Cena & Vince McMahon showed us we watch wrestling.

I said on SRTU that it needed to be a historic night for this storyline to deliver and it certainly was historic. The WWE is clicking on all cylinders as of right now; let’s hope this continues for the sake of the business as we may be seeing the dawning of a new era in professional wrestling. Congrats to the WWE, CM Punk, John Cena & Vincce McMahon and a job well done, thank you for making Money in the Bank 2011 memorable & historic.

WWE Money in the Bank 2011 Results & Report; CM Punk Leaves WWE With the Belt

July 17, 2011 By: Category: WWE | Pro Wrestling

C M Punk wins the WWE title at Money in the BankAfter weeks of anticipation, CM Punk walked into the Allstate Arena on the final night of his World Wrestling Entertainment contract to challenge WWE champion John Cena at WWE Money in the Bank.  How would the most-discussed storyline in years payoff?  What two Superstars would obtain a Money in the Bank briefcase?  There’s only one way to find out!

The following is my ongoing blog and WWE Money in the Bank 2011 play by play of the night’s pay per view.

First up is the Smackdown Money in the Bank match.  Your competitors – Sin Cara, Wade Barrett, Justin Gabriel, Heath Slater, Cody Rhodes, Kane, Daniel Bryan, and Sheamus.  The diehard wrestling fans have been salivating at the thought of this match.  It doesn’t have the names that the RAW match has, but it possesses the most versatile group of the two matches.

After a bit of using the ladder as a weapon to take out both Sin Cara and Daniel Bryan, Slater and Gabriel tug away for control of the ladder.  Slater pushes the ladder into the ring and tosses Gabriel off of the apron.  Slater is the first to set up the ladder in the ring.  Gabriel gets into the ring and is the first man to start climbing it.  After Bryan knocks Gabriel off with a top-rope drop kick, Cody Rhodes starts climbing towards the briefcase.  Sheamus quickly takes him off though with an attempt of the Celtic Cross.

After a bit of back and forth, Gabriel, Slater, and Sin Cara each take turns hitting impressive plancha’s to the outside.  Gabriel hits a standard plancha on Kane, Slater nails a corkscrew plancha on Sheamus, and Sin Cara launches himself over the top rope with a visually-impressive cross body.

Sin Cara continues on a roll with his high-flying maneuvers.  Daniel Bryan becomes his next target.  Bryan climbs the rope to take advantage of a recovering Sin Cara, but he’s quickly caught with a C4.  Cara’s roll quickly ends though as he’s leveled with a Brogue Kick from Sheamus.  Sheamus then puts Sin Cara through a ladder that has ringside ref’s calling for EMT’s.  Cara eventually is carried out of the ring on a stretcher.

It would then be Kane’s turn to dominate.  After cleaning out the ring, Kane began his ascent to the top, but was quickly stopped by Corre members Barrett, Gabriel, and Slater.  Daniel Bryan makes the save before he, too, is attacked by the Corre trio.  This hot Chicago crowd is already starting the “CM PUNK, CM PUNK” chants.

Slater and Gabriel eventually turn on Barrett and send him to the outside.  Slater and Gabriel begin to climb opposite sides of the ladder in the ring, but Cody Rhodes gets in the ring and tips the ladder, sending both guys into the ropes.  Slater is then the victim of a Cross Rhodes.  Cody starts to climb the ladder towards the briefcase, but is stopped by Barrett who is also hit with a Cross Rhodes.  Sheamus quickly evens things up.

Daniel Bryan gets into the ring and starts climbing the ladder, but Sheamus stops him and puts him on his shoulders for an electric chair drop.  Instead of falling back, he turns towards the corner ropes where Kane is waiting.  Kane flies off the top rope and folds Bryan in half with a Doomsday Device, which should only make this Chicago crowd happy.  An “LOD, LOD” chant breaks out.  Kane and Sheamus battle for a bit before Kane removes Sheamus from the ring.

Kane starts climbing the ladder once again, but Daniel Bryan makes a miraculous recovery and is back chasing Kane up the ladder.  After a bit of work, he gets Kane down and reverses a slam into DDT.  Bryan starts climbing the ladder by Slater starts climbing behind him.  After a small struggle, Slater sends Bryan crashing to the mat with a neck breaker off of the ladder.

Sheamus is back in the ring and is handing out Brogue Kicks to anyone and everyone.  After cleaning house, Sheamus starts climbing the ladder.  A wide angle shot of the ring gives us a great shot of Sheamus climbing.  Just as he’s at the top, Kane is sauntering up the ladder from the bottom of our screen.  Kane and Sheamus struggle back and forth before Kane gains the upper hand and sends Sheamus crashing off of the ladder and onto another ladder with a Chokeslam.

Our next highlight comes seconds later after Kane is eventually sent to mat and Justin Gabriel hits Kane with a 450 splash off of a ladder.   Wade Barrett is next up for his time to shine and starts handing out Wastelands to everyone.  After handing out a Wasteland to 3 separate people, Daniel Bryan is back in the ring and starts climbing the ladder.  Cody Rhodes quickly chases him up the ladder.  Bryan is at the top of the ladder sitting on it.  Wade Barrett begins climbing the opposite side of the ladder.  With Bryan atop the ladder and now Barrett and Rhodes on opposite sides of the ladder, Bryan looks outnumbered.  He quickly out strikes Rhodes and sends him crashing down to the ring.  Barrett seems to gain the upper hand and tosses Bryan on his shoulders for a Wasteland off the top of the ladder.  Bryan quickly regains his balance after a few elbows to Barrett’s face.  A few elbows later and Barrett is sent tumbling to the mat.  Daniel Bryan takes the final step back up the ladder and unlocks the brief case.

Daniel Bryan, a year ago fired for choking Justin Roberts with a tie, is your Smackdown Money in the Bank Champion.  Bryan is shown celebrating and is visibly emotional as the crowd chants his name.  Great moment.

CM Punk winning the belt and being defeated by Daniel Bryan later in the show for the WWE Title quickly crosses everyone’s minds.  That would help ease the sting just a little if Punk really leaves, right?

Incredible match.  Tons of spot and 35 minutes of non-stop action.

We get a shot of the backstage area where Vince McMahon, Johnny Ace, and McMahon’s “lawyer” are entering the arena.  Michael Cole says that the lawyer is there for a last-ditch effort to re-sign CM Punk.

WWE’s attempt to follow up that great match is by giving us Kelly Kelly defending her title against Brie Bella.  Ummmm….piss break!  I’ll care when Kharma comes back.

Kelly retains the belt though without any help from Eve who accompanied her to the ring.  As the Bella’s exit the ring, Nikki repeatedly tells Brie “Look at her Brie…she barely even eats.  How can you not beat that?”

Meanwhile, as Randy Orton would have us believe, at least 10 guys in the locker room all speak up in unison saying, “I beat that.”

We got our first Summerslam promo highlighter by Cee Lo Green’s newest single, “Bright Lights, Bigger City”.  Terrific jam!

Next up is the match Michael Cole just coined the “Battle of the Behemoths” between Big Show and the “let’s see how many times we can push him down the fan’s throats” Mark Henry.  Prior to the match beginning, Mark Henry reminds us once again that “somebody’s gonna get they ass kicked.”  I may sound a little sour on Henry (I probably am since I think he’s been ruined over the last 15 or so years), but his newest heel push has been nicely booked and impressive.  I think we’re headed towards the inevitable Orton/Henry feud and that’s unfortunate.  I don’t think anyone wants to see that.

As the two men begin squaring off, Michael Cole tells us the measurements of both men’s thighs, chest, and shoes.  Ehhhh, ok.  This battle quickly spills out of the ring and right in front of the announcers.  I should mention that the Spanish announce team is ringside.  Let’s see if they’re still there after this match.

They get back in the ring and Henry quickly places a target on Big Show’s left knee.  First is the shoulder tackle to the knee, then some stomps, and other basic leg attacks.  Henry even applies a half Boston crab for a bit.  By the way, is Mark Henry wearing one of MVP’s old singlets?  Show gets out of the crab and changes the tune of the match for a bit.  Big Show climbs the top rope.  Yes, he climbs the top rope and hits a flying shoulder tackle into Henry.  Henry kicks out after 2.  Henry gets back to his feet as Show teases a chokeslam.

Henry avoids it and hits the World’s Strongest Slam.  It looks like it’s over, but Show kicks out.  Henry begins showing a bit of frustration, but picks Show back up and hits him with a second Worlds Strongest Slam.  Before going for the pin, he flattens Show with 2 big splashes.  Henry gets the clean pin in a squash of the Big Show.

After the match is over, Henry goes outside of the ring and gets a steel chair.  Henry wraps the chair around Shows left leg and hits a Vader Bomb on the chair.  For the second time in 2 months, Show is apparently being written off of TV with a leg injury.  He’s screaming in pain and EMT’s are tending to him in the ring.  Show has his leg put in an air cast and is taken out on a medical truck.

We get about 96 replays of the splash.

Vince McMahon is shown in a backstage segment.  He’s showing frustration over not being able to re-sign CM Punk.  Josh Mathews enters and asks McMahon if he has re-signed Punk.  McMahon says no, he offered more money to Punk than he’s offered to anyone, and says Punk is to blame for this deal not getting done.  McMahon ends the interview by saying “if by some chance Punk leaves this arena as WWE champ, may God have mercy on John Cena.”  Nice segment.

It’s now time for the RAW Money in the Bank match.  I don’t think I’ve recovered from trying to keep up with the first one, but here we go!  Your participants in this match – Alberto Del Rio, Rey Mysterio, Kofi Kingston, Jack Swagger, Evan Bourne, R-Truth, Alex Riley, and The Miz.

Awesome moment at the beginning as every man is holding a ladder as the bell rings.  The bells rings and everyone is hitting the nearest person with a ladder.  After all the ladder shots are done, only Miz and Truth are left standing with their ladders.  Swagger quickly takes out the both of them with a bigger ladder.  Bourne and Kingston both start tugging on the same ladder and eventually decide to use it to take out Swagger and R-Truth.  Mysterio bounces off the ropes and springboards himself off of the ladder Bourne and Kofi are holding and hits a hurricanrana that sends Swagger to the outside.

With most of the competitors outside except Mysterio, Kofi, and Bourne, it’s time for some flying.  Both Mysterio and Kofi climb a corner turnbuckle and do simultaneous crossbody’s onto the guys outside.  Just as they’re recovering, Evan Bourne climbs a 15 foot ladder and hits an Air Bourne from the top of the ladder onto the group of people.

Bourne gets back into the ring and starts climbing the ladder.  The Miz quickly chases up the other side.  While Bourne and Miz are battling for the briefcase, Del Rio enters the ring and hits the ladder sending both guys flying to the mat.  Miz immediately grabs his knee and refs and the ringside doctor quickly tend to him.  Miz is led to the back as multiple replays show Miz landing on the knee awkwardly.

The ring now belongs to Mysterio, Kofi, and R-Truth.  Each take turns using the ladder to incapacitate the other.  Cool moments include Kofi hitting the Boom Drop off of the ladder and onto Truth as well as Mysterio hitting the 619 on Truth.

In a signature moment guaranteed to be shown many, many times, 5 ladders were all set up in the center of the ring.  Every member of the match except for The Miz was standing atop the ladders battling back and forth.  One by one, each man fell.  Kofi was the last man standing and seemed to be on his way to victory.  While trying to unlatch the briefcase, Swagger quickly jumped up onto a nearby ladder to remove him.  Both men went crashing to the ring.  While everyone was lying on the ground, the crowd rose to their feet as The Miz hopped down to the ring on his one good leg.

Miz then hopped up the ladder in a moment that I thought for sure was going to show him as the victor.  Mysterio quickly got him off by hitting a powerbomb off of the ladder.  Del Rio got back in the ring as Mysterio climbed for the brief case.  As the guys struggled for the briefcase, Del Rio grabbed Mysterio by the face and threw him off of the ladder.  When he did it, Mysterio’s mask came off.  While Mysterio rolled around the ring covering his face, Del Rio tossed Mysterio’s mask into the crowd.  Del Rio reached up and grabbed the brief case.

Alberto Del Rio is your RAW Money in the Bank winner.  This seemed to be the popular pick to win the match, so it wasn’t much of a surprise.  The Smackdown match was definitely the better of the two in my opinion.

A WrestleMania 28 promo is aired featuring John Cena and The Rock.

Next up is Randy Orton defending the World Championship against Christian.  A video package shows hyping the match.

After the video package, Alberto Del Rio does an interview with Josh Matthews.  Del Rio says that winning Money in the Bank was not his destiny, but rather “a formality”.  His destiny is to win the WWE title.

As the entrances are being made, I should point out what I should have mentioned awhile ago.  Not only is this Chicago crowd HOT, they’re extremely affectionate towards the heel’s.  Aside from Daniel Bryan, they’ve booed all the good guys.  For what it’s worth, as ring introductions are made by Tony Chimel, the crowd seems pretty split for this one.

If Orton is disqualified, counted out, or anything of that nature, Christian wins the belt.  Christian goes outside of the ring as the bells goes off and grabs a chair.  He brings it into the ring and tosses it at the feet at Orton, begging for Orton to hit him and get disqualified.  Orton yells “I’d love to”, but hands the chair to the ref.

As Orton and Christian get going, the crowd seems to be more pro-Christian now.  The crowd are pulling out dueling “Let’s go Orton” “Randy Sucks” chants.  Christian gains the upper hand at the beginning, using heel tactics such as open-handed slaps, chokes, and mounting Orton and punching right up until the 5-count.  Christian has Orton in the corner and runs at him with a splash, but Orton ducks and rolls up Christian for a near-fall.  Orton bounces off the ropes as Christian is getting to his feet but is met with a quick Spinebuster.

Christian goes for the Killswitch, but Orton gets out of it and clotheslines him over the top rope.  Both guys lay on the side while the ref counts to 10.  Both guys make it back into the ring at 8.  Some more back and forth, and Orton catches Christian with a jackknife pin for another near-fall.  These guys have phenomenal chemistry together and I hope they get to work together again in the future.  I can’t imagine the WWE continuing their feud past tonight unless it’s with Christian winning the belt.

Christian and Orton are once again battling in the corner.  Both men climb the ropes with Orton looking for a superplex.  Christian pushes Orton off of the ropes and hits a flying headbutt.  Orton kicks out at 2.  Orton is starting to gain some momentum now and goes for the RKO, but Christian escapes.  Christian hits the Killswitch out of nowhere.  Orton kicks out at the very last second as the crowd is on their feet.  Great match so far.

Christian is frustrated.  Christian is now lining Orton up for a Spear, but Orton hurdles it.  Christian hits the opposite steel post.  Orton then lifts Christian up onto his shoulders via a gutwrench and hits him with a reverse neck breaker.  Christian kicks out at 2.  Orton teases the punt as Christian recovers, but he misses it.  Christian gets to his feet and goes for a clothesline but Orton hits him with the quick slam.  Christian starts recovering and cowers to the corner, asking Orton to let up.  As Orton gets close to him, Christian spits in his face.

Orton goes irate and starts to punch Christian as the ref is counting to 5.  Orton stops but then hits Christian with a blatant low-blow that the ref sees.  The ref calls for the bell and awards Christian the World Heavyweight Championship due to Randy being disqualified.

Orton goes crazy after the match and attacks Christian.  The Spanish announce table finally comes into play as Orton gives Christian an RKO off of the table.

It looks like this feud will now live on into Summerslam.  What type of match will it be then?  Hell in the Cell?  Iron Man?  What could it be?  What’s obvious is that the fans want to see it as they’re chanting “One more match, One more match!”

While they’re chanting, Orton makes his way back towards the ring from the ramp and hits Christian with another RKO onto the announcer table.  Randy looks rather pissed that he’s hit that move twice and the table didn’t break either time.

We now get a lengthy CM Punk/John Cena promo package.  The second Cena was shown, boo’s rained down from the crowd.  When Punk was shown, it was one of the loudest pop’s heard in years.  This crowd is 100% pro-Punk.  “CM PUNK, CM PUNK, CM PUNK” chants are being screamed by the crowd before either man makes their intro.  Punk comes out first to a pop only rivaled by the last time The Rock was on WWE TV.  Punk is sporting his awesome, limited edition “Best in the World” shirt that is being sold at the arena.

I’ve already said it a few times, but I must make it clear.  The reaction that Punk is getting is giving me chills.  It’s a reaction that just isn’t seen in wrestling anymore.  I haven’t seen a reaction like this since that of The Rock or Steve Austin over 10 years ago.  If Vince needs any proof that Punk is money, LISTEN to this crowd reaction.

Cena’s music starts playing and the boo’s are so loud that you literally cannot hear his theme song.  Cena comes out without saluting the crowd are anything.  Cena is full-on heel Cena tonight.

Punk and Cena start off with a little chain wrestling.  Punk controls for the most part, but Cena tosses Punk to the ground and applies a chin lock.  The crowd plagues him with “You Can’t Wrestling” chants.  These chants quickly turn into a “CM PUNK” “Let’s go Cena” dueling chants, with 90% of the crowd chanting the former.  This crowd is INCREDIBLE.

These guys are putting on a wrestling display as Michael Cole brings up the Montreal Screwjob and openly questions whether or not it can happen again tonight.  As this discussion is happening, Cena goes for an Attitude Adjustment out of nowhere, but Punk slides off the back.  Punk goes for the GTS, but Cena slides off the back as well and both guys just stare at each other.  Catch-as-catch-can classic, indeed.

Booker T compares this back-and-forth action to that of a chess match.  Perfect analogy.  It’s not often you see storytelling like this much anymore in the ring.

Oh, and Punk’s good friend Colt Cabana is visibly present right in the front row.

Cena sends Punk to the corner and as Punk bounces off, he meets him with a kick to the groin and a fisherman’s suplex.  He goes for the cover but it’s a 2 count.  Cena gets Punk up and goes for another attitude adjustment, but Punk once again slides off the back and hits Cena with a DDT.  After a 2 count, Punk applies a triangle choke.  Cena stands up and gets out of the move, but Punk tosses Cena to the outside.

A breather well-deserved for both men.

A “Colt Cabana” chant now breaks out in the arena.

Cena is laying underneath the ropes with his head facing the mats outside the ring.  Cena climbs the rope and hits Cena with a knee drop.  Punk gets back in the ring and goes for the cover, but only gets a 2 count.  After Punk misses Cena in the corner, Cena counters and goes for the STFU.  Punk escapes and sends Cena into the ropes with his feet.  Punk bounces up and nails Cena with a clothesline.

Cena gets the upper hand and sends Punk into the corner.  Punk meets a charging Cena with a boot to the face.  Punk springboards off the ropes and botches a cross body attempt onto Cena, landing on Cena’s knee.  It clearly takes the wind out of both guys.  Cena goes to the apron to recover and as Punk comes over to him, Cena quickly gives him a suplex to the outside of the ring.  After a 2 count, Cena lifts Punk and nails another suplex.  He gets another 2 count.  Cena’s knee looks to be slowing him down.

Punk gets up and Cena goes for the AA once again, but Punk slides off the side.  Cena holds onto him and hits him with a modified side slam.  He gets a 2 count.  Punk gets up and the two guys exchange blows as the crowd duels back-and-forth with “Booo” and “Yeeaaah”’s .  Punk gets the upper hand and bounces off the ropes, but Cena locks him in an abdominal stretch.

The guys exchange blows once again and Punk sends Cena to the corner.  He attempts the running knee, but misses.  Cena hits the side slam on Punk and looks ready for the 5-Knuckle Shuffle.  It doesn’t happen though.  Punk gets back to his feet as Cena is outside and Punk flies through the middle and top rope to hit Cena on the outside.  The crowd is going nuts.

They get back in the ring and Punk misses with a cross body once again.  Cena teases the 5-Knuckle Shuffle and nails it.  Cena measures up for the AA once again, but Punk escapes and uses a punch, kick, kick, sweep combo to send Cena to the mat.  Cena gets up and Punk goes for the GTS as the crowd rises, but Cena escapes and hits Punk with a gut wrench powerbomb.

The announcers continue playing up John Cena’s knee injury.

Cena goes for the AA again, but Punk escapes and nails 2 straight jumping knees to Cena’s face followed by a bulldog.  Punk goes for the cover, but Cena kicks out at 2.  Punk continues the kicks to the head and chest of Cena.  Cena finally ducks one of the kicks and locks in the STF in the center of the ring.  Punk claws towards the ropes for about 20 seconds and just when it looks like he’s going to tap, Punk clenches the bottom rope to the delight of the crowd.

Punk catches Cena with a kick to the back of the head out of nowhere.  Only good enough for a 2-count.   Punk climbs the ropes and goes for the cross body, but Cena rolls him over and stands up with Punk ready for the AA.  Punk slides off and goes for the GTS, but Cena counters it into another STFU.  As Punk is near tapping in the center of the ring, Punk counters into the Anaconda Vice.  Cena gets to his feet and hits the AA out of nowhere.

Punk kicks out at 2 3/4ths!!!

This crowd is electric and you are watching the match of the year, hands down.

Punk starts recovering as Cena climbs the ropes.  Cena attempts the top rope leg drop to the back of Punk’s head, but Punk reverses it into a powerbomb.  He goes for the cover, but Cena kicks out at 2.  Punk signals for the GTS.  He lifts Cena for the GTS, but Cena grabs the ropes and escapes.  He sends Punk to the mat with a punch.  Cena climbs the rope and this time successfully hits Punk with the top-rope leg drop.  Punk kicks out at 2 once again.

Cena is now measuring Punk up for the Attitude Adjustment.  Punk stumbles to his feet and Cena hoists him on his shoulders.  Cena nails the AA clean and Punk kicks out of it again!  The crowd is going bananas as Cena begins to show some frustration.  Cole reminds us that this match has been going on over 30 minutes now.

Cena picks up Punk and puts him on the top rope.  Cena is setting up Punk for the top-rope AA.  Punk counters with many elbows to the temple.  Punk gets in front of Cena and hits him with a hurricanrana.  The leverage of the move sends Punk to the opposite turnbuckle.  Punk hits another running knee and then nails Cena with the GTS, but the momentum sends Cena to the mat outside the ring.

Punk goes outside and rolls Cena back into the ring.  As this happens, Mr. McMahon and Johnny Ace make their way half way down the entrance.  Punk notices them and stares.  Punk gets back in the ring.  Cena applies the STFU and Vince starts calling for the bell.  The ref isn’t ringing the bell, so Vince sends Johnny Ace to get the bell rang.  As he’s doing it, Cena gets out of the ring and clotheslines Ace.  Cena says “if he’s gonna win the match, he’s gonna do it fair and square.”

Cena then looks over at Vince and gets back into the ring.  Punk is waiting for him and nails him with a GTS.  He gets the 3 count. Your winner and new champion, CM Punk!

Vince walks to the announce table and gets on the headset and says “get Alberto out here…cash it in. Get him out here right now.”  Del Rio runs to the ring with the brief case.  Punk meets him with a kick to the skull.  Punk then leaves the ring with the WWE title.  He starts to head through the crowd and Vince tries to stop him.  Punk holds the belt high and blows Vince a kiss before leaving through the crowd to a huge ovation.

The credits roll as Vince stands in the ring disgusted and Punk celebrates in the crowd.

WWE Money in the Bank 2011 Preview & Predictions

July 17, 2011 By: Category: WWE | Pro Wrestling

WWE Money in the Bank 2011 Preview & PredictionsWWE Money in the Bank 2011 is finally here and will be live Sunday night from Chicago. Anticipation is high for CM Punk’s final night in the WWE and whether he leaves the company with the WWE championship or will John Cena keep his job and disappoint Punk’s legion of followers?

Other than WrestleMania 27, I can’t remember a pay per view with this much excitement going in. The intrigue of Punk leaving with the WWE title and the number of scenarios possible have had fans buzzing for three weeks about the big event. Well the wait is over, it is finally here, so let’s make some predictions and pick some winners.

CM Punk vs. John Cena for the WWE championship - For those of you that may have been living under a rock the last three weeks, this one has a real interesting story. CM Punk is leaving the WWE. Punk’s contract is up and he signed an extension which will keep him with the company until midnight Sunday night/Monday morning. In other words, if Punk wins he is leaving as champion. Vince McMahon has also deemed that John Cena will be fired if Punk leaves the building as WWE champion. It doesn’t get much better than this!

I actually wrote a real lengthy blog about the CM Punk vs. John Cena scenarios which I would ask you to check out for a more detailed look at the match. However, I am going to look at this from two different points of view. One, I will take a look at the match assuming Punk is really leaving. Two, I will take a look at the match assuming Punk has re-signed in secrecy.

As of this writing Punk is leaving, so let’s go with that. There have been subtle hints all along about the Montreal Screwjob without outright saying it. I think that is where this thing is going.

I think Vince McMahon comes down to ringside early playing off of the Montreal Survivor Series finish. I look for Punk and Cena to have a competitive match for awhile. About 15-20 minutes into the match I think Cena has Punk in the STF and guess what happens next? Vince orders the time keeper to ring the bell and award Cena the match, ala: Montreal Screwjob.

CM Punk Uprising Authentic T-Shirt

But unlike the 1997 Survivor Series, John Cena doesn’t just grab the belt and run to the back (although it would be awesome if he did and set up a heel turn). I think Cena grabs the mic, calls Vince out on his bogus finish, and demands that the match continues. Vince foams at the mouth but eventually whether it be through Vince or the Anonymous G.M., the match restarts.

Ten minutes later Cena comes back from the depths of defeat and miraculously pulls out the win. Cena puts over Punk, Punk shakes his hand, they hug, and Punk leaves as a babyface, while Cena earns the respect of the hostile New York crowd. But wait a second! You don’t screw with the boss, especially if you are Vince McMahon!

I think Vince orders the Money in the Bank winner to the ring, Cena loses, and we have ourselves a new WWE champion after all. This sets up a full-fledged return by Vince McMahon as a lead heel and Cena’s enemy and a new feud for the rest of the summer between Cena and the MITB winner.

Now let’s assume that Punk re-signs in secrecy and stays with the WWE. I see a similar scenario of the competitive match but this time I see interference throughout the match from Luke Gallows and Colt Cabana from the crowd. One of these incidents leads to the finish and we have ourselves a brand new WWE champion. The hometown boy wins the title in Chicago and is taking it home. Not so fast!

Vince McMahon comes out, tells Punk he will never leave with the title, and orders security to escort Gallows and Cabana out of the ring. Just as they leave the SmackDown MITB winner hits the ring to cash in, a quick match later Punk pulls out the win. But it still isn’t over for Punk. The RAW MITB winner hits the ring, cashes in, and Punk…still wins the match! Finally Vince orders Alberto Del Rio to the ring, deems him the number one contender since Alberto won a #1 contender’s match on RAW, and makes the match telling Del Rio it is his only shot before the title leaves the company. Finally we have a new WWE champion in Alberto Del Rio. CM Punk leaves as a huge babyface but will return in a few months with a vengeance!

Randy Orton vs. Christian for the WWE world heavyweight championship with the DQ rule waived - Welcome back to the Christian vs. Orton show. Christian and Orton will do battle for the fourth time, third on pay per view with an added wrinkle at Money in the Bank. The DQ rule will be waived meaning that Orton will lose the title if he is disqualified. This was an old gimmick used regularly back in the N.W.A. during Ric Flair‘s days as champion and has Dusty Rhodes’ finger prints all over it.

I don’t know what more I can say about these guys that I haven’t already said. I love this feud, their matches, and this entire storyline. I wouldn’t have a problem if we saw three more matches in the next two months. Yet at some point something has to give here and either Christian has to go over or you need to move on.

Christian Hit The Switch Authentic T-shirt

I think this is the night. I think this is the night Christian goes over for a number of reasons. One, Punk is not walking out of Chicago with the WWE title. Putting Christian over will be something of a consolation prize to those fans. Two, the SmackDown ratings have been terrible lately and maybe the company takes a shot in the dark here with a new champion. Three, I think the WWE would love to culminate this feud at SummerSlam, so having Orton win again makes little reason for a fifth match at the August event.

I think this one comes down to the disqualification rule. I think something happens where a referee is bumped, Christian brings a chair or the belt in the ring, ref wakes up seeing Orton with the weapon, disqualifies him and awards Christian the title. Regardless of who wins, I expect a great match as usual out of this rivalry on Sunday night.

Rey Mysterio vs. Alberto Del Rio vs. Kofi Kingston vs. Alex Riley vs. R-Truth vs. The Miz vs. Evan Bourne vs. Jack Swagger RAW Money in the Bank Ladder Match - I did a lengthy preview by the odds last week on the blog so I won’t rehash too much of it here. But I think the winner is obvious…almost a little too obvious.

Check out the full Camel Clutch Blog Pro Wrestling and MMA store for videos, t-shirts, books, and more.

Alberto Del Rio is the clear favorite here. There have been reports out for months about a planned Del Rio vs. Cena SummerSlam match and feud. Del Rio is hot right now and is coming off the #1 contender’s win. It just makes sense. Unfortunately when it comes to the WWE, the easy answer is usually the wrong answer.

Going back to the CM Punk vs. John Cena match and looking at the scenario of Punk re-signing, I would have to predict another winner. The winner would also have to be someone who would go out later as a sacrificial lamb to Punk. Del Rio is not that guy. I am going to go with a long shot in that scenario and pick Evan Bourne.

Evan Bourne can come out as the reluctant babyface ordered by Vince McMahon to cash in his Money in the Bank opportunity now. Bourne and Punk can have a real exciting match for a few minutes which ends with Punk winning. Maybe it is me but it appears that they are pushing Bourne a lot harder than usual lately. I think Bourne wins this one…if Punk is staying and my above scenario plays out.

If not I will go with Del Rio for the safe choice. I think this turns out to be a pretty good match but not nearly as exciting as the SmackDown MITB match. Other than Bourne and Rey Mysterio, you don’t have any real daredevils in this one as opposed to the other brand’s match. I would be shocked to see Miz, Riley, Swagger, or Truth take this one. I think Del Rio tosses Bourne off the ladder to win or vice versa if Punk stays and the above scenario plays out.

Daniel Bryan vs. Heath Slater vs. Kane vs. Justin Gabriel vs. Cody Rhodes vs. Sheamus vs. Sin Cara vs. Wade Barrett SmackDown Money in the Bank Ladder Match - Talk about a match that has a ton of potential right here! I did a lengthy preview by the odds last week on the blog so I won’t rehash too much of it here other than a quick rundown.

Sheamus is clearly being positioned as the favorite in this one. Sheamus has probably benefited more than anyone from the 2011 WWE Draft and has found new life on SmackDown as a top heel. A win here would really solidify his comeback and breathe new life into his chase for the title.

Daniel Bryan and Cody Rhodes are two guys that fit the mold of past Money in the Bank winners. In the past, the MITB contract was used to elevate a young guy that was ready to move up to the next level. I think both of these men fit that bill. I lean a little more towards Cody with Bryan being about a year away before getting this kind of push.

As for the match I have huge expectations here. You have a heck of a collection of great athletes and high flyers here. If Sin Cara was ever going to make some noise in the WWE, this is the time to do it. Speaking of which, will this match be in the dark? Anyway, I look for a potential Match of the Year candidate here (sorry Cena), and a win from the Celtic Warrior.

Big Show vs. Mark Henry - I have to admit, I am a little excited about this one. I have to give the WWE a lot of props for their booking here. They took a match on paper that most would have groaned about two months ago and turned it into a match that people are highly interested in watching.

Like Sheamus, Henry is clearly being positioned as the top heel on SmackDown. As a matter of a fact I think that unless Christian wins, Henry is wrestling Randy Orton at SummerSlam for the title. So I would be shocked if Henry doesn’t beat the Big Show here. Not only do I think Henry beats him, I think Henry lays him out when this one is over.

I just hope it’s short.

More WWE Money in the Bank 2011 Predictions

July 16, 2011 By: Category: WWE | Pro Wrestling

CM Punk vs. John CenaJuly 17 is the 2011 edition of the WWE Money In The Bank PPV which is emanating from the great city of Chicago, Illinois, the hometown of CM Punk, who is challenging John Cena for the WWE Championship. Before Punk’s fantastic worked-shoot promo of two weeks ago or so on Raw, I wasn’t really all that interested in this particular PPV.

Honestly, since Edge was forced to retire due to spinal stenosis in April, I have been having a hard time really getting into wrestling much at all. I still watch, and there ARE wrestlers on WWE I enjoy (Christian, Orton, Del Rio, Sheamus, Punk), but it just isn’t the same without Edge, I mean, a lot of my other favorites like HHH, HBK, Y2J, Batista, etc are either retired, semi retired, or on hiatus, so when Edge who is my personal hero besides one of my all time favorites(HBK is my #1 all time favorite), was forced into retirement, I just lost a lot of interest, UNTIL a one CM Punk sat down on the top of that ramp and cut that infamous promo.

I won’t go into the promo as there have been a lot of writers who have already written about it, and the promos that Punk, Vince, and Cena cut on the “go home” Raw this past Monday, so I am going to just make this blog my predictions for the PPV. Since I am already talking about the participants in the WWE Championship Match, I will start with that one.

WWE Championship Match: John Cena (C) vs CM Punk. (Stips: If Punk wins and walks out champion, John Cena is fired): The back story is that after CM Punk cut that promo burying the company , including Stephanie, and HHH, and such, Punk got suspended. The following week, on the July 4th Raw, Cena calls out Vince McMahon who will appear at the end of the show. Later ,they have a number one contendership match which Alberto Del Rio wins. However, that win appears to be null and void when John Cena gets Vince McMahon to reinstate Punk after lecturing Vince about the First Amendment, etc. Vince reinstates Punk and puts in the match stipulation where if Punk wins and leaves as WWE Champion, Cena is fired.

Prediction:The finish of this match with all the possible scenarios has been analyzed to death, it seems. I think this will be a pretty good match. I don’t see Cena being fired, and I do not see Punk walking out the champ either. Terri’s Pick: Punk wins match by DQ, but Cena keeps WWE Title as Title can not change hands on a DQ.

WWE World Heavyweight Championship: Randy Orton (C) vs Christian (Stip: If Randy Orton gets DQ’d or if the referee makes a mistake, Orton loses, and Christian becomes the new champion: The back story is that Christian has been angry and frustrated, thus the heel turn, because after seventeen years in the wrestling business, he finally becomes the World Champion at Extreme Rules 2011, only to lose the belt in 5 days to Randy Orton.

Christian blames the fans for voting for Orton to be his challenger. Christian blames Smack Down GM Teddy Long for creating the match. Over the last couple of months, Christian and Randy Orton have feuded over the belt, and Orton has won, but in Christian’s mind, he feels that the refs, and Teddy Long are against him. In their last PPV meeting, Capitol Punishment, the referee didn’t catch that Christian’s leg was underneath the rope when the referee counted 123 and declared Orton the winner, thus the stipulation. Orton is fed up with Christian getting chance after chance at his title. However, Orton must hold his temper and not get DQ’d, or he loses his belt as well.

Prediction: This has been an awesome feud. It is one of the most interesting things on BOTH Raw AND Smack Down. Both men are doing very good jobs, especially Christian. It will be interesting to see what Christian can do to get Orton to get himself DQ’d. I wonder if Christian will have his “lawyers” at ringside watching the refs to make sure they are calling the match down the middle. This match should be one of the best worked matches on the show, along with the MITB matches.
Terri’s Pick: Randy Orton finds a way to retain his title.

Check out the full Camel Clutch Blog Pro Wrestling and MMA store for videos, t-shirts, books, and more.

The Big Show vs Mark Henry: The back story of this match is pretty simple. The Big Show was out with a leg “injury” due to Alberto Del Rio’s ring announcer Ricardo Rodriquez’ driving the car into his (Show’s) leg. The Big Show returns and destroys just about everyone in sight, including Rodriquez on Raw, and put Mark Henry in a stretcher on Smack Down. Mark Henry then becomes this huge monster, and over the past few weeks has been attacking both Kane AND the Big Show. Smack Down GM Teddy Long made this match.

Prediction: This is what, the 100,000,000th push that Mark Henry has had with WWE? I mean, he was in the Nation of Domination. He was Sexual Chocolate, and “fathered” a hand with Mae Young? However, this time, they may have something. He is a real nasty brute of a man. I am enjoying this version of Mark Henry. Big Show may be looking for revenge, but Henry needs the win more . Terri’s Pick:Mark Henry

Diva’s Title: Kelly Kelly (C) vs Brie Bella: The Back story is that Brie Bella wants her Diva Title back from Kelly Kelly. Kelly Kelly won the title from Brie when Kelly was selected by the fans on that Power to the People Edition of Raw.

Prediction: I am sure Bella Twin Magic is going to come into play to try to get the belt back on Brie, but I don’t think it will work. Terri’s Pick: Kelly Kelly retains.

Money in the Bank Ladder Match (RAW) Alberto Del Rio vs The Miz vs Alex Riley vs Rey Mysterio vs Kofi Kingston vs Evan Bourne vs Jack Swagger vs R Truth:
No back story here as the winner of this match who climbs the ladder and gets the briefcase is the winner and has a year to “cash in” the briefcase for whatever title they choose on either brand.

Prediction: This should be a very well worked match given these participants. I expect many exciting spots provided by Mysterio, Kingston, Bourne, and Truth in particular. Since he didn’t get to use his number one contendership that he won on Raw, I suspect Del Rio should be the winner. Terri’s Pick: Alberto Del Rio

Money In The Bank Ladder Match (Smack Down) Sheamus vs Cody Rhodes vs Wade Barrett vs Justin Gabriel vs Heath Slater vs Kane vs Sin Cara vs Daniel Bryan
No back story here as well. Like with the Raw MITB Ladder Match, whoever climbs the ladder first and gets the briefcase is the winner, etc.

Prediction: This is another match that should be a pretty good match. I could see Bryan and Gabriel , and Rhodes putting on a good show. Sheamus seems the likely winner.
Terri’s Pick: Sheamus

That is my prediction blog. I hope you all enjoy the PPV. I will be watching it with friends.

Full 2011 WWE Money in the Bank card…
John Cena vs. CM Punk for the WWE championship
Randy Orton vs. Christian for the WWE world heavyweight championship (DQ rule waived)

Daniel Bryan vs. Heath Slater vs. Kane vs. Justin Gabriel vs. Cody Rhodes vs. Sheamus vs. Sin Cara vs. Wade Barrett SmackDown Money in the Bank Ladder Match

WWE Friday Night SmackDown Results – Sheamus Screwed Again

July 08, 2011 By: Category: WWE | Pro Wrestling

Randy Orton vs. SheamusWelcome back for the July 8th edition of my WWE Friday Night SmackDown! recap. This is my third week with Camel Clutch Blog, and so far, I’m really enjoying myself. I want to thank everyone for reading and leaving feedback. Keep it coming.

The #1 contender spot for the World Championship is still in the air, as the “Irish Warrior” Sheamus laid waste to both Randy Orton and Christian last week before ripping up the contract. That’s my boy.

If I ever meet Billy Joe Armstrong in person, I think I will have to hurt him. Oh, and on a side note, has anyone else noticed that Brodus Clay is featured in the opening video for this show, yet has not been seen since Alberto Del Rio was drafted to RAW? We are in Tuscon, AZ tonight, and 7 of the 8 SD! WWE Money In The Bank contestants are in the ring (all but Sheamus) with Josh Mathews. Apparently, Josh is going to interview each competitor one at a time, so I’ll keep this part brief. Daniel Bryan says the match will be worth all the risks before Cody Rhodes cuts him off and drones on, calling himself an exceptional person. You know, the WWE could have attempted to make him look disfigured with some make-up, or at least given him a mask that actually fits. Wade Barrett says he’s sick of hearing what everyone is going to do, and that their achievements pale in comparison to his. He’s right. Before he can finish, Sheamus runs out with a chair and destroys everyone but Sin Cara, who smartly dives out of the ring. Sheamus gets a mic and tells everyone that he will win the contract and cash in the same night after Randy Orton beats Christian. He says he’s coming for Orton tonight, and he’ll hit him so hard he’ll knock the voices out of Orton’s head. Good line. We then see what happened last month when Orton punted Sheamus, which is the cause of all of this. Sheamus says Orton’s biggest career regret is not kicking Sheamus in the head hard enough, because now he’s back.

Christian‘s terrible music hits, and he’s got a mic in hand. Christian complains about how Sheamus is like everyone else in that he thinks Christian can’t be Orton. Christian reminds everyone that he was the guy that beat Sheamus the night Sheamus got punted. We learn that Christian’s legal team added another clause into the WWE Money in the Bank 2011 contract that states that if Orton is disqualified or counted out, Christian wins the belt.

Now we get Teddy Long out, who makes a main event between Sheamus and Randy Orton. A 5-star classic is up later as Kane will face Mark Henry. Shoe betcha.

Geez. Over 15 minutes of promos to start the show and then it’s commercial time. Am I watching Impact again? In all seriousness though, Sheamus’ promo was pretty good. Barrett’s started off good before Sheamus dropped him.

MATCH #1: Little Monsters (Fred Savage and Howie Mandel) vs. Daniel Bryan and Intercontinental Champion Ezekiel Jackson
I could be wrong, but I believe Zeke is carrying around a replica belt. The strap seems a hell of a lot shorter than normal. Plus, it’s still missing a nameplate. They did that same thing to Wade Barrett for a bit, too. Bryan and DiBiase are starting the match. They trade a couple of kicks before Bryan gets the first nearfall. Bryan tags in Zeke who punches, clubs and throws DiBiase around the ring and to the outside. While talking about his “Fave 5″, Booker T mentions that Zack Ryder is one of those elite five. God bless him. Bryan dives out onto the team formerly known as Priceless on the outside before we take a commercial break.

We’re back with Bryan kicking the crap out of Rhodes, who counters with an Alabama slam out of the corner for 2. DiBiase’s in now, and hits a few kicks, a short backbreaker and a dropkick for his own nearfall. Chinlock time now by DiBiase. Rhodes is back in, and he really needs to stop acting like such a spaz with every move. After a few kicks, DiBiase’s back in, and back to a chinlock. DiBiase eats a corner elbow, kick and leg lariat from Bryan, who finally gets the tag to Zeke. Zeke unloads with several clotheslines and some bodyslams for both DiBiase and Rhodes. He looks for the Argentinean backbreaker, but Rhodes gets in a Beautiful Disaster kick and a kick to the back of the knee. DiBiase locks in Dream Street on Zeke, and this one’s over.

WINNERS: DiBiase and Rhodes. Zeke’s push has screeched to a halt faster than it started.

We get a video package of Mark Henry’actions as of late yet again, which leads to an interview with Ken Doll. He says Henry’s looking at serious legal troubles aside from his match tonight and his match with the Big Show at the PPV. Mark Henry just scares Ken off by staring at him. Best promo of Mark Henry’s career.

MATCH #2: Jinder Mahal (w/The Great Khali) vs. Trent Barretta
Considering Barretta got no entrance, I’m picking him to win. Yep. Oh, don’t tell me Khali is going to sit in on commentary? Dammit. Mahal gets a few punches in before launching Barretta into the turnbuckle facefirst. Mahal gets a clothesline and a jumping knee before hitting the full-nelson slam and the pinfall.

WINNER: Jinder Mahal. Squash in every sense of the word. After the match, Khali gets Trent up for another full-nelson slam by Mahal. Poor Trent Barretta. The guy is really talented, yet most fans haven’t gotten to see that.

Backstage, and Todd Grisham is with Sheamus. He asks Sheamus about all of his anger lately. Sheamus responds with, “It’s an Irish thing. You wouldn’t understand.”

Contrary to popular belief, Just For Men hair dye does not mean you will get laid. You’re still a yuppie tool with or without the grey hair. Just saying.

MATCH #3: Tamina (w/Alicia Fox) vs. A.J. (w/Natalya)
Looking at Alicia Fox makes me want to throw up. Booker T compliments A.J. on her Chuck Taylor wrestling shoes. I’m inclined to agree. Tamina throws A.J. into the corner, who comes back with a boot and some forearms. She eats an elbow from Tamina, who then whips her into the corner followed by the butt thrust. A hair whip gets 2. Tamina with a modified camel clutch (not for humbling purposes this time). Tamina misses a splash off the ropes, giving A.J. a chance to hit a spinning back kick and a modified shining wizard for 2. Avalanche in the corner by A.J. Tamina misses one of her own, and A.J. rolls her up for the 3-count.

WINNER: A.J. Okay, so we finally get a divas match between two women who can actually work, and it lasts less than five minutes. Alicia Fox is now getting on Tamina’s case, as if she could intimidate so much as a toddler.

A hardcore fan’s dream match is up next as we’ll (FINALLY) get Kane and Mark Henry one-on-one.

MATCH #4: Kane vs. Mark Henry
If Kane somehow wins MITB again this year, I may have to quit watching this show. I don’t see it happening, but I didn’t see it happening last year either, and we all know how that turned out. Supposedly, the SD! technicians were considering not coming to the show for fear of Mark Henry. Darn the luck. Anyway, Henry starts off with a clothesline and some punches. Kane gets a dropkick to the knee and face before hitting his worst seated dropkick yet for 2. Up top for the DC-10, which Henry catches into a standing belly-to-belly for 2. Typical big man offense at this point, with Kane catching several uppercuts. Henry misses an avalanche and Kane connects with a corner clothesline and a boot for another 2. Kane’s trying for the DC-10 again, and it connects, which of course leads to the chokeslam set-up. Henry breaks out with a headbutt, and goes for the World’s Strongest Slam. Kane escapes, hits the chokeslam, and gets 2 as Henry was too close to the ropes and got a foot up. Kane boots Henry to the outside and begins to tear the announcer’s table apart. The ref is still continuing the count. Henry breaks out of another chokeslam attempt and rams Kane into the apron and the post back-first. Back in the ring and Henry connects with a Warrior Splash for 2. A World’s Strongest Slam later, and it’s over.

Check out the full Camel Clutch Blog Pro Wrestling and MMA store for videos, t-shirts, books, and more.

WINNER: Mark Henry. Typical big man match in every way. If you’ve seen these two wrestle once, you’ve seen them do it a thousand times. With the way Henry is being pushed, he would look incredibly weak losing to Big Show at the PPV. That being said, he probably will lose. Henry starts getting in Booker T’s face after the match for some reason, before spilling a bottle of water all over the floor. Seriously.

In the back with Grisham and Randy Orton, who looks like he has received a new belt. Orton says the match at the PPV will be nothing more than an RKO and a pin. He says some of us have rocks in our head, and some of us hear voices, and that if Grisham sees Sheamus, tell him I said “good luck”. Terrible promo.

Just got my copy of Wrestling’s Greatest Cage Matches of All Time DVD in the mail today. Expect a review some time in the next week.

MATCH #5 Tyson Kidd vs. Sin Cara
Wow, we get a Tyson Kidd match on SD!? When was the last time that happened? Mathews and Booker T have both picked Sin Cara to win MITB this year. I don’t bet on it happening. Not yet, anyway. Kidd with a hammerlock to start the match, but Cara gets out with a rolling snapmare. A flipping arm drag and a head scissors into an arm drag gets Kidd to the outside. Kidd trips up Cara and goes for a running dive, But Cara gets a kick up and a corkscrew plancha into the ring for 2. Kid with a running dropkick for 2 of his own. Kidd’s trying to slow the match down with a chinlock. Goes for a bodyslam, but Cara gets on his shoulders. Cara tries a body scissors, but Kidd drops him into a hotshot. Kidd goes for the springboard elbow, but Cara gets his knees up, followed by some kicks and a tackle with punches. Handspring back elbow and a hurricanrana by Cara. He gets up on Kidd’s shoulders for a victory roll, but flips into a sunset flip for 2. Cool move. Kidd’s up top, but Cara knocks him down. Cara hits his version of the Spanish Fly, and gets the 3-count.

WINNER: Sin Cara. Good match, albeit on the short side. Why Tyson Kidd is not being used more is completely beyond me.

We see Teddy Long strutting around in the back. Ken Doll asks him what he’s going to do about Mark Henry. He gives what Ken calls a politically correct answer. He asks if Long is intimidated by Mark Henry. Long stares off for a second, then keeps walking.

MATCH #6: Soft-CORRE (Justin Gabriel and Heath Slater) vs. The Usos (Jimmy and Jey)
This is basically a rubber match. Gabriel and Slater won last week with the Usos winning the week before. We get the long Uso Polynesian war dance entrance again. I understand the point, but that doesn’t mean they need to do it every match. Gabriel and Jey start with Jey getting a takedown. Slater gets a blind tag and a clothesline on Jey. Slater gets some kicks and whatnot in before tagging the talent of the team back in. Gabriel with a ¾ nelson on Jey. Jey breaks out, and they simultaneously kick each other in the face. Slater and Jimmy both get tagged in. He gets some punches and forearms in before a kick to the stomach and a full-nelson bomb. He hits the lifting Samoan drop for 2. Goes for an avalanche, but Slater gets a hangman’s neckbreaker out of the corner in and tags in Gabriel. Slater gets kicked into the ropes while Gabriel’s on the top rope, crotching him. Jimmy tags in Jey. Jimmy gets up on one corner while Jey is on the adjacent one. Jimmy takes Gabriel down with a Superplex and Jey hits the Samoan splash to get the 3. Haven’t seen Power & Glory’s “Powerplex” move in several years.

WINNERS: The Usos. Again, not a bad match, but far too short. Gabriel and Slater start arguing in the ring post-match.

Up next, we get a recap of the John Cena/Vince McMahon confrontation on RAW. As much as I hate to admit this, both of Cena’s promos were pretty damn good on Monday. It’s amazing what the man can do when he’s not focused on infantile gay and poop jokes. That being said, the stipulation of Cena being fired if he loses completely killed any chance this match has at having a surprise outcome.

Another random Johnny Curtis promo. The guy has no charisma. He tells us when he makes his debut, he’s going to do this (cue to an old man sitting in front of a birthday cake)-”I’m going to take the cake. Haha.” I guess his gimmick is that he lives clichés?

Now, as the video from Monday night plays, time for your humble host to take a bathroom break.

The Smackdown! MITB match looks to be the superior of the two this year. Main event time.

MATCH #7: World Champion Randy Orton vs. Sheamus (non-title)
Orton definitely has a new belt. The plates are thicker and less yellow. After both men have made their entrance, “Captain Charisma” makes his way down to the ring for some color dysentery (RIP Hawk). Lock-up to start, and of course Orton gets in the first offense with kicks and punches. Sheamus returns the favor, though. Orton gets a dropkick which sends Sheamus into the corner. He sets up for the punt, but Sheamus rolls out. Orton hits the most homoerotic Thesz Press in history before both men end up outside. Orton’s still on offense, but Sheamus reverses a whip into the barricade. Back, and Orton tries for the elevated DDT he stole from Jerry Lynn. Sheamus counters and throws Orton into the ring post. Christian gets up from the table to “check” on Orton, but Sheamus steps in. Orton’s favoring his shoulder (at least until he’s back on offense) as Sheamus throws him into the post again. Commercial.

Back from the break, and Sheamus is working over Orton’s shoulder. He gets an armbar takedown followed by a modified key lock. He goes for another armbar takedown, but Orton holds onto the ropes. Sheamus gets a hotshot on Orton’s arm, but misses the slingshot shoulder tackle. Orton with some clotheslines and a powerslam, and he’s still selling the shoulder, surprisingly. Orton gets a belly-to-belly for 2. Sheamus is in the corner and gets some short boots to Orton’s face and shoulder. He backflips up onto the top rope and gets a flying shoulder tackle for 2. Orton goes for a clothesline, but Sheamus reverses into the Irish Curse for another 2, followed by an Irish Hammer and some knee drops. Booker just used the word “mollywhopped”. Can’t recall the last time I heard that. Sheamus appears to be setting up for the Brogue Kick, but misses. Orton tries for the RKO, but Sheamus throws him off. Orton connects with the 3.0 and looks to be setting up for the RKO again, but Christian runs in to cause the DQ.

WINNER: Randy Orton. Christian begins punching Orton, but turns around into a Brogue Kick by Sheamus, who turns around into-surprise-an RKO by Orton (whose shoulder appears to be just fine now). God, I hate him.

End of show.

Not a great outing this week. The Cara/Kidd Match and the Usos/Gabriel & Slater match were decent, but far too short. The main event could have been good, but was ruined by a cheap finish resulting in yet another Orton victory.

WWE Friday Night SmackDown Results – Sheamus Attacks Orton & Christian

July 02, 2011 By: Category: WWE | Pro Wrestling

Sheamus interrupts Randy Orton and Christian contract signingHello, everyone, and welcome to the WWE Smackdown! recap for July 1st. Before I get too far, I’d like to discuss CM Punk for just a moment. After all, everyone else has weighed in on the subject, so I thought I deserved a chance as well (don’t worry; I’ll keep it short).

Basically, Punk’s promo on RAW last Monday was about the best promo in the last ten years, and just more proof how valuable an asset Punk is to any wrestling company. Furthermore, due to his value, it makes me sick that Vince McMahon is not fighting harder to keep Punk under contract. CM Punk is quite possibly the most all-around valuable wrestler in the WWE right now, and he’s leaving in just a couple of weeks.

Anyway, onto to current matters with this week’s recap. We learn that Randy Orton will be in the main event against Mark Henry. Whoopy. Cut to the locker room, and Teddy Long is texting. Christian enters the room with his Money In The Bank contract, and he wants to make the contract signing official in the ring. Long tells Christian that he needed to win the tag team match last week in order to be #1 contender, but it was actually Mark Henry who got the deciding fall in said match. So, Christian is no longer in the title match? Furthermore, he states that if Henry beats Orton tonight, it might be a triple threat match at the PPV or a one-on-one match with just Henry and Orton. Yeah, that’ll sell some PPVs. He then bans Christian from ringside during the main event tonight.

Apparently, main event=curtain jerker tonight, as Orton will be taking on Henry now.

MATCH #1: World Champion Randy Orton vs. Mark Henry (non-title)
Orton tries to lock up, but Henry picks him up and throws him in the corner. Orton no-sells and goes to punches, but eats a knee in the stomach. A pair of corner whips by Henry, followed by a standing belly-to-belly suplex for 2. Henry goes for a powerslam, but Orton slides out, only to turn around into a boot for another 2. Henry has been in control the entire match, so it’s only a matter of time before Orton no-sells everything he’s taken. Henry looks to be setting up for the World’s Strongest Slam. He gets Orton up, but Orton slides out and relies on punches and kicks. A short DDT gets 2, and Orton’s bleeding from the nose. Both guys outside now, and Henry rams Orton’s back into the apron. Big Show‘s music hits, distracting Henry while the referee is still counting. Orton hits an RKO on the outside and slides back in to beat the 10-count.

Winner: Randy Orton via count-out. Incredibly cheap finish to that match. I’m actually happy to see Mark Henry no-selling the RKO.

Henry’s over in the sound area now, yelling at all of the technicians and throwing boxes around. He’s now yelling at the sound guy and destroying equipment. You know, I’m no Mark Henry fan, but I feel for the guy. In 15 years with WWF/E, he’s won two titles, both of which are defunct now, and that’s it. Oh, he just tossed the sound guy approximately 15 feet onto a hidden crash pad.

July 4 RAW will feature a #1 contender’s match for the WWE title between R-Truth, Alberto Del Rio and Rey Mysterio due to CM Punk’s suspension. There’s only one problem I see with this match, and it’s not Truth or Del Rio.

MATCH #2: Daniel Bryan vs. Ted DiBiase
Thanks to Mark Henry, we have no entrance music. Josh tells us we have no audio thanks to Mark Henry destroying the equipment. Makes sense, except we can still hear the commentators and announcers. Bryan with a Japanese arm drag into an arm ringer. DiBiase tries a leap frog, but Bryan catches his leg and turns it into a surfboard stretch, then turns that into a backslide for 2. DiBiase reverses a corner charge and Bryan in turn misses a top rope move. DiBiase lands a dropkick as we go to commercial.

Back from the break, and Mr. Charisma Vacuum is still in control on Bryan. Series of reversals leads to DiBiase’s reverse-direction clothesline for another 2. Bryan did the Rikishi spin off the clothesline, BTW. DiBiase’s back to a chinlock now, clearly showing all he learned from Randy Orton in Legacy. DiBiase’s stomping Bryan in the corner, but Bryan backflips out of a corner whip and lands a nice running clothesline. Vicious corner dropkick by Bryan gets another 2, and now Bryan is just laying in kicks. DiBiase counters one into a roll-up, but Bryan counters that into a LeBell Lock attempt but is too close to the ropes. Bryan backdrops DiBiase out of the ring and goes for the running knee off the apron, but DiBiase catches him and runs him into the post and barrier. Bryan’s holding his shoulder now. Back in the ring, DiBiase gets another 2. DiBiase’s now yelling “You’re nothing!” at Bryan while slapping him in the face. Up top for a superplex attempt, but Bryan blocks it and hits the seated missile dropkick. Both back up, and Bryan just slaps and kicks the hell out of DiBiase for another 2. Ted DiBiase tries for Dream Street, but Bryan rolls out. DiBiase tries the reverse direction clothesline again, but Bryan ducks and locks in a front chancery. DiBiase taps.

WINNER: Daniel Bryan. Really good match, and I like how the finish showed that Bryan has more than one submission hold he can finish someone with. Each time these two wrestle, they fail to disappoint.

I like how Michael Cole keeps calling people nerds. Every nerd I know could beat the holy hell out of Michael Cole.

Back in Long’s office, and he’s telling Christian that Christian was seen coming out of the production truck when Big Show’s music hit earlier. He says the contract signing will still take place tonight, so I guess Christian still is the #1 contender. Long tells Christian he’ll be wrestling Sin Cara tonight before the contract signing takes place.

So glad I’m not dealing with “Limited Commercial Interruptions” presented by 5-Hour Energy tonight.

Backstage, The Phantom of the WWE is laying into Ted DiBiase, and tells him he hasn’t won a match since May. He then uses a few $10 words and tells DiBiase he might as well be wearing one of the paper bags. As riveting as it sounded.

We get a recap of how The Sub-Par Khali and Jinder Mahal got together. Basically, Khali sucks and Mahal is trying to make him suck less.

We get an interview with Khali’s brother, Ranjin Singh, and he says that his and Mahal’s families were close prior to the WWE, and that Jinder Mahal is jealous of Great Khali because Khali’s a big star in India. We also learn that Mahal is also the brother-in-law of the Khali/Singhs. He says that Mahal is telling Khali that Khali will listen to him, or he’ll divorce Khali’s sister. Singh tells us we need to fear Jinder Mahal. Okay, so it added a little to the back story of Khali and Mahal but unfortunately, it’s a back story no one was interested in. You know, Pepper, you can’t polish a turd.

Up next, Sin Cara vs. Christian.

MATCH #3: Christian vs. Sin Cara
I guess the audio got fixed, as Christian has his godawful music playing. He really needs to go back to “At Last”. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, check out the WWE Anthology CD. This music is too wuss-tastic for the top heel on the brand. I’m expecting Sin Cara to win by DQ here. We learn that the Smackdown! MITB match at the PPV will be Kane, Sin Cara, Daniel Bryan, Wade Barrett, Cody Rhodes, Justin Gabriel, Heath Slater and Sheamus. This PPV is actually shaping up nicely, although I could do without Kane and Rhodes in the match. I’m picking Barrett to win. Match starts with Cara landing a few kicks and a leaping armdrag that sends Christian to the outside. I like Sin Cara, but I don’t blame the other wrestlers for being pissed about his special lighting. Even Christian audibly yells “I can’t see with these lights!” Commercial.

Check out the full Camel Clutch Blog Pro Wrestling and MMA store for videos, t-shirts, books, and more.

Back, and of course Christian is in control. Knees and forearms by Captain Charisma, but Cara answers with a dropkick to the outside and a corkscrew plancha. Another corkscrew back into the ring gets 2. Christian’s back up and gets 2 off a shoulderblock. Sin Cara gets a twisting arm drag off the top rope, followed by a hurricanrana for another 2. Cara charges, but Christian back drops him to the outside. Back in the ring and Christian is in control with a chinlock. Cara gets a short headscissors off, but eats a dropkick out of the corner for another nearfall. Christian’s up top for the Bowflex, but he eats canvas. Sin Cara gets a handspring elbow off, and goes for the satellite armbar (which he sort of messed up), but only gets 2. He gets up on Christian’s shoulders and a victory roll gets another 2. Christian goes back up again, but eats a kick from Sin Cara. Looks like he’s going for the Spanish Fly. Christian pushes him off, but Sin Cara rolls through and is back on his feet. He lands another hurricanrana on the outside. Another kick, and a springboard cross-body for another nearfall. Good match so far. Another victory roll attempt, but Christian turns it into a falling inverted DDT for yet another 2. A small package by Sin Cara gets yet another 2. He goes for the springboard elbow, but Christian catches him into the Killswitch. Cara breaks out and goes to the turnbuckle, but is tripped up. Christian hits the spear, and this one’s over.

WINNER: Christian. Sin Cara is no longer undefeated. Really good showing by both guys, and more proof that Christian should still be world champion.

Ooh! 2 contract signing segments on two different shows in a week? I think I just caught the vapors.

We get a recap of Ezekiel Jackson winning the IC title, and he’ll be facing Cody Rhodes next.

MATCH #4: Cody Rhodes (w/Ted DiBiase) vs. WWE Intercontinental Champion Ezekiel Jackson (non-title)
Rhodes’ bag boys are out again this week. Is it just me, or does Rhodes’ music sound like it was recorded in the 80′s and just never used? Oh, and for whatever reason, much like Wade Barrett, they have yet to make a nameplate for the IC title for Zeke.

Rhodes with a punch, but Zeke throws him with one hand into the ropes, followed by a shoulderblock. Punches in the corner, and Zeke just launches the kid from The Wizard. Zeke gets 2 off some elbows to the back. Gorilla press attempt, but Rhodes sneaks outside. Distraction by DiBiase leads to Rhodes throwing Zeke into the post for his first 2. Josh is now explaining how a half-nelson works to Michael Cole. Rhodes is channeling the Iron Sheik now with a modified camel clutch. He really needs to use the calf machines when he’s in the gym. Just saying. Suplex attempt, but Zeke reverses it into a release gourdbuster. A pair of clothesline followed by a corner clothesline and a bodyslam. DiBiase tries to get involved, but gets thrown into the corner. Rhodes uses this to hit the Beautiful Disaster and the Cross Rhodes, and Zeke’s push is over.

WINNER: Boy Meets World. If Randy Orton is the king of no-selling other wrestlers’ moves, Rhodes is the king of over-selling his own moves.

Another segment with Johnny Curtis. He’s pretending to paint. He says there’s no more shenanigans because he wants to avoid painting himself into a corner. As you can probably guess, the canvas has a painting of a stick figure in one corner. Ha! I get it. Hilarious. But not really.

Cole’s pissing and moaning about CM Punk’s comments from last Monday, despite sucking up to him for months now. We learn that Vince McMahon will be on RAW on Monday to discuss the situation.

MATCH #5: Kane vs. Wade Barrett
If Barrett’s not WWE or World Champion by this time next year, I will be disappointed. Josh Mathews reminds us that Kane won MITB last year. Barrett and Kane trade right hands. Shoulderblock by Kane gets 2. Arm wringer by Kane, but Barrett reverses and lands a clothesline for 2. Barrett eats a boot of an Irish whip attempt, but rolls out before Kane can land his crappy seated dropkick. Barrett boots Kane, which sends him to the ringside barrier before we go to commercial (not brought to you by 5-Hour Energy).

Back now, and Barrett lands a mule kick and another boot for 2. A series of kicks to Kane’s ribs followed by yet another boot to the head by Barrett. Barrett’s got Kane in the ropes, and lands a few knee shots and a forearm for a 1-count. Kane hits an uppercut and tries for a whip, but Barrett hits the DDT for another 2. Barrett misses a second rope elbow, and Kane’s doing what he does best-punching. Kane actually hits a cross-body for another two, followed by his crappy dropkick and another 2. Boot by Kane for another 2, corner clothesline and sidewalk slam for a nearfall. Kane’s up top for his non-flying flying clothesline, which connects, leading to the chokeslam set-up. Barrett’s not having it, and reverses a tombstone attempt into a scrapbuster for 2. Barrett goes for Wasteland, but Kane grabs the ropes to the outside. Barrett misses the boot, chokeslam, and the 3.

WINNER: Kane. Kane sucks. He just sucks. I’m talking Ricky Schroeder-level suck.

Up next is the contract signing. Contract signing=REAL main event. I just peed a little.

I need to get The Greatest Cage Matches of All Time DVD as well.

Sigh. You know, I already recapped one contract signing this week, so don’t expect much here. Christian comes out with a lawyer (aka local indy wrestler or actor). They sit at the black table to sign the papers. Christian points out a clause in the contract that if there’s a questionable finish to the match that sees him get screwed, he gets an automatic rematch. Christian says Orton can’t beat him, and I hope that, come PPV time, he’s right. Orton’s now talking, and this is better than No-Doze. I bet Orton sweats tryptophan. As Christian struggles with the pen, my boy Sheamus comes in out of nowhere to kick the hell out of Orton. Christian tries to get in his face, but eats a Brogue Kick, as does Orton. Sheamus rips up the contract and walks off. End of show.

This week was certainly better than last week. Bryan/DiBiase and Christian/Sin Cara were both quite good, but the rest of the show was pretty blah. Although seeing Orton get his head kicked off by Sheamus was particularly enjoyable.
