It’s that time of the year again where I begin to look at the WrestleMania 29 card months in advance and give my predictions on how the show could look on April 7th, 2013 in MetLife Stadium. Unlike last year, there are no official matches set yet for the “Super Bowl of Wrestling” but there is certainly the beginning of “WrestleMania match rumors” on various “dirt-sheets” across the wonderful world of the internet. With that being said let’s take a look at my early Wrestlemania 29 predictions as of December 2012:
CM Punk vs. The Undertaker
If CM Punk is still be WWE Champion come ‘Mania, a match versus The Undertaker with “the streak” on the line would be very intriguing to watch. Something tells me that Punk could be the guy that finally ends The Undertaker’s WrestleMania streak should this match happen.
The Rock (c) vs. John Cena (For the WWE Championship)
It won’t have the year long build their match for WrestleMania 28 had, but I believe a rematch between Rock & John Cena has a very huge possibility of happening. At one time or another the rumor was that the WWE wanted to do a series of matches between the two and that it could stretch over consecutive WrestleMania’s. That appears to be the case as I could see The Rock winning the WWE Championship at the 2013 Royal Rumble over CM Punk and Cena winning the actual Rumble match. Don’t be surprised if the 2013 Royal Rumble goes off the air with a stare down between these two.
Brock Lesnar vs. Triple H
I think this is one of those matches that is basically a “un-official WrestleMania match” being that everything is set up storyline wise for a rematch between these two and it wouldn’t shock us if the build for a WrestleMania match takes place relatively soon. Say what you will but these two guys had a pretty good match at the 2012 SummerSlam PPV and have a pretty decent storyline to help carry them into WrestleMania 29. This match certainly has the name value that WrestleMania matches often desire and I’d love to see these two have a rematch in East Rutherford, New Jersey come this April.
Randy Orton vs. Sheamus (c) (For the World Heavyweight Championship)
It’s starting to look like the time is upon us once again for a Randy Orton heel turn to take place. Orton is a much better heel then he is a face and he could really use the heel turn to reboot him in the eyes of the WWE audience as he hasn’t been that much of a focal point in 2012. Sheamus has become the “new John Cena” in the WWE as he is very marketable amongst the younger audience and is a really good babyface on WWE television. Orton was a great heel when he would feud with Cena and helped make him into a more beloved babyface, it would not surprise me if he could find that magic with Sheamus as a top fan favorite.
Chris Jericho vs. Dolph Ziggler or Chris Jericho vs. Daniel Bryan
Interesting that I have this predictions blog out and it was just a couple weeks ago where the rumor mill started up once again about Chris Jericho being open for a WWE return. It shouldn’t surprise anyone because Jericho looked revitalized during his last WWE run and appeared to be having fun after a couple years away from the squared circle. Should he return, which I expect him to in a couple months, there is already something set with a feud against Dolph Ziggler. Should Ziggler be unavailable due to a World Championship reign/match, a match against Daniel Bryan would be a WrestleMania dream come true.
Big Show vs. Ryback
This is another one of those rumored WrestleMania 29 matches that have picked up steam in the last couple of weeks and to me it makes a lot of sense. Whether you like it or not Ryback is going to be a future WrestleMania main-eventer for the WWE. The image of him picking up The Big Show for a “shell shock” and parading around the ring gives the WWE that historical moment that could be replayed for years, just like Hulk Hogan body-slamming Andre The Giant at WrestleMania 3 if you catch my drift.
Rey Mysterio vs. Sin Cara
A year ago this potential WrestleMania match was being rumored for WrestleMania 28 and now is once again being rumored for WrestleMania 29. Obviously it didn’t happen last year because both stars were out with injury and a suspension in Mysterio’s case. It looks like the WWE is heading down the road for a match between these two yet again as they have begun teaming them up in Tag Team action. I may be in the minority on this one but I’d love to see a match between these two as a “changing of the guard” type of match in the WWE.
Team Hell No (c) vs. The Primetime Players (For the WWE Tag Team Championship)
It’s been a while since we have seen a meaningful WWE Tag Team Championship match at a WrestleMania but I believe that streak will end this coming year. I have been very adamant that “Team Hell No” is one of the best acts in professional wrestling nowadays and they have single handily helped advance the WWE Tag Team division back to the echelon it deserves to be. Thanks to Team Hell No’s presence in the Tag Team division we have seen teams like The Primetime Players really step it up a notch and become another one of those entertaining acts in the WWE. I’d really enjoy seeing a Tag Team title match between these two at WrestleMania 29 and hope it takes place.
Both of these guys appear to be somewhat “lost in the shuffle” lately on WWE television and are two former World Champions. If the WWE wants to make The Miz into a decent babyface then putting him up against Del Rio at WrestleMania 29 could be a nice little midcard match that gets the fans interested. I’d personally love to see a match/feud between these two because it’s refreshing to the WWE product and I really hope we get to see it come April 7th, 2013.
