WWE Wrestler of the Week: October 18th – 24th, 2013

You can look, but you can’t touch the WWE Wrestler of the Week because it has been a long time since a diva has won the award. This week’s winner is Brie Bella. She will have the opportunity once again at winning the divas’ title at Hell in a Cell and she certainly has the momentum. Before I get to Brie’s week in review, it’s time for an honorable mention.

I do want to give an honorable mention to well…well…well, it’s the Big Show. He may be kayfabe fired from the WWE right now, but he has cost the Shield the tag titles recently and continues to get on Triple H’s last nerve. After seeing him drive into the arena with a semi truck, I can’t help but think Big Show and the truck will make an appearance at Hell in a Cell. He was the one superstar standing at the end of Battleground, but he won’t be the deciding factor this time. He will interfere, but the show won’t end there.

Now in terms of Brie Bella, she squared off against divas champion AJ Lee on Friday night Smackdown. Brie hit AJ with the facebuster to score a victory over AJ. Brie’s sister certainly helped by causing AJ’s bodyguard Tamina to hit the steel steps. I like that this has become a two on two rivalry.

That pattern continued on Monday night Raw when both Bellas were in tag action against AJ and Tamina. Once again, a facebuster by Brie allowed the Bellas to claim victory. Brie’s momentum could be a bad sign though. A lot of times, the one with the momentum loses on pay-per-view. I honestly think that will continue on Sunday at Hell in a Cell.

While the Bella Twins have the marketing power that WWE loves and the exposure on Total Divas, AJ is going to hold the divas title for a very long time. It has been a very long time since WWE had a diva as well rounded as AJ. No other diva has the combination of mic skills, in-ring ability and charisma that AJ has.

Also, did anyone else notice that Nikki Bella returned from injury? This is the first time I can recall her wrestling since she got hurt. It was talked about on Total Divas, and it makes me wonder why Brie continues to get the title shot. WWE could have inserted Nikki into the feud now to change things up. Then again, with Brie being engaged to Daniel Bryan, WWE may have wanted it to keep it with Brie.

WWE does not need to put the title on Brie. There are other Total Divas like Nikki and Natalya especially, who should also have the opportunity to challenge AJ for the belt. Perhaps no Total Diva will win the title from AJ. Her relationship with Tamina reminds me of Shawn Michaels and Diesel. Tamina is great in the role of AJ’s bodyguard, but perhaps one day she finds a way to be effective on her own that will lead to a break-up just like when Diesel took off on his singles run after the relationship with Michaels ended.

Regardless, Brie Bella scored two pinfall victories over AJ Lee this week and with that earns the WWE Wrestler of the Week award.

Who do you think deserves WWE Wrestler of the Week? What are Brie Bella’s chances against AJ Lee this Sunday at Hell in a Cell?
