Just five days after WWE’s 2014 Royal Rumble pay-per-view we are back with the WWE Wrestler of the Week. Naturally, it is hard to beat the rumble winner for this prestigious award. So it should not come to any surprise that this week’s “winner” is the Animal, Batista.
The only others to win two rumble matches in their career are Hulk Hogan, John Cena, Stone Cold Steve Austin and Shawn Michaels. Batista was always destined for great things in WWE and had a fantastic run from 2002-2010. However, the Animal is not in the same category as those other stars mentioned. He is not a Hulk Hogan or John Cena. He will never be a Stone Cold or Heartbreak Kid. Winning two rumbles is a huge deal. I am sorry Mr. Batista, but you don’t deserve to be in that club.
But as I have been saying, it pays to have friends in high places. Batista’s friendship with WWE COO Triple H helped bring him back to the company. In return, he was surely promised the rumble win and more. However, the issue here is the same with The Rock last year. WWE is pushing a part-time star over the current popular and young stars in the company.
Last year, CM Punk defeated nearly everyone on the roster before The Rock ended the Straightedge Superstar’s historical title reign. I have a feeling Batista will win the WWE World Heavyweight title at WrestleMania 30. Will he end Randy Orton’s title reign? First, the Viper has to get through Elimination Chamber. If he does, then I have a feeling the Animal will destroy the Viper at the show of shows.
I remember thinking last year that Daniel Bryan should end Punk’s title reign. One year later and I think Bryan once again should be champion. I know I am not alone. I also know at some point Bryan will be champion. It’s just unfortunate to see part-time wrestlers like Batista come in and all of a sudden get priority. These part-timers also don’t seem to be up to wrestling on Raw or Smackdown. Batista had returned on January 20th, but here we are ten days later and he has yet to have a match on WWE’s weekly television shows.
