WWE Wrestler of the Week: January 10th – 16th, 2014

This week was a difficult one to award WWE Wrestler of the Week, as there were many different candidates. We could give the award to Kofi Kingston for his win over WWE World Heavyweight Champion Randy Orton. However, the win seemed to be more about making Orton angry than to put Kingston over. The award could go to the Shield after two wins over CM Punk and the New Age Outlaws. However, again, the second win was more about the Outlaws abandoning Punk than the Shield winning.

With that said, you may not agree with this pick for that very reason. This week’s winners are the Usos after their two wins on Raw over Daniel Bryan and Bray Wyatt.

On SmackDown, the Usos fought Luke Harper and Erick Rowan to a double count out. This was the opening contest on Friday night. The Usos would compete in the opening match on Raw as well, but this time against Bryan and Bray. Jimmy and Jey would win by disqualification when Harper and Rowan got involved. However, later on, Brad Maddox and Kane would schedule a rematch as the main event of Raw. The match was held inside a steel cage.

In the main event, the Usos were able escape the cage. This happened even with Harper and Rowan standing outside, trying to prevent Jimmy and Jey from winning. In both matches, the Usos are left standing and able to walk out their victory on their own.

Just like the wrestlers mentioned at the very beginning of this article, these matches weren’t really about the Usos. They were about the relationship between Daniel Bryan and the Wyatt Family.

However, when was the last time the Usos won the main event on Raw?

That’s a big deal for the twin brothers. Jimmy and Jey were rarely on WWE TV a few years ago and now they are main eventing Raw. And winning.

Could this lead to a tag team title reign?

Well, let’s see. The tag champions right now are the Rhodes Brothers – Cody and Goldust. They are a babyface team so it’s unlikely we will see the two teams square off on their own. Plus, WWE has the opportunity to set up that brotherhood matchup at WrestleMania that Goldust has been craving for. In order for that to happen, Cody and Goldy have to break up either at Royal Rumble or Elimination Chamber. That doesn’t give them a lot of time to build up to their WrestleMania match. Then again, WWE doesn’t spend a lot of time building up matches in general.

If the Rhodes brothers do split up, who should become the tag team champions? The Usos. Who are the other tag team options? The Prime Time Players and Los Matadores are rarely on WWE programming these days. The Wyatt Family is busy with other things like Daniel Bryan. It would have to be the Usos and the Real Americans. As much as Antonio Cesaro and Jack Swagger are a solid team, the Usos deserve it more. The two could have a great feud regardless.

We will have to see if the Usos continue to get pushed, but they certainly have a great fan base (how many tag teams have their own t-shirt?) and have been one of the most underrated teams in WWE for a while now. After the Rhodes are done are champions, I say give Rikishi’s sons a reign. When I say Uce you say O – Uce….
