Ladies and gentleman, boys and girls, children of all ages, Camel Clutch Blog proudly brings to you its WWE Wrestler of the Week! During a time when Layla reverted back to her heel flawless character and Big E Langston continuously has been getting the upper hand on Dolph Ziggler, another WWE superstar has risen above them all. This week’s winner is someone I never expected to be written about here. After spending the majority of the last two years either in the midcard or injured, he is finally receiving one more match. This week’s winner is Christian.
Of these three superstars, I would not have expected Christian to win. Orton holds Money in the Bank for the WWE title, but having him win the World Heavyweight title would have been very intriguing. Perhaps it would have been the start of the two titles merging. Van Dam also would have been a logical choice. He and Del Rio have had a number of matches lately and RVD as a world champion again in WWE would certainly be more interesting than Del Rio.
In any case, Christian was able to score the victory and will not have one more opportunity to become World Heavyweight Champion in WWE.
Just three days later, Christian had a match against Heath Slater on Raw. This match really baffled me beginning with the fact that Christian didn’t even get a proper entrance. He just become number one contender for the World Heavyweight title and you are taking away his entrance and giving him a squash match?
Obviously, Christian defeated Slater without any problems, but I think WWE could have done better than this. It makes me question whether or not Christian will actually defeat Del Rio at SummerSlam.
Del Rio is and always has been a very stale character, whether champion or not. His personal ring announcer Ricardo Rodriguez has helped him gain more reaction than if he were alone. However, after serving a suspension for wellness policy, Rodriguez returned on Raw and received a beating from Del Rio.
It’s hard to say who would make a more interesting champion between Christian and Del Rio. Neither gets a huge reaction from the crowd so I’m not sure why WWE chose to go with this feud. As if the World Heavyweight title scene couldn’t get any less interesting, this match was announced.
Christian deserves this opportunity, as he seems to be a class act in WWE and one of the more underutilized superstars on the roster. He has spent the majority of his career in the midcard or tag team division with Edge. It wasn’t until Edge retired that Christian had a short-lived tenure in the main event scene.
Here is to Christian’s one more match and one more chance at being in the main event of WWE. Here is to the WWE Wrestler of the Week.
