As of this writing WrestleMania 30 is days away. Yes 30! That’s unbelievable at least to me who has watched all 30 since that first one on March 31, 1985. That very first WrestleMania took place in Madison Square Garden right here in New York City, and it is at the Garden that we had WrestleMania 10, and then 20. For all nostalgic purposes this is where WrestleMania 30 should be taking place as well.
Daniel Bryan winning the title could easily turn out to be the best WrestleMania moment we have seen in years. His story has everything to make that the case. His getting screwed for months, his long, long chase of the title, and of course not winning the title since defeating John Cena at Summerslam last year. We all know what happened at that show and what has continued to happen to Bryan ever since.
Of course we all know that Bryan wasn’t even supposed to be in that main event to begin with. A returning Batista would go on to win the Royal Rumble, and just like that he had the title match with Randy Orton at Wrestle Mania. Once again a returning star was to headline WrestleMania, only this time it wouldn’t quite work out that way.
For one Batista is not Rock so the fans would boo him heavily for winning the Royal Rumble that Daniel Bryan wouldn’t even participate in. Then C.M Punk walked of the company the day after so his planned match with HHH at the big show would now go to Bryan. So we can try and forget the stupidity of keeping Bryan out of the Rumble in the first place, and just be grateful that he’s in the main event where he belongs.
Yes the company was forced to go in this direction. But we may also feel the thrill of a long overdue payoff, the Wrestle Mania moment that were always so worth waiting for after a long title chase like this one. For months we were furious to watch Bryan get screwed over and over again understandably so. Times have changed, and rarely do fans have the patience to sit through the long title chase anymore.
Unfortunately, I too have become accustomed to that even being the old school wrestling fan that I am. I too was concerned that the long chase could ruin Bryan. But I was willing to at least wait until WrestleMania to see what happened for this was the chance to find out if Bryan was being buried or would he get the big payoff win in the end.
This is why Daniel Bryan needs to overcome the odds; defeat HHH, so he can participate in the Triple Threat main event against Orton and Batista where he must win. Not only because it makes all the logical storyline sense in the world, but also because that would surely be old school WrestleMania. It doesn’t get better than that.
