Whent he WWE forced Kane into The Authority’s partial role of both Chyna and Rick Rude when they were both part of DeGeneration X, I was just as mad as everyone who is a fan of the man and his work “IN THE RING.”
His current program with The Shield is intriguing and fresh and most of all – will put all three members of the Unholy Trinity over as faces in the WWE, a transition that a few months ago I did not think was possible.
The greatness of all three characters – especially Seth Rollins of late, makes the changes in profile for Dean Ambrose, Roman Reigns and Rollins perfect for this time of year. This is a pet project of the WWE that has been everything it has needed to be – which means more than anything, Ambrose, Reigns and Rollins has a bright and long future in the company and the business.
If Undertaker is the most tenured wrestler on the roster in the company, then Kane is the most dependable and possibly the most underrated of all time.
All too often I pick at what Vince McMahon and his boys do with scripts and characters and do not agree with what is being put down. I was not on board when Kane took his mask off and traded it in for a suit and tie – but now the plan to put Kane in a program with Reigns or all three wrestlers really interests me.
Kane has been considered one of the best wrestlers and protectors in the ring. There is such care in his craft and he works with his opponents or partners to get the best product possible. The fact his mask is off and we see an “exposed” wrestler may mean writers play on this as his career winds down.
Kane began his his professional wrestling career on the independent circuit in 1992. He wrestled in promotions such as Smoky Mountain Wrestling and the United States Wrestling Association before joining the World Wrestling Federation (now WWE) in 1995. Jacobs played various characters until 1997, when he was repackaged as Kane, the masked half-brother of The Undertaker, with whom Jacobs would alternatively feud or team as the Brothers of Destruction.
Kane has won 18 total championships during his WWF/E career, including being a three-time world champion (having held the WWF Championship, ECW Championship, and World Heavyweight Championship once each), and is also a 12-time tag team champion, having held the WWF/World Tag Team Championship, WCW Tag Team Championship, and WWE Tag Team Championships with various partners. He also is a Money in the Bank winner.
The career is storied and successful and worthy of Hall of Fame induction. He is – like Edge was – part of the “unseen glue” that holds the company together. While his character has attempted to be duplicated in other promotions, (Abyss) he and Undertaker’s characters are some of the most prized and unique characters that have stood the test of decades.
He retirement, as it is nearing and his career is on the backward lide, is a hole this company cannot fill.
