The WWE Royal Rumble is history and it is now time to look ahead to the biggest show of the year. WrestleMania 30 is just a few months away and we may finally have a card that we can all start talking about.
Randy Orton vs. Batista for the WWE world championship will act as the championship main-event. Batista won the Royal Rumble as expected and these two former Evolution teammates will now square off in New Orleans. This is hardly anything new as these two rivals have matched up numerous times on television and on past WWE pay per views. I think it is one of the weaker championship matches on paper that the WWE have ran with in recent years. It’s a good thing that this match has a lot of support because I just don’t see it as any kind of a big draw in 2014.
Brock Lesnar vs. The Undertaker is what most are calling the real main-event here. This match is many years in the making with Vince McMahon originally trying to book it a few years back when Brock was UFC champion. I like it and it is certainly intriguing. What is most intriguing to me is how The Undertaker will hold up physically to Lesnar’s snug style. I don’t see any way that the streak ends here. It wouldn’t make sense to end the streak at this point. On top of that I can’t imagine the streak ending with a guy that is only a part-time player with a limited contract. Brock’s role appears to be the guy who puts the stars over annually at Mania.
Triple H vs. CM Punk was the scheduled match but that has been scrapped. It is appearing that the new direction will be Daniel Bryan vs. Triple H. I love it! I think this match will be red hot, if not the hottest of the night. I’d love to see them throw in a stipulation giving Bryan a title match at Extreme Rules if he wins since it is in Seattle. I think Bryan vs. Hunter will be a hell of a match with a lot of high drama. I have no problem with this and I think the WWE lucked into a better match here after Punk walked out.
John Cena vs. Bray Wyatt is one of the stranger WrestleMania decisions I have heard in a long time. I don’t think there is anything wrong with it. It isn’t worse than putting The Miz in there with Cena. I am just not sure if Bray Wyatt is as over right now as some expected. Hey, a great way to change that is to put him in a big match with Cena at Mania. It is certainly intriguing but a little strange nonetheless.
I would expect more Mania events along these lines with the big event on the network. Why go out of your way with extra costs when it won’t mean as much in buys as it has with the previous 29 events? All in all I am sure it’ll be a solid show, I just don’t see WrestleMania here.
