With the WWE Royal Rumble in the books it’s time once again to check back on my WrestleMania 29 predictions back from December of this year. Do my predictions still appear to be intact? Have I added new matches to my WrestleMania 29 predictions card? Let’s take a look at my latest Wrestlemania 29 predictions for February 2013:
Confirmed WrestleMania 29 matches:
The Rock (c) vs. John Cena (For the WWE Championship)
Barring CM Punk winning this upcoming Monday this match is officially on the table and I don’t see a reason why it would come off. I predicted this back in December 2012 because everything I read had the stars aligning for a rematch between these two. Honestly I don’t see why people are so upset about this rematch happening again as they can only get better from their first match. Plus wasn’t this one of the more anticipated WrestleMania matches in sometime?
Alberto Del Rio (c) vs. Jack Swagger (For the World Heavyweight Championship)
Another match that is on the table that I never saw coming quite frankly because Jack Swagger wasn’t on WWE television in recent weeks and just made his return before Elimination Chamber. I can see why people are complaining about this match happening at WrestleMania 29 but it’s an “old school” storyline that makes sense. We know both of these guys are good in-ring workers too so don’t dismiss this match so quickly.
Predictions from December & January:
CM Punk vs. The Undertaker
[adinserter block=”1″]As of right now I’m not going to believe in the discussion that The Undertaker isn’t going to be able to wrestle at ‘Mania this year. This is professional wrestling and it’s a business where they want the fans to be “swerved” & more importantly surprised. With all the discussion that Undertaker can’t wrestle this year it leads me to believe he will. The CM Punk/Undertaker picture will be clearer this coming Monday after the Punk/Cena match is in the books.
Brock Lesnar vs. Triple H
Since the last time I wrote this blog after Royal Rumble 2013, I have to admit that I’m surprised Triple H hasn’t appeared on WWE TV yet. This match has everything fans want to see in a WrestleMania build up and I think we will see a clearer picture in how this will buildup after McMahon battles Heyman on this coming week’s RAW. I wouldn’t be surprised if that officially kicks this predicted WrestleMania match into 4th gear.
Chris Jericho vs. Dolph Ziggler
I’ve been predicting this match since December 2012 so I am going to hold true to it in February 2013 still. It’s a match I would love to see again at WrestleMania as I feel like it’s a bigger deal Dolph Ziggler is facing Chris Jericho then contending for a World title. With that said I have also been very confused about the way WWE has used these two guys in recent weeks as they may just be part of “WrestleMania stagnant” time as we await their WrestleMania builds.
Big Show vs. Ryback
Ryback has been tied to Chris Jericho, he’s currently tied to The Shield and at one time he was tied to this potential match. With that said I have two new predictions for both guys and am going to officially remove this from my predictions blog for WrestleMania. I think it’s a shame WWE isn’t doing it because the image of Ryback carrying The Big Show for a “shell shock” would be a replayed “WrestleMania moment.”
Rey Mysterio vs. Sin Cara
WWE hasn’t used these guys all that much lately so there is a very good chance this match isn’t happening. For the longest time WWE has been rumored to want to do a “masked attendance” Guinness world record so for that reason alone I’ll leave this predicted match on my list for at least another month.
Team Hell No (c) vs. The Primetime Players (For the WWE Tag Team Championship)
I don’t think this match will happen any more but I still wouldn’t mind seeing it. Until proven otherwise I’m going to leave this on my predictions list with the hopes of it happening.
Alberto Del Rio (c) vs. Randy Orton vs. Sheamus (For the World Heavyweight Championship)
Very strange that this match isn’t happening since these are the three biggest stars on the “Smackdown brand” (or what’s left of it). Obviously we can now cross this match off the predictions blog list as well. It’s intriguing to see what WWE has planned for Randy Orton.
Antonio Cesaro (c) vs. The Miz (For the WWE United States Championship)
I’ve enjoyed what the WWE has done in recent weeks with these two and I hope it carries over into WrestleMania. The more they feud the better this match looks like it will happen. It has the potential of being that mid-card match fans want to see on “WrestleMania Sunday.”
New predictions for February 2013:
Wade Barrett (c) vs. Sheamus (For the WWE Intercontinental Championship)
We possibly saw the “seeds planted” for this WrestleMania match from this past week’s Monday Night RAW and I actually hope WWE follows through with this. The reason why I say this is because it wasn’t too long ago that both stars looked like they could be the future of the company. Both stars have had their ups and downs throughout their short WWE career so having them both face off at ‘Mania would be very deserving.
Ryback vs. The Shield (Gauntlet match)
It looks like right now Ryback is on a collision course with “The Shield” in some sort of WrestleMania match. It’s starting to become a “chip on Ryback’s shoulder” that he can’t beat The Shield so from a storyline standpoint it’s makes a sense for him to face The Shield in some sort of “Gauntlet match” at WrestleMania where he can finally overcome these three rising stars. The Shield is looking unstoppable right now and it’s making Ryback into a star that the fans can get behind so I wouldn’t be shocked if this match happens.
Randy Orton vs. The Big Show
I had a tough time finding a spot for both these stars so why not face one another? Orton vs. Big Show has that strong appeal to the lower part of the WrestleMania card so I wouldn’t be shocked if the WWE goes with it. What I would be shocked is if the WWE doesn’t have a match for both stars at WrestleMania 29.
Daniel Bryan vs. Kane
[adinserter block=”2″]Personally I don’t like the thought of “Team Hell No” having a match against one another at WrestleMania 29 but all signs currently point to that happening right now. The battle of the “I am the Tag Team champion” may come to an official end and it would be pretty interesting to see the WWE Tag Team Champions actually face one another at WrestleMania. I’ve been a big fan of “Team Hell No” since they began and have felt like they are the best act in wrestling right now but I also realize that WWE will do what they can to break them up at some point in 2013.
