It may be eight months away but it is never too early to start talking WrestleMania! WrestleMania 29 will go down April 7, 2013 and while we are a while away from seeing WWE matches booked, we can certainly have some fun and start to speculate.
While it is almost impossible to come up with a WrestleMania 29 card today, you can get a pretty good idea of where they are going due to current storylines and pushes. It is a fairly safe bet that guys like CM Punk, John Cena, The Rock, Brock Lesnar, and The Undertaker will have a big part in the April event. Yet it is still hard to get a grasp on where guys like Daniel Bryan, Sheamus, Randy Orton, and Dolph Ziggler will be or whether someone like Triple H will even wrestle altogether.
[adinserter block=”2″]So taking a look at the big picture of where stories are today and how guys are currently positioned, I thought it would be interesting to take a stab at some of the featured matches on next year’s card. Expect to see more of these predictions in coming months as we get closer to the big event.
John Cena vs. The Rock for the WWE championship
I think it is pretty obvious that the WWE is heading back to WrestleMania with the same car they sold last year. The Rock went over on Cena last year and is due to get his win back. The story of The Rock’s quest for the WWE title will add a different dimension to this year’s event. Because you know as John Cena said, WrestleMania wins and losses don’t mean anything. I expect these guys to rematch with the WWE championship on the line with a lot less intrigue than last year’s disappointing match.
The Undertaker vs. Brock Lesnar
I know about all of the rumors of Lesnar wrestling The Rock at WrestleMania but I think those plans have greatly changed. Steve Austin is likely out of the mix at this point which leaves the $5 million with one option. The option makes sense, more sense than just about anyone. The WWE can really open up a different side of The Undertaker here and allow him to show a more “real” side than a character. On paper I would expect this match to disappoint, however I’ll never doubt The Undertaker at WrestleMania again after two great matches with Triple H. If this one takes place in New Jersey I would look for a big angle to set this up at Survivor Series.
CM Punk vs. Sheamus
I don’t think this one will be for any world championship as I don’t expect either of these guys to remain champions for another eight months. The collision course makes a lot of sense and I think the WWE could do something special here. On the one hand it would seem like a bit of a step down for Punk will be coming off a potential Royal Rumble match with The Rock. On the other hand, it would be a nice boost to Sheamus which SmackDown could desperately use. I wouldn’t bank on this one yet I wouldn’t be surprised.
Randy Orton vs. Dolph Ziggler for the WWE world heavyweight title
Yes, I predict that Ziggler will be WWE world heavyweight champion by WrestleMania 29. Orton and Ziggler have had some phenomenal matches on television. I have no doubt that they could repeat their stellar performances here at Mania. I wouldn’t even be surprised to see Dolph the babyface vs. Orton the heel. Either way, I would love to see what these guys could do together on the biggest stage of the year.
Chris Jericho vs. Daniel Bryan
Bryan is an odd man out here. I went back and forth on predicting Bryan vs. Punk or Bryan vs. Jericho but I think this is where he winds up, which isn’t a bad thing. I think Jericho and Bryan could tear the house down. I really enjoyed the battle of catchphrases a few weeks ago on RAW. If they could pull off something that entertaining outside of the ring, imagine how good these two could be inside the ring.
Triple H vs. ???
[adinserter block=”1″]I have sat here trying for over an hour to figure out who Triple H could wrestle at WrestleMania and nobody makes sense. CM Punk seems like an obvious choice, but I really think they blew their load with that match last year. A returning Dave Batista could work, but it would appear that Batista is obligated to his MMA career. Alberto Del Rio is an intriguing name but they would really need to repackage Del Rio as he has been marginalized over the last year. I think there is huge potential for a match with The Rock, but that is at least a year away. I can’t see anyone for The Game looking at the current landscape, but that could change as we get closer to April.
