As a result of the excitement of the biggest WrestleMania event of the last three decades, I have decided to expand preview coverage to individual key matchups. Today I preview and offer predictions on the main-event, John Cena vs. The Rock.
Let’s not kid ourselves, this is the clear main-event of the pay per view. Championship match or not, this is the one that as the old timers would say, “puts the a&$es in the seats.” The Rock will return to the ring and wrestle his first singles match in a little less than nine years when he goes one and one with the face of the WWE, John Cena.
The Rock has had his hits and misses in the ring. He really hit his stride towards the end of his last singles run in 2003 in my opinion. He really seemed to diversify his in-ring game at that time, varying from his usual blue print of wrestling match. My hunch is that The Rock will stick strictly with his blue print here, being that the WWE Universe will actually prefer the “greatest hits” as opposed to something new (think about seeing your favorite classic bands and how you run to the bathrooms when they play the new songs.)
Cena has been hit and miss as well at WrestleMania. His last match with The Miz may be the worst of his WrestleMania run. I don’t necessarily remember anything great he has done at WrestleMania, but he has had some decent matches. My guess here is that he will be looking to rebound from a horrific performance last year and put on a match for the ages.
Prediction: The Rock pins John Cena. I can’t imagine giving the fans anything else, unless Cena turns heel. I don’t see that happening so I’ll stick with a win for Dwayne Johnson in Miami.
