WWE WrestleMania 27 Card Predictions Part 2 – Inside The Wheelhouse

Triple H vs. The Undertaker is a rumored WrestleMania 27 main-eventI did blogs like this last year for WrestleMania 26 right around the same time last year and I decided to do it again as we get closer to WrestleMania 27 in the Georgia Dome. I’m going to continue to predict the card throughout the upcoming weeks and focus this week more on the mid-card matches of WrestleMania 27. This is like the “meat and potatoes” of WrestleMania during the show. Keeping people anticipating as we reach the main event level.

The Undertaker vs. Triple H

This very well could become a new bit every week on the blog until we actually get a concrete idea of where WWE Creative wants to go with both of these stars heading into WrestleMania. Last week I discussed The Undertaker vs. Wade Barrett making the most sense, but according to reports the WWE may decide to go in a completely different direction with both of these stars. So with that being said I thought I’d discuss this Main Event match, despite attempting to focus on the mid-card matches.

The WWE obviously feels that whatever WrestleMania 27 sheet they are developing currently isn’t exactly a strong card in their eyes. Triple H and The Undertaker is a Main Event match at a WrestleMania. But I’m not sure if this year’s WrestleMania makes the most sense.

The rumor is for it to be a possible Streak vs. Career match again, with Shawn Michaels as a Special Guest Referee. That match has star power but I believe it is a WrestleMania too early for them to pull this trigger. It’s a big match no doubt but for WrestleMania 27?

We get it, Triple H is going to be retiring soon and will become more of a novelty act as he goes behind the curtain and assumes the Vince McMahon role in the company. But why can’t he do what he did this year and work shorter programs or disappear for a while? You left the company with a feud with Sheamus still on the table and your going to return to go after The Undertaker? That makes no sense whatsoever.

Then you have The Undertaker who was taken out at Survivor Series by Wade Barrett only to return to take on Triple H or be a recipient of a Triple H attack? It makes no sense at all as we approach less then 8 weeks away from the event.

Not only will that match be put together so quickly it will looked rush but it will bury Sheamus and Wade Barrett, two future stars in the process. What is going to happen to them next? A match where The Corre vs. Nexus for Barrett? Or maybe a Money in the Bank for both men? It makes them look weak and won’t help the torch be passed to the future.

I like the idea of the match but not for WrestleMania 27, save it for WrestleMania 28 and give it the proper build, like they did with HBK vs. Taker at last year’s WrestleMania. Why rush something potentially good now and bury young talent in the process?

I hope the WWE does not go this route but it appears this match is gaining some mega steam as we approach 2.21.11.

Triple H vs. Sheamus

Should the WWE decide not to give us Undertaker vs. Triple H then this is the match the will most likely happen as “The Game” is set to return at any moment now. It makes the most sense because it was in fact Sheamus who put “The Game” on the shelf for almost the last year. So what is the sweetest revenge? Triple H/Sheamus II at a WrestleMania of course.

The injury angle almost feels like it was one of the worst things that has happened to Sheamus in the past year. When he put Triple H on the shelf he was at the top of his game and a World Champion again. Once the fall hit and it appeared Triple H was returning, only to never return, it actually buried the star more the anything.

The WWE is to blame for this because if they want to make Sheamus a star they should have had Triple H back sooner. That’s why the Undertaker/Triple H rumors actually piss me off because if they wanted to do this then they could have ended the Triple H/Sheamus feud up at a Royal Rumble. Now when Triple H does return, the fans are going to expect him to go after Sheamus, why else would he go after another star (The Undertaker) when it had nothing to do with him being injured for most of 2010?

Sheamus needs this match to happen at WrestleMania 27 more then anyone. He has been basically non-existent and lost a ton of heat since losing the WWE Championship. He is almost forgotten by fans on WWE programming. He has had one of the saddest falls in recent months, something we haven’t see since Randy Orton’s first World Title reign in 2004.
Who was Orton feuding with at the time? Surprise, surprise, Triple H.

If the WWE wants to do Sheamus right, their future right and their fans, this match needs to happen in Atlanta. They have no other choice because if “The Game” returns before ‘Mania, which it appears he is, then what match makes the most sense? This one! There should be no other discussion.

Obviously if this match does happen at WrestleMania it’s safe to say who will be on the winning end (Triple H), hopefully the WWE and Triple H do a good job making Sheamus look strong again, because he has looked weaker then he did when he first went after Triple H. “The Celtic Warrior” is a future mega star, treat him that way WWE!

Randy Orton vs. CM Punk

I actually like that these two could be facing at WrestleMania 27, or that all signs currently point to these two tangling up at the Georgia Dome. They both don’t need a title involved to make themselves look “good” and they can develop a pretty decent feud based on vignettes. I kind of feel like in a way that this could be this year’s Triple H/Sheamus match in that it’s good match that sits on it’s own.

I was thinking about this the other day but when you really think about it, CM Punk could still be considered a “new” star in the WWE. While I have been watching him since 2002 and have known of him since probably 2000, he is still a “newer star” in the eyes of the WWE or a star knocking on the door of being a huge star. It reminds me of Edge’s develop through the WWE, he never really had “it” till he became a heel.

Punk is one of my favorite wrestlers in the WWE and is clearly the best heel in the company today. The guy can generate heat on anything or with anyone and is primed for a big year in 2011 if he stays healthy enough to continue the course he’s on right now. A match with Randy Orton is still a fresh match and not something that has been jammed down our throats like other potential Orton matches for WrestleMania 27 (Cena/Orton), the fans would be interested in this match and would hold a great mid-card match in the Georgia Dome.

Like I said before this has the Triple H/Sheamus feel to it when it comes to the WrestleMania card. It’s a match that very well could be main eventing with a title involved on anyother PPV, but at WrestleMania it’s good enough to give the fans something they want to see in the middle of the show as a mid-card. I really like the way they have begun to build towards this match in recent weeks and really hope they continue to do so. Punk/Orton is new and it’s fresh, something that both characters could use right now as we approach WrestleMania.

Stay tuned for next week’s blog as a I look at more potential matches for WrestleMania 27!
