Check out the newest trailer for the WWE DVD – The Rise and Fall of WCW. There has been a big buzz about this DVD for months. By the looks of the trailer, it will undoubtedly provoke conversation and interest. The new WWE DVD is available Tuesday August 25.
There has been controversy surrounding this DVD for months. Eric Bischoff, Ted Turner and other WCW executives turned down the opportunity to be a part of the DVD. “I chose not to participate in WWE’s latest revisionist history initiative for many reasons,” wrote Bischoff. Unfortunately the story will lose a bit of credibility without having him or Vince Russo on board to tell their sides of the story.
WWE produced the Rise and Fall of ECW a few years back. Overall the company did a fair job I felt on giving ECW its due. Keep in mind that Paul Heyman was a WWE employee at the time so I wasn’t expecting a big hatchet job anyway. I don’t expect the same kind of treatment given to WCW in this documentary. Bischoff also gave a very nice balance to the story on the WWE Monday Night Wars DVD.
Let’s face it, there aren’t many people around who loved WCW the way the boys loved ECW. I don’t expect many former WCW wrestlers to gloat about the greatness of WCW at this stage in the game. For one, it would be political suicide if they wanted to keep or get a job in the WWE. This would be like Fox News doing a documentary about Barack Obama without one democrat or supporter in the movie.
I will reserve full judgment until I see the documentary in its entirety. For WCW fans, you can look forward to a nice package of classic wrestling matches to be included on the set. For wrestling fans, it will be a nice trip down memory lane and a reminder of how much fun Monday nights used to be.
