WWE Teases Shaq Vs. Big Show Match

Shaq Vs. Big Show is a possibilityShaquille O’Neal’s NBA retirement was barely a few days long before the WWE capitalized on the former RAW Guest Host‘s news. A slight tease on the WWE website has fans buzzing about a potential Shaq vs. Big Show match in the big man’s future.

Shaquille O’Neal ended his NBA career last week and the WWE wasted no jumping in the headlines. It seemed like yesterday that Shaq stood toe to toe with Big Show in arguably the greatest moment of the WWE Guest Host gimmick. The WWE released a statement on their website congratulating their former Guest Host on his career and raising questions about his future. The WWE also posted up a video of Shaq’s confrontation with Show on the website that day.

WWE Universe member Shaquille O’Neal has had the world abuzz since announcing his retirement from the NBA. After his tussle with Big Show as Raw guest star, WWE fans might wonder if the 15-time All-Star will now look to settle his one-night rivalry.

Shaq was a WWE RAW Guest Host on July 26, 2009. In my opinion, he was the best guest host of the entire bunch. I titled a blog about Shaq’s appearance, “Shaquille O’Neal Slam Dunks WWE RAW.” I even speculated in the blog that the WWE would pursue a Shaq vs. Big Show match once the legendary NBA big man retired. Here is what I wrote about what went down with him and Big Show.

“The fun continued at the end of the night for Shaq Daddy. As Big Show was about to choke slam Cryme Tyme, he dropped them, and called Shaq to the ring. Shaq and Show got physical both going for choke slams. The fans went absolutely nuts as the two had fantastic charisma in the ring together. Neither man took the slam as Cryme Tyme came back in the ring to break up the altercation.

There is no doubt that Vince McMahon saw dollar signs at this moment. Show and Shaq went nose to nose and the fans went nuts. Shaq challenged Show to a match. Show turned down the challenge. The two make for a natural match. Considering that WrestleMania takes place during the NBA season, I would expect the match following Shaq’s retirement.”

The reaction to Shaq vs. Big Show didn’t go unnoticed. There were reports in the weeks following RAW that the WWE pursued making a match for SummerSlam 2009. Unfortunately for WWE fans, Shaq’s NBA commitments and contract prohibited any such match from happening. Those barriers no longer stand in the way of the battle of the big men.

Shaq has always been a big wrestling fan and has made numerous wrestling appearances over the years in WCW and the WWE. Unless Shaq’s body is totally shot, I would imagine that signing Shaq to wrestle in the WWE wouldn’t be that difficult. Shaq can also feel comfortable in trusting Big Show after seeing how Show took care of Floyd Mayweather at WrestleMania 24.

The timing couldn’t be any better to get this match locked up for SummerSlam 2011. If the fan reaction on RAW when these two giants went nose to nose is any indication of what current interest would be like, Shaq vs. Big Show would be blockbuste, may even be bigger than The Rock vs. John Cena at this point.
