Where does the WWE go from here? Cena Retains, The Buzzards are Grounded, Orton Punts Big Show
On a night where there was so much predictability, the WWE still delivered a better than expected night for its Survivor Series pay-per-view in none other than Boston.
[adinserter block=”1″]The company did not give us as many surprises with matches as we hoped (remember, many of us writers thought this would be a lame excuse for the 27th year of this event), however there was enough “good” in the matches presented to us that the table will be set accordingly for the final pay-per-view of the year at TLC.
If you were scoring this one at home, a B- would have been a solid grade with room for improvement, but it certainly was not a total loss for the viewers and the company.
Actually for a guy who was leery of plunking down coin on this event, I was surprised as the matches were better than hoped for.
So where does the WWE do from here. John Cena retained his title is a less than thrilling match where I thought Alberto Del Rio looked better than the champion. And while Del Rio has lost for the second time in a little over a month, does this mean Damien Sandow will finally get the run he deserves and possibly gain the World Heavyweight Title after the first of the year at the Royal Rumble?
CM Punk and Daniel Bryan proved to be a very formidable tag team and a union that could ultimately lead to another rivalry down the road in 2014 (one can only hope). The feud with the Wyatts is perfect for both of them, which could also lead to a reemergence of Paul Heyman as the ring leader of the oddity trio or maybe John Laurinaitis showing up again on Raw with the devious trio at his side.
And Randy Orton won “clean” by punted Big Show in the head and then retained the WWE Title with Triple H, Stephanie and Kane watching. Then in a moment, Cena and Orton are in the ring with titles in hand. Guess Monday night will be one worth watching. Could a title unification be in the works?
Here are some other general thoughts on the night’s events…
Kingston a heel?
I thought this was one of the better matches of the night. The Miz sells for his opponent like few other wrestlers and the chemistry he and Kofi Kingston in the ring is better than most. A heel turn by Kingston may mean the company will finally take him as a serious threat to a World Title run.
Roman Reigns is a beast
The traditional 10-man tag match between The Shield and Real Americans vs. The Uso’s, The Rhodes and Rey Mysterio took my breath away.
It looked as if it was going to be the Cody Rhodes show, but Roman Reigns stole the show. The fact Reigns pinned and eliminated four of the five opponents in the match shows how the WWE may eventually use him as a new heel champion.
The agility, power and strength was pure AWESOME
Cody Rhodes eliminates Cesaro and Swagger. Cesaro is still the best talent in the WWE that is used incorrectly. Roman Reigns spear is unfreaking believable
Langston needs a real feud
Big E Langston needs someone to challenge him. I thought it would be Ryback, but he had his hands full with Mark Henry. I am not sure if the Ryback/Henry feud will last, but I could see Ryback and Langston feuding into the new year. A title helps make Langston a good face for the company. A title for Ryback helps him gain legitimacy back after being dumped by Paul Heyman.
Axel and The Miz or Kingston make for a good tag team.
The Divas Survivor match was a joke
But I think a Natalya/AJ title picture makes for good television. Also, this was a pay-per-view that missed Dolph Ziggler and Sandow. And when is Wade Barrett coming back?
Until next time.
