WWE Survivor Series 2013 Lineup Underwhelms

The WWE is gearing up for what used to be one of their “Big 4” pay per view events in the Survivor Series. While the WWE would beef up the lineup in the past, this year’s lineup has to go down as one of the most disappointing ever.

[adinserter block=”1″]To each their own but I am not a fan of The Big Show storyline. That is unfortunate as he will take center stage at the Survivor Series in the main-event. The Survivor Series main-event has been set and it will be The Big Show vs. Randy Orton for the WWE championship. Yep, the same match the WWE offered you for free on SmackDown dozens of times is now a match you are expected to pay $50 to watch.

I understand the novelty in The Big Show and I can certainly appreciate his talents but the annual Big Show reboot is old news. Once every year without fail the WWE will push Show into a headline feud or match, expecting fans to forget about the past 12 months that saw Show portrayed as a marginal player. Same guy, same matches, with a new shine. It’s that time again!

Vince McMahon blamed creative on a recent shareholder’s call for a disappointing SummerSlam buyrate. In other words, he blamed putting Daniel Bryan in the main-event. That is fine but this show is going to be a part of a bigger story. If this show bombs what does that say about the WWE’s perception that the smaller Bryan is a bad push? If the giant can’t draw a good number than you have to ask yourself how big of a problem was Bryan or his size?

The match itself is nothing to get excited about. I do like the storyline, don’t get me wrong. I just don’t like the players. As big of a fan of Randy Orton as I am, he isn’t doing it for me. Something is missing. He was more intriguing a few months ago as a babyface teaming with Bryan against The Shield. He has lost something here and I can’t quite put my finger on it.

The semi-main event will be John Cena against Alberto Del Rio for the world heavyweight title in what is likely to be some kind of gimmick match before all is said and done. I get what they are doing here with Cena. Keeping him involved but somewhat on the down low so he can explode into the top storyline heading into WrestleMania. I like that part but this is another old match.

My hunch would be the Wyatts and Kane vs. Punk, Bryan, and The Miz. I know that fans love the Wyatts promos but in the ring they have been real disappointing. It seems like a big waste of Bryan and Punk to me. I am sure it will be fast and fun, especially if it is 4-on-4, but I have to think they could have done better here. I also wonder if this is the start to a slow build to a Bryan vs. Punk match at Mania.

I just can’t wait for Vince to blame the Survivor Series name on this one. It’s coming!

  1. This PPV was a simple one to book schedule 5 on 5 matches and your NEW stars end up going over in each match. No need to book rematches we really do not want (ADR vs Cena) while Orton and Big Show could be used as captains in a different match. Shame that a major PPV is show that has no significance now.

  2. "I just can’t wait for Vince to blame the Survivor Series name on this one. It’s coming!"

My thoughts 100% exactly. Pathetic really, the level of myopic denial in that company.
