The good news is that if you enjoyed the old school traditional WWE Survivor Series matches you are in luck. A traditional Survivor Series match will headline the annual event. The bad news is the match is barely fit to headline a Monday Night RAW.
[adinserter block=”2″]The WWE laid all of their cards on the table this past Monday on Monday Night RAW in regards to the Survivor Series main-event. Coming off a Hell in a Cell main-event that left many customers who purchased the show dissatisfied, it would have been in the best interest of the WWE to come up with a strong headliner for their next pay per view. Instead WWE fans are expected to pay $50 to watch a match that is barely fit for a television headliner.
The angle came together at the start of this past Monday’s RAW. Mick Foley and CM Punk had another confrontation coming off of the controversial HIAC finish. Remember, it was Foley who pushed Punk to take the HIAC match. The segment ended with Punk challenging Foley to a traditional 5-on-5 Survivor Series match at Survivor Series. Talk about random. The challenge was accepted and the teams were revealed at the end of the show.
The teams were announced and well let’s just say the teams are a great example of the WWE’s failure the last several years to create superstars. If you had any odds on The Miz and ever headlining a Survivor Series pay per view again you are likely a rich gambler. I never would have banked on it.
Team Punk will consist of C.M. Punk & Cody Rhodes & Damien Sandow & The Miz & Alberto Del Rio. Punk of course will be the captain. Team Foley will consist of Ryback & Randy Orton & Kane & Daniel Bryan & Kofi Kingston. Wait you expected Foley to be on his own team? Nope, no Mick Foley which makes me question why he is even involved in this match.
You will also notice the absence of John Cena. If there was ever a headliner on a WWE pay per view that needed Cena’s star power it is this one. Most suspect that Cena will wind up wrestling Dolph Ziggler as part of this Vickie Guerrero angle. Quite frankly I like the match a lot, but it really is a waste of everyone. I’d much rather see both of those guys in the match as opposed to Ziggler jobbing yet again to a WWE star.
[adinserter block=”1″]At the end of the day I have to also wonder if there is going to be a CM Punk vs. Mick Foley somewhere down the line. I really don’t understand the involvement of Foley recently with Punk if there is no payoff. Maybe with the recent rumors of Punk vs. The Undertaker being off of WrestleMania 29 they are going to go with Foley vs. Punk. In the New York market it’s not such a bad idea. However, if you watched any of Foley’s matches in TNA you’ll know that he is way past his prime in the ring. That said, I am sure they would come up with enough gimmicks to camouflage that.
Oh and yes, bet the house on Ryback pinning Punk to win the Survivor Series match.
