Wiping their feet on the apron is a ritual countless wrestlers perform before before stepping into the ring. From Cesaro to Mark Henry, to Razor Ramon and Lord Stephen Regal, the wiping of the boot bottoms before a match has been done by every wrestling generations.

But why? Why do wrestlers wipe their feet before entering the ring?

This new video from the WWE explains the origins and it’s a little bit more involved than just “trying to keep the mat clean for the other wrestlers.”
