Along with Daniel Bryan, Sheamus is the latest superstar to get an entry in this series. Sheamus got his WWE career started in 2009, and by the end of the year, had already claimed his first WWE Championship. From the very beginning, he just seemed like one of those “can’t miss” prospects, and thus far, time has proven that to be true.
Up next was him winning his second WWE title at Fatal 4-Way in June 2010, and although this match is a little better, it’s still pretty rough. Fortunately, Sheamus can’t be the only one blamed for this. The other competitors in the match-Cena, Randy Orton and Edge-all put in really weak performances. Nothing really clicked in this match at all between these four, and it overall felt really sloppy (Orton’s ridiculous amount of jerkiness and unnecessary mannerisms throughout certainly didn’t help).
However, the DVD does get better midway through. With the matches that are on this set, you can see the gradual improvements in Sheamus over his career. The KOTR final against John Morrison is very good, and his US title win over Daniel Bryan is even better. By the time you get to the end of the DVD, which was Sheamus’ Royal Rumble win, you see the Sheamus that we get every week on Friday nights, who is, for lack of a better term, light years ahead of his former self in the in-ring department.
While it is cool to see Sheamus’ RR win on here, it’s unfortunate we don’t get the entire match. We only get the match from when Sheamus entered until the end, and with him having been a late entry, there’s not much of this match on the set.
This set isn’t too bad by any means, but again, I probably wouldn’t go out of your way to pick it up, even with the cheaper price. The first two matches are blah, and you only get part of the Rumble. While the two other matches against JoMo and Bryan are very good, they probably wouldn’t be worth the price of admission for most people. Still, it’s not a DVD that’s going to break your wallet, so if you’re a big Sheamus fan like I am, you might want to pick it up.
