WWE star power returns on Monday Night RAW

In what’s become an unfortunate trend for the WWE, the RAW following the pay-per-view was better television. It was an amazing show on Monday night; headlined by the return of some much needed star power. Just a month ago I was concerned with the depth and direction of the company and in one night that all changed. A new WWE champion was crowned, main event for Battleground was announced, Mr. Money in the Bank almost cashed in and a certain showoff managed to steal the show, again.

As predicted after Money in the Bank, John Cena was put into a lose-lose situation at Battleground. He will put his new WWE World Heavyweight Championship on the line in a fatal 4-way against Randy Orton, Kane and Roman Reigns. Of course, if Cena gets out of that match, there’s always a plan B. Regardless of what The Authority does, Cena will come out on top and face Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam. If this holds up, clearly, The Beast Incarnate is Triple H’s backup plan.

In the main event on Monday, all four men participated in a tag match with Cena and Reigns teaming up against Kane and Orton. It was a great match but the highlight of the main event was at the end. Roman Reigns and Triple H were involved in what was a very intense staredown to close the show. The crowd was clearly excited as they chanted, “this is awesome”. Could this be a sign of things to come? No doubt in my mind Triple H will put Roman Reigns over at SummerSlam.

Dean Ambrose is shining brighter than his former Shield brothers. It’s not that Reigns and Rollins aren’t getting the job done, but Ambrose is just crushing it right now. Everything is going right for him. He’s being booked perfectly, delivering excellent promos and his feud with Rollins is pure entertainment. No question Ambrose has super star written all over him. The fact that Ambrose is going to attempt to sabotage every cash-in attempt Rollins makes creates amazing drama. I cant remember a time that Mr. Money in the bank had to look over his shoulder. It seems for the first time, the Champion has some backup.

Chris Jerico is back!!! When his music hit I damn near jumped out of my chair. I personally rank his entrance in the top three all-time. I heard nothing about his return and I loved the surprise. He interrupted The Miz, hit him with a code breaker and was then confronted and beat down by the Wyatts. I’m extremely excited for him to have a program with Bray. Unlike Cena, Y2J will put Bray over in a big way. They have the potential to put on a great feud and I’m really looking forward to it.

The longest reigning Divas Champion is also back. AJ came out to a great pop, flipped the script on Paige and I love it. It looks as though AJ will be a face and Paige will fall back into her more natural role as a heel. Before Paige ever debuted on the big show, the potential of a Paige-AJ feud was something I was excited for. They are by far the two best women wrestlers in the company. You can really see AJ’s experience shine through against Paige. She’s a phenomenal talker and she will run circles around Paige. A program with AJ will elevate everything about Paige’s game. This will be great.

Other notes:
Finally, Zeb Colter and Jack Swagger turn face and the feud with Rusev is in full swing. This is the perfect scenario and moment for Swagger. The crowd was all over it and I’m sure that was the moment The Real Americans have been waiting for.

Another Champion was stripped of his title. Bad News Barrett needs surgery on his shoulder and a new intercontinental champion will be crowned at Battleground. A Battle Royal will be held to determine the new champion. Cesaro missed out on the contract ladder match at Money in the Bank and wasn’t going to be crowned champion, so no question he is my favorite going into Battleground, if he’s healthy. On a side note, I hate that Cesaro lost the thigh straps. They made him unique and now he looks like every other wrestler.

It’s good to see The Miz back on television. He’s now rocking the Hollywood persona and as long as he stays a heel, I think he will be great.

Dolph Ziggler always finds a way to steal the show.
