WWE Raw…or You Can’t Do That On Television?

WWE NXTFor the past few days, wrestling fans have been abuzz over what would appear to be the legitimate firing of Bryan Danielson from WWE. The conclusion of last week’s Raw saw the 8 WWE NXT Rookies from Season 1 destroy the ringside area, the ring itself, and ruthlessly take out not only WWE Champion John Cena, but everyone from the bell ringer to ring announcer Justin Roberts.

Bryan Danielson has reportedly been fired for choking ring announcer Justin Roberts with his tie. Yes, you read that correctly. Apparently, this does not adhere to the PG rating WWE wishes to have for its programming. Also coming to light is apparently, after the Chris Benoit murders, choking in any form was banned by WWE.

Really WWE…really?

This is ludicrous. The week before the Raw where NXT invaded, there was a FUNERAL for the Undertaker with Kane giving a eulogy swearing vengeance & sending whoever was responsible to the depths of Hell. Now keep in mind WWE is trying to attract children to its product. Call me crazy, but having a FUNERAL for a wrestler who “raises from the dead” & another swearing to send someone to Hell could be scary for a child & possibly venture into the realm of “TV-14” for a TV rating. You can have a FUNERAL on your TV show, but you can’t have someone get choked?

Last night on Raw, the NXT 7 destroyed the backstage area, attacked Bret Hart, & threw Hart into a limousine, which was subsequently run into various vehicles in the garage. The car ride from Hell ended with the limousine backing into another car with Hart inside. Hart was removed by the NXT 7 & left on the floor shaken. You can destroy cars & potentially give someone whiplash or other injuries by doing so (assuming Hart was really in the car while this went on), but you can’t choke someone on TV?

The only upside to this story is what appeared to be the plantings of seeds for a face turn for Danielson if he’s to return to WWE. Wade Barrett said Daniel Bryan would never be seen again because he showed compassion & remorse after last week’s events. If Danielson in fact returns 3 months down the road to confront Barrett, it would set him up for a killer return.

Rumor has it that when Danielson’s 90 day no compete expires, he will be hired back on the 91st day. It’s being said that the firing is something WWE didn’t want to do, but had to do with policy.

Either way, this is a win win for Bryan Danielson. If he’s hired back, he’ll go on to make some great money in WWE. If not, he’ll certainly have no shortage of independent bookings & I’m sure you’ll see either TNA or ROH trying to secure his talents. It’ll be interesting to see how this plays out.
