Here we are. It is that time of year that as a WWE fan that I dread. It is when WWE Creative gets lazy, and books some of the most lackadaisical junk ever. I mean, let’s get real. This Sunday, May 20, 2012, emanating from Raleigh, North Carolina will be WWE’s “Over The Limit,” and I have not heard much enthusiasm about this PPV. Nothing on the PPV looks all that great, and the only saving grace is that Brock Lesnar is being represented by the brilliant Paul Heyman in their storyline legal and physical feud with Triple H. The main event is yet another match between star vs authority figure. I would not want to be in Vince McMahon’s office when they get the buyrate on this one.
Anyway, here are my predictions for this PPV.
Pre-Show on Youtube: Kane Vs Zack Ryder
Diva’s Championship: Layla (c) vs Beth Phoenix
I hope the women get some time here. I really am tired of the Divas getting 3 minutes for their matches on TV, if even that. It really is disrespectful, especially to the ones who have a lot of talent like Beth Phoenix, and Natalya (does Vince even remember Nattie is on the roster?). I feel Layla is improving also. Where is Karma anyway? Had not seen her since the Rumble?
Now that I got off the soapbox, in speaking of Karma, this match up is an example of the goofy booking I was talking about. WWE likes to try to swerve fans just to try to outsmart the Internet when a storyline (especially one that would seem logical) somehow gets leaked onto the Internet. Right before Extreme Rules, Beth Phoenix “injured” her knee on the go home Raw, and Nikki Bella won the Title. Well, it got leaked out on the internet that Karma was going to return and destroy the Bella Twins as the Twins’ contracts were up on April 30th. Well, what did WWE do to outsmart the Internet? They brought back a returning Layla who was gone for a year due to an ACL and had her win the title at the PPV..
Anyway, Beth and Layla haven’t done much to get the feud over, other than those backstage videos on WWE.com. The match could be pretty decent if given enough time. Prediction: Layla retains.
WWE Title: CM Punk vs Daniel Bryan
Well, if you like excellent wrestling like I do…..this is your match. This should be , if given enough time, a match of the year candidate. Fans of both of these guys are probably chomping at the bit waiting for these two to go at it in the biggest wrestling promotion. I mean, these two have gone at it in the independents, and Ring of Honor, but this WWE, the big time, and it is going to be so awesome. I do think they should be held off at SummerSlam, but oh well. Interesting that they have a Smackdown dude (Bryan) challenging a Raw guy (Punk ). In the World Championship Fatal Four Way, there is one Raw guy (Jericho) against three Smackdown guys (they moved Del Rio to Smackdown) , but I don’t see Jericho winning that. Prediction: CM Punk retains.
World Championship Fatal Four Way: Sheamus (C) vs Chris Jericho vs Alberto Del Rio vs Randy Orton
Well, Del Rio has fallen a ways, but it looks like they are trying to build him back up. I don’t see him winning though. I don’t see Jericho winning due to his Fozzy commitments. The battle seems to be between Randy Orton and the Champion, Sheamus. I think it is a bit too soon to take the belt from Sheamus. I am not really interested in this match for some reason. Prediction: Sheamus retains.
WWE Tag Team Match: R Truth/Kofi Kingston vs Jack Swagger/Dolph Ziggler
This match was announced on WWE.com. This is yet another match I have no interest in. It really is a shame because I like all four guys. The tag team division, if you can call it that, is dismal. Gone are the days of the British Bulldogs, the Hart Foundation, the Killer Bees, and such. Say goodbye to the Rockers, Edge and Christian, DX, and the Hardy Boyz. Those days are gone. Pity.
Anyway, it looks like another opportunity to see Swagger and especially Dolph Ziggler buried. I really don’t get it. Kofi Kingston should be breaking through the glass ceiling by now. Prediction: R Truth/Kingston retain.
Main Event: John Cena vs Raw and SD GM John Laurinaitis : Stipulation: The Raw/SD GM must win with NO HELP (if any superstar helps they get fired). If the Raw/SD GM does not defeat John Cena, the Raw/SD GM is FIRED.
This has to be the most asinine main event for a PPV that I have EVER heard of. I mean, especially when on Raw, it was as plain as the nose on your face what is going to happen on Sunday between Laurinaitis and Cena. On the show, the Big Show was blubbering, and crying as he begged for his job as Laurinaitis fired him because Big Show made fun of Laurinaitis’ voice. Well, now unless WWE throws a curve ball to try to out do the Internet ( I am not the only one who is saying this.), Stevie Wonder can see that the Big Show is going to come back and help John Laurinaitis.
After all, Show can’t be “fired,” as he is already fired. Likely, he will help Laurinaitis, and then Big Show will be hired back. Show returns as a heel as he is a willing participant, or a tweener as Laurinaitis “forces” him to cooperate to get his (Show’s) job back. Prediction: Laurinaitis with the help of the Big Show.
