It took almost two hours, but the WWE “Night of Champions” pay-per-view finally caught my attention. RYBACK IS THE NEW PAUL HEYMAN GUY! And yes, DANIEL BRYAN IS THE WWE CHAMPION – AGAIN! In a surprising and yet, perfect change of events, Ryback helped Paul Heyman beat CM Punk. The tide of the WWE turned a bit – maybe for the better.
[adinserter block=”1″]The first two-thirds of this event was boring, seemed forced and was almost one of the worst of the year. Yes, I said that. But after the dust settled and the waters calmed a bit, we learned a great deal about the company as it makes it way to “Battleground” in Buffalo, NY.
Forget about AJ Lee beating Natalya or Curtis Axel beating Kofi Kingston (who else) or RVD losing to Alberto Del Rio (which was so out of sync, it was sad). The real pay-per-view started when Ryback entered the ring. And where was Damien Sandow to cash in?
And we all thought the “Big Hungry” was just a bully in the WWE. Sorry to spoil the milk, but Ryback is now BIG TIME! And he saved Paul Heyman’s ass. Feed him CM Punk. By the way – Heyman is carrying his end as entertainer in such an amazing way. t some point, he will turn face and save the WWE from the Corporation.
Here are some things we learned (and were shocked by) and here are some observations from the night in Detroit, including Bryan’s win.
Dean Ambrose vs. Dolph Ziggler should have been better
I thought for sure of the titles to change hands, this would be the one (no, not the World Title and RVD). The two “mid card” wrestlers had the ability to put on the best match of the night. High flying, charismatic mat wrestlers who know how to go to the air when need be. PLEASE. There should have been more to it than a 10 minute match that ended with an Ambrose win. I assume we move on to Battleground to determine if Ambrose is worthy of keeping his title. While Ziggler was the World Champion, his is a perfect feud for him, and for Ambrose, too.
The Prime Time Players will never be tag team champions
It’s just a feeling, but for over a year, this is a tag team that may be more talented than any we have seen since the British Bulldogs and they have not had WWE gold around their waists. Darren Young and Titus O’Neal acquitted themselves well in the ring and should get a rematch in at Battleground. I also think the Real Americans will have something to say about this when it is all said and done.
Curtis Axel could be in for a big change
He looked good in his win against Kingston and sold it pretty well for Punk in the No DQ Match. But as things change in the WWE, so do its wrestlers. The addition of Ryback does so many things and may eventually cause Axel to turn face. Here is a theory. Heyman comes out on Raw and says he had Ryback ready in the back as insurance if he did win against Punk. Make that if Axel did not beat Punk. The fallout leads to Punk vs. Ryback obviously, but now, the WWE crowd gets behind Axel, who is also abused by both Heyman and Ryback. Axel’s heel persona does not sit well with the fans of the WWE and maybe a face change is best for all things considered.
Bryan’s reign will be short lived
I think there are many angles this could lead to, but here are a few. The win was epic because it places a crack in the armor of The Corporation. Randy Orton is second guessed by Triple H. Maybe a rematch at Battleground is in order. And somehow, either Cody Rhodes or Big Show get thrown into the title situation with Bryan as well. Show is an obvious choice and he turns heel to save his job (he is broke, you know). The torture is written all over Show’s face. The other option is Rhodes returns to the WWE (After Stephanie McMahon talks to daddy Dusty Rhodes.
The option is for Rhodes to get his job back by turning heel and challenging Bryan for the title. Stranger things have happened.
