WWE Night Of Champions 2012 Preview and Predictions

Night of champions 2012 predictionsI want to start this blog by stating that I am very grateful to God that WWE Announcer Jerry “The King” Lawler is on the road to a full recovery after his heart attack on Monday Night Raw, September 10, 2012. WWE officials, doctors, and the EMTs did a great job by acting fast to save Lawler’s life.

Michael Cole, Lawler’s co-announcer should be commended as well for his professionalism on the show. Cole handled the job under such stressful and potentially tragic circumstances with so much grace and class. I am not usually the biggest fan of Mr. Cole’s, but he has got my respect. I have even become a fan of Mr. Cole’s.

That being said, I am ready to discuss this Sunday’s Night of Champions WWE PPV which will be emanating from Boston, MA.

The buildup to this PPV has not been great. I had forgotten about this PPV honestly. It seems to me that WWE takes a vacation when pushing these B PPVs. The company builds them just enough to get some amount of buys, but not enough to make people feel a strong desire to purchase the show.

The lineup goes as follows:

Youtube Match: Battle Royal to determine the No. 1 Contender to the US Title Championship held by Antonio Cesaro (w/ Aksana)

I am thinking that many of the low to mid-carders will be in this match. I am not really all that concerned with who wins. I am thinking that Santino will somehow win the match, and get his rematch.

Prediction: Santino is the winner, and No.1 Contender.

Randy Orton vs. Dolph Ziggler (w/Vickie Guerrero)

This is the only non-title match on the card. I think this match between two very talented wrestlers in both Orton and Ziggler will be one of the best worked matches on the card. With Orton involved in a movie, and not in a high profile feud, I think Ziggler needs the win more.

Prediction: Dolph Ziggler wins.

Diva’s Title: Layla (C) vs Kaitlyn

This match should be kept short. Ever since her return, Layla has yet to return to form. She was a pretty decent worker before her ACL tear. Kaitlyn is a disaster in the ring. With Beth Phoenix back from her sabbatical, hopefully she will get back in the Title hunt.

Prediction: Layla will retain.

Intercontinental Title: Miz (C) vs Cody Rhodes vs Sin Cara vs Rey Mysterio

Let’s look at this match. It was set up at the go home show on Smackdown. This should be another well worked match. I don’t think they will do a title change here.

Prediction: The Miz will retain his title.

Tag Team Titles: Kofi Kingston and R-Truth (w/ Little Jimmy ) (C) vs Kane and Daniel Bryan

We have a match between a stale tag team, and a thrown together team that has two participants hating each other.

I just love the angle between Kane and Bryan, especially when they go to the Anger Management Therapy School. I loved the hugging it out segment, and I think that got the two over as a possible team.

The question is will Kane and Bryan get along? After all, Raw GM AJ Lee ordered them to tag together.

Prediction: If there is going to be a title change, I think it comes here. Bryan and Kane become the new Tag Team Champions.

US Championship: Antonio Cesaro (w/Aksana ) vs No. 1 Contender

I honestly am bored with Cesaro’s saying words in five different language. I don’t see how that will get him over. Whomever is the No.1 Contender, it won’t matter. Cesaro is in the middle of a huge push.

Prediction: Cesaro Retains.

World Heavyweight Championship: Sheamus (C) vs Alberto Del Rio

Sheamus is doing alright as a face, but his reign is a bit boring to me. I am almost hoping that Del Rio takes the strap. I also see that they are using the tried and true “banning the wrestler’s finisher” routine. I will say that at least WWE is using David Otunga’s law background to deny Sheamus the use of his Brogue Kick .

It was also a good idea to have Alberto Del Rio’s personal ring announcer going around with a neck brace to sell Sheamus’ attack.

Prediction: I am thinking that Del Rio will not be winning this match despite his legal maneuverings. Sheamus will find another way to hold to his title.

WWE Title: CM Punk (C) vs John Cena

They are in John Cena’s hometown. That means Cena is going to be crowned the new champion, right? Well, let’s hold on now. CM Punk has been demanding respect from anyone who will listen. He has been calling himself “the best in the world.”

He had mentally and physically manhandled Jerry Lawler. He insulted the WWE fans. He even tried to get respect from his opponent John Cena. WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart even spurned the WWE Champion.

Prediction: With a challenge from the Rock at the Royal Rumble well into the future, it is possible WWE may want to have Punk vs Rock at that match. Regardless, I think Punk will retain and retain his title.
