The WWE is rapidly preparing for the upcoming Survivor Series event in a few weeks, so all of the story lines have been developing quite quickly. Let’s take a look at the three biggest storylines in the WWE this week.
Shane McMahon Added to Survivor Series Match
The latest episode of “SmackDown” ended with some of the biggest news in the past few weeks of WWE programming. Baron Corbin became unavailable to fight at the Survivor Series event after he was injured by Kalisto, so general manager Daniel Bryan was forced to find a replacement wrestler on his roster. While The Miz seemed like an obvious choice, Bryan announced at the end of “SmackDown” that Shane McMahon will be representing the show at Survivor Series. Shane is known for creating excitement every time he steps in the WWE ring, so wrestling fans are certainly going to be happy about this change.
Title Matches at Survivor Series
Since most of the title holders in the WWE are going to be representing their respective brands in traditional Survivor Series matches, there are not going to be very many title matches held during the event. Only two title matches have been scheduled for Survivor Series, and they were both announced this week. Intercontinental Champion Dolph Ziggler expressed his desire to put his title on the line against any member of the “Raw” roster. Sami Zayn defeated Rusev in a match on the latest episode of “Monday Night Raw” to earn the title match at Survivor Series.
The other title match at Survivor Series was announced on the latest episode of “SmackDown.” Kalisto is going to get a chance to compete against Brian Kendrick for the Cruiserweight Championship. If Kalisto is able to win the title, the entire Cruiserweight division will move to “SmackDown.” The WWE Network will feature a new show entitled “205 Live” exclusively focused on the wrestlers in the Cruiserweight division. This show is going to be aired on the WWE Network immediately after “SmackDown” every Tuesday night, so it appears that Kalisto has a very good shot at winning the title at Survivor Series.
Kevin Owens Pins Chris Jericho
Kevin Owens and Chris Jericho have been the best thing about “Raw” for the past few weeks. The self-proclaimed best friends are trying to stay loyal to each other despite both wanting to hold the WWE Universal Title. The last episode of “Raw” ended with a fatal five-way match involving Chris Jericho, Kevin Owens, Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins and Braun Strowman. The match ended with Owens unknowingly pinning Jericho for the win. This is surely going to cause some tension between the partners in the near future, and it will also likely lead to feud between the two wrestlers before the end of the year.
