This Sunday WWE presents Money in the Bank 2014 live from Boston, Massachusetts. This year’s edition will feature one Money in the Bank briefcase match plus another ladder match to determine the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion after Daniel Bryan’s injury. Speaking of which, WWE fans will hear from Bryan for the first time since being stripped of the title. Here are my predictions for the show, match by match.
Pre-Show: Daniel Bryan Interview
WWE is going the path of no preshow match, but a preshow interview instead. Usually the matches on the preshow are meaningless so at least that changes here. WWE fans haven’t seen Daniel Bryan since a week before he was stripped of the WWE World Heavyweight title.
Rusev vs. Big E
This is just another match to showcase Rusev, but at least Big E’s size somewhat matches up with the Bulgarian Brute. WWE fans might not like what the company has done with Big E, but I am not surprised. Big E seems like a great guy and has a good look, but he never had a gimmick on the main roster. The 5 Count gimmick he had in NXT did not transfer over on the main roster. It took way too long for WWE to give him merchandise too. He was already Intercontinental Champion when they produced his first t-shirt.
Summer Rae vs. Layla (Guest Referee: Fandango)
This has been a weird feud for me since both ladies are heel. Summer Rae should not be a babyface. She has heel written all over her. From her character on Total Divas to the way she started out with Fandango on the main roster, she was great at being hated. I also prefer Layla as a heel too so this might just have to be one of those short term situations with heel vs heel. I am fine with either one winning or even both being his valets. However, I think Summer Rae should win since shes more of a newcomer and WWE is looking to push their new generation of stars.
Winner: Summer Rae
Goldust and Stardust vs. Rybaxel
While I am not surprised that the Dust brothers are having a match at Money in the Bank, I am a little disappointed it is against Rybaxel. Obviously, WWE loves to repeat matches every week. Usually matches on Smackdown are repeated on Raw. Hence why I rarely watch SmackDown live.
In any case, this will just be another squash match that will continue to focus on the development of Stardust.
Winners: Goldust and Stardust
WWE Divas Championship: Paige (C) vs. Naomi w/Cameron
WWE has been great lately at creating interesting Divas title feuds. Last month, it was Alicia Fox’s breakdowns and now it is the rift between Funkadactyls Naomi and Cameron. Unfortunately, these feuds tend to focus on the challenger. Paige continues to disappoint as champion. To read more about why Paige’s run as Divas has failed, click here
The end of this match should bring the demise of the Funkadactyls. Cameron is not a great wrestler, but she would make an excellent heel valet. She will certainly cost Naomi the match, which will lead to a future triple threat match for the title or just a match between the Funkadactyls.
Winner: Paige retains the Divas Championship
The Usos defending the tag titles against Luke Harper and Erick Rowan of the Wyatt Family is finally happening. I thought it was going to happen last month at Payback, but instead all four wrestlers were just side attractions during the John Cena/Bray Wyatt match. As happy as I was when The Usos won the tag titles, the Wyatt Family is just so much more dominant. The Uso brothers certainly deserved this title run. They were jobbers for a long time, but thanks to a weak tag team division and fan support, they got a push. Unfortunately, Harper and Rowan deserve a run as well.Winners: The Wyatt Family become NEW WWE Tag Team Champions
Money in the Bank Contract Ladder Match: Seth Rollins vs. Dean Ambrose vs. Bad News Barrett vs. Jack Swagger vs. Dolph Ziggler vs. Rob Van Dam vs. Kofi Kingston
These Money in the Bank ladder matches are always difficult to predict since there are so many participants involved. WWE fans should be thankful that this match was added to the card. While two Money in the Bank briefcases was overkill for the company, one is good.In terms of this year’s participants, we can eliminate a few from consideration. Jack Swagger, Rob Van Dam and Kofi Kingston are definitely not winning. Swagger and Kingston are jobbers, while RVD is past his time. That leaves Rollins, Ambrose, Barrett and Ziggler. The least likely of these four is Ziggler since his stock has dropped so much since he won the briefcase two years ago. Out of the remaining three, I have decided to go with Rollins. The newest Triple H guy has the backing of the Authority. He made his heel turn for a reason. To get pushed. And he will get pushed by winning the Money in the Bank briefcase.Winner: Seth Rollins wins the Money in the Bank briefcase
WWE World Heavyweight Championship Ladder Match: Roman Reigns vs. John Cena vs. Randy Orton vs. Bray Wyatt vs. Cesaro vs. Alberto Del Rio vs. Sheamus vs. Kane
Just like the contract match, the WWE World Heavyweight title ladder match is difficult to predict. There are eight participants and not as many obvious losers. We can definitely eliminate Alberto Del Rio, Sheamus and Kane. Not even sure how Del Rio got in this match. Sheamus is U.S. Champion so chances are they don’t give him more titles. Kane would be an interesting choice, but I just don’t see him winning anymore World Titles in his career unfortunately.
That leaves Reigns, Cena, Orton, Wyatt and Cesaro. While many believe that Reigns, Wyatt and Cesaro are all future champions, there’s an issue. Pushing one of them to the big title now is very risky. They would all be very new to the world title scene.Think about why this match is for the WWE World Heavyweight title. Daniel Bryan got injured. It wasn’t part of the plan. So WWE had to regroup and decide who to switch the belt over to. This is not the time to crown a brand new face of the company.
Winner: John Cena becomes NEW WWE World Heavyweight Champion
