This Sunday, live from the Staples Centre in Los Angeles, California, WWE plays host to its next PPV, Hell in a Cell. The appeal of the Hell in a Cell match has dropped heavily since its debut, mainly due to it being rather overused, but it still serves as one of the most brutal matches a superstar could compete in. This year, there are two on the card, and here are my predictions for those matches, as well as the rest of the card.
A match thrown together because the company has nothing better for these six men, and the company’s originally booked match here was cancelled due to an injury to Randy Orton. All 6 of these men should be at a bigger stage. On one team, one of them is Mr. Money in the Bank, one is the current King of the Ring and the other was unbeaten up until earlier this year. The other team has 3 exceptionally talented superstars who the crowd loves. Instead, they are thrown together in this pre show match, which I’m expecting the babyfaces to win only because the heels won this match on the RAW just gone.
Prediction – Neville, Cesaro and Ziggler win
Hell in a Cell
The New Day vs the Dudley Boyz for the WWE Tag Team Championships
Had The New Day not done such a remarkable job getting their gimmick over, the Dudleyz would have been champions already. However, Kofi, Xavier and Big E have excelled with their gimmick and week in, week out add something completely different to the shows. Recently, they’ve been getting pushed a bit more by the company, even laying out the Dudleyz, Dolph Ziggler and John Cena to close out an episode of RAW. It doesn’t make sense for them to be on the brink of becoming something big, and then the company have them drop the titles after just two months again. They are the young guys, and they should again retain the titles. The Dudleyz won’t suffer too much from not capturing the titles, and they should move on to a new feud that pushes them further than holding the titles would.
Prediction – The New Day retain
Kevin Owens vs Ryback for the Intercontinental Championship
There are no doubts in my mind who will win this match. Owens has just won the championship, and this match is only really here to give Ryback his contracted rematch. It is too early for WWE to even consider having Owens drop his title, especially as he is doing a good job so far as champion.
Prediction – Kevin Owens retains
Charlotte vs Nikki Bella for the Divas Championship
This match is very similar to the Owens vs Ryback match. Charlotte has just become champion and this match stands as a contracted rematch for Nikki rather than her truly being in contention to win back her title. Charlotte will win and probably go on to feud with Paige given their recent issues, while Nikki will fall into the creative’s trap of meaningless divas tag matches every week as part of their grand “revolution.”
Prediction – Charlotte retains
John Cena vs??? for the United States Championship
John Cena holds his US Open Challenge at a PPV for the first time, and this is the only title change that will occur at Hell in a Cell. It’s no secret that Cena is taking time off after the event for personal reasons, so he’s almost guaranteed to be leaving his title behind. Originally, I had predicted an NXT call up to come and take the title, but given Tyler Breeze has just been promoted and seems to be heading towards a feud with Dolph Ziggler, I have changed my mind. There’s also a possibility something huge happens and a complete shock takes the challenge, but, because his match has been cancelled, I think Dean Ambrose will accept and win the title.
Prediction – Dean Ambrose accepts the challenge, wins, and becomes the new US champion
Seth Rollins vs Demon Kane for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship
For me personally, I’ve enjoyed the split personality story involving Kane. It’s been something different and has given a boost to the Kane character that was losing all its appeal. In the meantime, it has made Seth Rollins look even weaker than before, but that’s how his whole title run has been booked so I am fine with that. The added stipulation of Corporate Kane losing his job if Demon Kane loses was a smart move to put that extra little bit of incentive for Kane. I don’t think Kane will win though. I think Rollins will beat Kane by a flukey roll up or Kane getting himself disqualified, leaving Kane to spend the next few months solely as the demon monster that he should have always been.
Prediction – Seth Rollins retains
The first Hell in a Cell match and the first non-title match on the main card. In the build up, I thought we were on for an absolute collision between the entire Wyatt Family and Reigns, Ambrose and whoever else they could collect to take them down. I thought we would get a six man tag match inside the Cell to end the whole feud. Instead, we’ve just got these two, who will put on a brutal match but the match itself just doesn’t seem that appealing instead of having more carnage. From this point, WWE should make Hell in a Cell Bray Wyatt’s match. Just like with the Undertaker, every time Bray enters the Cell, he decimates his opponent and leaves them a mess. That’s what I believe is the best booking. What do I think will happen though? Reigns overcomes and wins.
Prediction – Roman Reigns wins
Brock Lesnar vs The Undertaker inside Hell in a Cell
The final chapter in the trilogy between the beast and the Phenom. With one win apiece and this being built to be their final ever encounter, Hell in a Cell is the perfect environment to slug it out. It will be two heavyweights going at it to try and end this feud with the positive record. The winner of this match is dependent on where both men go next. If Lesnar is going to resume his world title chase, then he’s got to win to still seem as dominant as ever. If his title chase is being saved for the Royal Rumble match, then it can wait. On the other hand, if the Undertaker is heading towards a rumoured retirement after Wrestlemania next year, then it’s fitting to have him begin that journey by finally defeating Lesnar without any controversy. I think the Deadman will finally conquer the beast.
Prediction – The Undertaker wins
Do you agree with my predictions? Do you think Brock Lesnar will conquer the Undertaker again? Do you think Kane, or even maybe Sheamus, finally end Seth Rollins’ world title run? Comment below or let me know on twitter @carlo_george
