Three weeks after the rather disappointing PPV, “Battleground,” WWE attempts to prevent fans demanding refunds with “Hell In A Cell,” which airs this Sunday, October 27th. The PPV takes place in Miami, FL, at the American Airlines Arena. The main gimmick for this PPV is the infamous match, Hell in the Cell. In this PPV, two main matches are fought in a 30 foot high steel cage. In this year’s edition, the WWE Championship between Randy Orton and Daniel Bryan with Shawn Michaels as Special Referee, and CM Punk vs Ryback and Paul Heyman will be fought in the Hell In The Cell match.
I wonder if Cena is REALLY 100%. I hope he is not being rushed back, because Daniel Bryan, in their eyes, has not caught on fast enough. Well, if that is the case, it is their own faults. They had Triple and Stephanie constantly belittling him? At the same time, the show was all about THEM? I thought WWE was supposed to concentrate on the stars of the future, not to rehash a tired old angle from over a decade ago.
I mean, here is Stephanie McMahon and her husband humiliating the Big Show, when they could be elevating Bryan, and doing a way better job. Triple H’s peculiar promo, especially burying a legend who can’t physically defend himself, at the end of the go home RAW did not help matters either. Anyway, here comes Cena to save the PPV. At least, WWE hopes so.
I am here to write my preview and prediction blog for Sunday. I will do the best I can with this. The way WWE booking has been lately, I would not be surprised at anything they do. Enjoy.
Pre-Show Match: Intercontinental Championship Match: Curtis Axel (C) vs Big E. Langston
To paraphrase Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Pete Seeger, where has the prestige of the Intercontinental Championship gone? I mean, this is how low it has gotten. I keep harping on this, but call me old school. I remember the days when the IC belt was a very important belt. It used to be defended regularly, and was a stepping stone for the Championship. I guess it doesn’t matter anymore. No use wasting my breath here.
The feud between Langston and Curtis Axel appeared to have been thrown together. I see Langston as an up and coming star. I think he has really improved in the ring over time. I really like him a lot. Axel, I am afraid, has not done much for me. I really don’t know if he is trying to be his dad, or what, but he just bores me. I don’t see a lot of improvement in the ring either from him either. He barely wrestles on TV.
Prediction: I don’t think this will be a barn burner. I think this will be just a nice, little opening match. I don’t see anything special. There won’t be a title change either. Winner: Curtis Axel retains.
WWE Divas Championship Match: A.J. Lee (C) vs Brie Bella
The buildup to this match has been just alright. It was fine. Again, I think with the return of “Total Divas” on November 10th approaching, that is why Brie Bella is being given this huge push. I do wonder if the fact that Brie and her real life boyfriend, Daniel Bryan are both going for Championship Gold is a factor here. It would be interesting if one had a belt, and the other didn’t, and knowing Vince, he’d take a real life situation , and make an angle out of it. It’s not like he hasn’t done that before.
I would like to know what Tamina is doing in this feud. Is she going to try to help A.J. Lee keep her belt? Is she going to turn on Lee? This is about the only thing interesting about this feud. This match is weird because it is a heel vs heel match, unless Brie turns babyface in the match.
Prediction: This will be another 4 minute match that the women usually get. I don’t expect a great match. I just hope it will be decent. I think there may be a title change. Winner: Brie Bella.
WWE Tag Team Championship: Rhodes & Goldust (C) vs. Rollins & Reigns vs. The Usos
The Raw after Battleground, the newly rehired Rhodes & Goldust defeated Rollins & Reigns in a NO DQ match to win the Tag belts. That match itself was very good. Since then, the two teams have gone back and forth both physically and verbally. On the go home RAW, the Usos wanted to fight for their shot at the Tag belts against Rollins and Reigns, and after all three tag teams (Goldust and Rhodes were at commentary) had a brawl, it was decided that no one won the match.
We now have a three way between the teams. This should be a very good match. I honestly think the match should have been kept between Rollins & Reigns and Goldust & Rhodes, as I feel the Usos where thrown in at the last minute. Yes, the Usos are the #1 contenders, but I think WWE should have let the Rhodes Team finish their business with the Rollins & Reigns team, and then move on to the Usos. That is just my opinion. All three teams will work hard to put on an excellent match. Prediction: Rhodes and Goldust retain their championships.
The Real Americans vs Los Matadores
Let me say that I have no use for either of these teams. One team, the Real Americans features their leader, Zeb Colter spewing crap that if I wanted to hear political junk, I’d turn on Fox News. The other team, Los Matadores, features two guys who are emphasizing stereotypes. They also feature some dude in a bull outfit. I will give Cesaro of the Real Americans credit for having quite a bit of talent. I am just sorry he is stuck in this gimmick that is going nowhere.
I have no interest in this feud. It sounds to me that it was thrown together, just to have Zeb Colter spew more hate, and such. I mean, seriously? I watch wrestling to be ENTERTAINED, not to listen to politics. I will watch Fox News, MSNBC, or CNN, if I want to hear political grandstanding.
I also can’t stand those Los Matadores. I mean, can’t WWE do without the stereotyping? I mean, they have no imagination at all? I just think it is lame. I don’t think this will be a great match at all. I honestly wish neither team wins, but there has to be some sort of finish. Prediction: Los Matadores win.
WWE World Heavyweight Championship: Alberto Del Rio (C) vs the returning John Cena
I admit I wanted Del Rio to drop that WHC. I also admit that I have said Del Rio is boring, and has no charisma as champion. I admit to everything I have said, and then some. I want that belt off of Del Rio in the worst way. I was NOT happy that he was fighting RVD, who I also thought was boring as hell.
Now, that RVD is taking his time off, WHO does WWE come up with an opponent? They come up with SUPERMAN JOHN CENA. I am just shaking my head. I guess, because WWE failed to build up anyone else (it’s their own fault) for Del Rio, they have John Cena, who miraculously heals from his injury, as Del Rio’s opponent.
Evidently, Cena’s triceps tear was a partial tear, so he didn’t need as much time as feared. However, I hope that Cena is not being rushed before he is really ready. Being cleared to play does not mean an athlete is 100% ready to go. I hope that Cena will be alright in wrestling the match. I am not a big fan of the man, but I respect his hard work, and I respect him as a human being.
As for the match itself, I do not think there will be any fireworks. I just hope this will be a decent match. I suspect the match will be kept to about 15 minutes, or so. One scenario is that Del Rio latches on that arm breaker on Cena’s bad arm, and retains. The other is that Cena withstands a couple of arm breaker attempts, and becomes Super Cena and wins. I am thinking the latter. Prediction: John Cena becomes the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion.
Hell In A Cell Match: CM Punk vs Ryback and Paul Heyman
This feud has been very interesting, and very entertaining. CM Punk and Paul Heyman deserve just about all the credit. Heyman has been great in his verbiage, and also being so cunning in his trying to outwit Punk. Heyman usually succeeded. I just loved it when Heyman was on the scooter, and lured Punk out of the ring, just to have Ryback and Axel beat up Punk. Punk got his licks in also.
The question about this match is whether Punk FINALLY gets his hands on Heyman once and for all. Well, Hell In The Cell Matches are the types of matches where feuds usually end. I suspect Curtis Axel will try to either come through the cage, or already be under the ring,as, Paul Heyman will have some sort of plan to win. I just do not think it will work this time. Prediction: CM Punk finally gets his hands on Heyman. Winner: Punk.
Hell In A Cell Match: WWE Championship: Randy Orton vs Daniel Bryan with Shawn Michaels as Special Guest Referee
As I said earlier in the blog, the build up to the entire PPV, but particularly in this match, has been all about the McMahons. I just think that is sad, because both these participants, Randy Orton and Daniel Bryan, have had very good to excellent matches together. I thought the buildup should have been about these two wrestlers, not about Triple H and Stephanie McMahon. I really do not understand WWE booking sometimes.
This match is supposed to finally decide whether Randy Orton or Daniel Bryan will be the WWE Championship. Why do I have a sick feeling it won’t? The wild card is Shawn Michaels, who is on screen, and in real life, Triple H’s best friend. Michaels also trained Daniel Bryan. What an interesting dilemma for Michaels to be in.
I am expecting this to very good match. Daniel Bryan and Randy Orton will put on a very good match, as usual. I hope there won’t be a ton of interference, and I hope it doesn’t take away from the match. I think Shawn Michaels will super kick someone. The question is who will be at the end of that foot? Prediction: Shawn Michaels kicks Triple H, and counts 1-2-3 and raises Daniel Bryan’s hand in victory, and Bryan will be the WWE Champion.
Thank you for reading, and enjoy the PPV.
