This Sunday, May 4, 2014, the 2014 edition of the WWE special event Extreme rules will be emanating from the Izod Center in East Rutherford, New Jersey. This special event involves dangerous gimmick matches. Some matches are a Steel Cage match, a TLC match, or an “I Quit” match. In this year’s event, there will be a Steel Cage match, and a TLC match (if one can call it that), and other kinds. Some of the highlights of this year’s special event are the return of Evolution, a rematch between John Cena and Bray Wyatt, and defending World/WWE Unified Champion Daniel Bryan putting up his belt against Kane.
Pre Show: El Torito (with Diego and Fernando) vs Hornswoggle (with Drew McIntyre, Heath Slater, and Jinder Mahal) in a WeeLC Match
I am so excited about this match. I so can’t wait to see this 5 star masterpiece. I mean, why isn’t this on the special event? Obviously, I am dripping with sarcasm. Why should we be subjected to this ridiculous crap? I’d like to know who these workers ticked off backstage. Who wants to see Hornswoggle as a heel? He’s a character for the kids. This El Torito act, in my opinion, plays to a stereotype. I am not into it.
Prediction: I don’t know what kind of match this is going to be. I don’t think it will be any good. Seeing two small wrestlers trying to be extreme is going to look stupid.
Winner: El Torito, as there has to be a winner.
Intercontinental Title: Big E. Langston (C) vs Bad News Barrett
Ever since Big E. Langston became Intercontinental Champion, it appeared to me like WWE treated his reign like an afterthought. I thought that Langston was going to get a good push. For whatever reason, it didn’t happen. He did have some minor feuds with Ryback and others. I just never felt like WWE was serious about pushing Langston.
That being said, over the last few weeks, there has been a tournament for the Number One Contender for the IC Title. Contestants included Dolph Ziggler, Sheamus, a returning Rob Van Dam, and the two former comrades in the We The People tandem, Jack Swagger and Cesaro. One other contestant was Bad New Barrett. Thanks to interference from both former We The People members, Bad New Barrett eventually won the tournament in the Finals over RVD.
At first, I wasn’t sure about this new gimmick for Barrett. After all, when he was the leader of the Nexus, and the Corre, it looked like he was on his way to being a top guy. At one point, he was in a top program with John Cena. Sadly, he suffered a terrible arm injury, which put him out for awhile. Now, he’s in this gimmick which I think should go to a new character, not someone who is already known. However, I’m going to give the gimmick a chance.
Prediction: I’m not expecting a technical masterpiece. I suspect that these two men will give us an all out brawl. I am thinking that they may change the title here. Therefore, I think Barrett will have some bad news for Langston.
Winner: Bad New Barrett, who will be the new Intercontinental Champion.
Triple Threat: RVD vs Jack Swagger vs Cesaro
The back story of this match started ar Wrestlemania 30, when the two members of We The People, Jack Swagger and Cesaro split up. Manager Zeb Colter was not happy. Even worse, Cesaro would go on to with the Inaugural Andre the Giant Memorial Trophy at Wrestlemania 30. To Colter’s horror, Cesaro signed up with Paul Heyman, whose other client, Brock Lesnar (just in case you haven’t heard) broke Undertaker’s Wrestlemania Streak. Anyway, as I have stated earlier, Rob Van Dam returned to WWE in the IC Tournament. RVD, Swagger, and Cesaro have been feuding against each other ever since.
Prediction: I’m thinking that we should get a very good match from this trio. All three are good workers. I also expect the two managers to get involved. I also expect someone to go for a ride with the King of Swing. I hope it’s Zeb Colter, personally. He is just asking for it.
Steel Cage Match: John Cena vs Bray Wyatt
This is the rematch that I am very interested in seeing. John Cena drew first blood. I am interested in seeing if Wyatt can even the score. The buildup to this match has been outstanding. I love Bray Wyatt. I love his promos. He is a really creepy dude. I loved what WWE did with the children’s choir. It showed how depraved a mind Wyatt had. I mean, to indoctrinate children with his sick beliefs, is just nuts. What John Cena will do, and will he once again conquer Wyatt, will be interesting to see.
Prediction: The two had a very good match at Wrestlemania 30. I think both of these two will have another good one at Extreme Rules as well. The fact that it is in a Steel Cage will create a creepy atmosphere that Wyatt could use to his advantage. I am thinking that Wyatt will go over with the even steven booking. I know Cena is the money machine, but I think he needs to put Wyatt over.
Winner: Bray Wyatt
WWE Diva’s Title: Paige (C) vs Tamina Snuka
The history of this match goes back to the RAW which took place the night after Wrestlemania 30, where then Diva’s Champion AJ Lee (who successfully defended her title at WM30) asked for a challenger. Out came NXT Diva’s Champion Paige. AJ Lee puts her title on the line, and the two have a match. Paige not only wins the match, but the WWE Diva’s Title. On NXT, JBL, NXT GM strips Paige of the NXT Diva’s Title, and Paige is solely the WWE Diva’s Champion. Paige and Tamina Snuka have been having matches on TV, so the two women will be fighting for the Title on the special event.
Prediction: I’m am suspecting that this match will be kept short. Most women’s matches are kept short. I like Paige quite a bit. She’s a very good worker. It is about time that WWE improves the Diva Diva Division. I like Tamina as well. I think this will be good, short match. As Paige just became champion, I think she’ll retain.
Six Man Tag Team Match Evolution vs the Shield
The build up to this match has been awesome. Triple H, as The Authority, had the Shield as the Authority’s enforcement. Well, as things progressed, it worked for awhile. However, Corporate Kane was having his issues with the Shield. I mean, poor Kane. He had to do what he could to make sure that then WWE World Unified Champion Randy Orton remained champion. Royal Rumble winner (right from the couch) Batista was going to be the new Champ (until the crowd rebelled, and rightly so).
Obviously, trouble was brewing in paradise.
When Daniel Bryan became Champion at Mania 30, Batista and Orton were not happy. Triple H was not too pleased, so at the RAW that took place the day after WM30, Triple H challenged the new champ to a title match. During the match, not only did Orton and Batista make a run in, but so did the Shield. Orton and Batista saved Hunter. I was wondering if Evolution, one of my favorite factions was getting back together. Sure enough, Evolution got back together.
Even though they’re down to a trio, I am loving the rebirth of Evolution. Of course, we all know that Ric Flair, an original member, turned his back on the group by praising the Shield this past Monday night, but I can’t wait to see the three guys put on a show. It will be great seeing the old guard taking on the young guns.
Prediction: This should be one of the best worked matches on the card. All six guys are fairly decent (Batista) to top of the line workers (Triple H, Randy Orton). I am aware of a rumor that Batista may take time off to push his upcoming film. I don’t know if that’s been confirmed. Anyway, I am thinking that the Shield should go over. Of course, my logic and WWE logic are like oil and water.
Winner: The Shield
2 on 1 Match : Alexander Rusev vs Xavier Woods and R Truth
For me, this match would be the bathroom break. I have no interest in this match. I wonder why this is even on the card. I am all for pushing new guys, but give this guy better opponents. I know that they have to get a big guy over with squash matches, but this belongs on RAW or Smackdown.
Prediction: I don’t care one way or another. I am expecting a fairly quick squash match. The feud, if you can call it that, between Rusev and Woods and R Truth is lackluster. I guess it will be placed after one of the more exciting matches.
Winner: Alexander Rusev
Extreme Rules WWE World Heavyweight Championship Match: Daniel Bryan (C) vs Kane
However, the Authority is going to rain on the new champ’s parade. I guess they had to do it. They didn’t want him to be champion, and they hate the “Yes” Movement. Stephanie McMahon has the newlyweds in the ring and tells Bryan that his opponent at Extreme Rules is Kane. Well, Kane’s music hits, and Stephanie tells him not to come out. Well, Kane came out, and wrecked havoc on Daniel Bryan, eventually giving the champ a stinger. Despite Stephanie’s supposed pleas, Kane would not stop. I say “supposed,” because let’s face it, does anyone really think that Stephanie really wanted Kane to stop?
Prediction: I think Daniel Bryan is going to need his carrying shoes. I don’t think this will be a 5 star classic, but I think Bryan can get a pretty decent match out of Kane. I am sure that Brie, who Kane has been terrorizing, will be involved. I would not be surprised if anyone sympathetic to the Authority would make a run in either. I still think Bryan retains.
Winner: Daniel Bryan
