WWE goes extreme for the first time in 2014 this Sunday in my home state of New Jersey for the Extreme Rules pay-per-view. No shocker then that I will be in attendance. Interesting side story before I get to the predictions.
WeeLC Kickoff Pre-show Match
El Torito vs. Hornswoggle
WWE loves these comedic midgets so much, making it not surprising at all that El Torito and Hornswoggle are in the kickoff match. While I don’t care for the feud, I will give WWE credit. The kick off match is based on actual feud going on WWE programming. Unlike those random Damien Sandow or Dolph Ziggler matches we got in the past. Regardless the reason, I see WWE giving the win to El Torito since he is the fan favorite.
Prediction: El Torito wins
R-Truth and Xavier Woods vs. Alexander Rusev
I will not spend more than a couple sentences on this. I am surprised it wasn’t an impromptu match and it was actually announced in advance. All I can say is Rusev crush. Rusev will win.
Prediction: Alexander Rusev wins
Triple Threat Elimination Match
Rob Van Dam vs. Cesaro vs. Jack Swagger
The feud between Cesaro and Swagger is a nice, interesting story for Cesaro to be involved with before he really breaks out into a main event star. Rob Van Dam’s inclusion? Not in love with it. It’s sort of interesting only because of RVD’s history with Paul Heyman. However, this story should be more about Cesaro and Swagger. Then again, I always have a hard time investing in part-timer’s feuds. If WWE wants to push the right guy to win here, it’s got to be Cesaro.
Prediction: Cesaro wins
WWE Divas Title Match
Tamina Snuka vs. Paige
Does anyone think Tamina Snuka is actually going to win this? It’s not an interesting feud. It should be Paige vs. AJ Lee in a rematch. AJ has supposedly requested time off so WWE didn’t have anyone else to fill in the place, but Snuka. AJ also has history with Tamina as her bodyguard so I wouldn’t mind seeing a triple threat match in the future with all three Divas. In any case, Paige is just starting her huge run so she can’t lose.
Prediction: Paige retains
WWE Intercontinental Title Match
Bad News Barrett vs. Big E
Does it bother anyone else that Big E was never present during the Intercontinental title tournament? This could have been built so much better. Instead, I will be shocked if Bad News Barrett doesn’t win. He has been pushed for a while again. Although he has gotten pushes in the past, this time it’s different. He has a great gimmick. It always helps having a catchphrase. Fans love catchphrases. So sorry Big E, but I am afraid I’ve got some bad news…
Prediction: Bad News Barrett wins the Intercontinental title
side note: I saw Barrett win the same title the night after WrestleMania. Where? Izod Center in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Same place as WWE Extreme Rules 2014.
Steel Cage Match
John Cena vs. Bray Wyatt
Two of WWE’s biggest stars are really impressing as they should be. Although it is not the main event of Extreme Rules, it is certainly a sub main event. Raw’s best segment this past week was the opener with Wyatt’s children’s choir. While Cena may have won at WrestleMania, I think part of the reason the feud continued was to get Wyatt a win.
Prediction: Bray Wyatt wins
Triple H, Batista and Randy Orton vs. Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose
The Evolution of WWE factions should be the tagline of this six man tag match. The Shield take on one of their toughest challenges in the form of Evolution. This should be a great match wrestling wise. I think what makes the most sense is for Evolution put the Shield over. Triple H, Orton and Batista don’t need to win. The Shield are still top babyfaces and while it looked like they were breaking at one point, that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore.
Prediction: The Shield wins
Extreme Rules Match for the WWE World Heavyweight Title Match
Kane vs. Daniel Bryan
Prediction: Daniel Bryan retains
