WWE Elimination Chamber 2014 Preview and Predictions

The Road to WWE WrestleMania has one more big stop this Sunday at the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view, live from Minneapolis, Minnesota. The event is headlined by the chamber match involving six of the top stars in the company today trying to be the champ who faces Royal Rumble winner Batista at WrestleMania 30. Just as I do each month, let’s break down each scheduled match starting with the kickoff.

Kickoff Match: Cody Rhodes and Goldust vs. Ryback and Curtis Axel

The kickoff match will feature two of the tag teams in WWE today, including former champions and brothers Cody Rhodes and Goldust. This could be a pretty meaningless match where the Rhodes brothers win. The only exception is if WWE decides to use this last opportunity to set up a Cody vs. Goldy WrestleMania match. The reason I don’t think it is happening is there’s not enough time to build it up. This is a feud that should have started already in order to make it to WrestleMania. Therefore, I am sticking with this match being typical Rhodes win, Rybaxel loses.

Prediction: Cody Rhodes and Goldust win

Darren Young vs. Titus O’Neil

The team formerly known as the Prime Time Players will collide at Elimination Chamber when Darren Young tries to get his revenge against his former partner Titus O’Neil. This will hopefully be an entertaining match, but I think Titus has to win. He is the one being pushed of the two and I see a lot of potential in him. Young never interested me as he has poor mic skills and looks like a black John Cena. Titus has a great look and is very entertaining on the mic. Maybe they will even just shorten his name to Titus. That seems to be a trend in WWE lately.

Prediction: Titus O’Neil wins

WWE Tag Team Championship: New Age Outlaws © vs. The Usos

The tag titles will also be on the line Sunday when the old New Age Outlaws defend the gold against the up and coming Usos. There have been many times in the past that Rikishi’s sons have had opportunities to win the gold, but never got the win. Is there time now? This is a harder prediction than I originally thought. The Usos certainly deserve the titles and there is no reason for the Outlaws to win it. Some might think the Outlaws took the titles to transition them to the Usos. Then again, the Usos won their matches recently on TV, which usually means they are losing on Sunday. I will go with who I want to see win and that is the Usos.

Prediction: The Usos win and become NEW tag team champions

WWE Intercontinental Championship: Big E © vs. Jack Swagger

No longer a Langston, Big E will defend the Intercontinental title against one of the tow Real Americans Jack Swagger. This match suggests that Swagger is just another rung on the ladder for Big E. The Intercontinental Champion has defeated the majority of the midcard heels. Someone mentioned to me the idea that Swagger could win and lead to a match against Cesaro at WrestleMania. Now, I am a huge fan of Cesaro and could certainly see him becoming champion at WrestleMania. However, Big E losing to Swagger would hurt him too much. Big E has been built super strong as champion, while Swagger has basically been a jobber. I am all for a Big E-Cesaro match at Mania, but he can’t lose the title to a Jack Swagger.

Prediction: Big E retains

Batista vs. Alberto Del Rio

This is the match I am least interested in come Sunday. Batista’s run has been just as boring as Del Rio’s character. It’s obvious that this is just an opportunity to give Batista a PPV match prior to WrestleMania. Del Rio is the scapegoat in the situation and given his past, I don’t like the choice. Their feud began prior to Royal Rumble with trash talking on WWE TV and social media. I have nothing more to say other than I hope this match isn’t too long.

Prediction: Batista wins

The Shield vs. The Wyatt Family

This is the match I am most looking forward to other than the chamber match. The two most dominant young up and coming factions in a six man tag match is a WWE fan’s dream come true. However, I think the outcome could be obvious. The Shield is slowly splitting up and this could be the final straw. Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose are not seeing eye to eye and that will only help the Wyatt Family. I don’t see any scenario where the Wyatts lose this match. Bray is coming off a win against Daniel Bryan at the Rumble and WWE should look to continue to keep his momentum going heading into WrestleMania. Look for miscommunication among the Shield and a Wyatt win.

Prediction: The Wyatt Family wins

WWE World Heavyweight Championship: Randy Orton © vs. Sheamus vs. Christian vs. John Cena vs. Cesaro vs. Daniel Bryan

Randy Orton has a big challenge ahead of him in this Elimination Chamber match for the top prize, or prizes, in the WWE. He has recent foes John Cena and Daniel Bryan hungry to get their titles back. Meanwhile, you have veterans Sheamus and Christian who would love to return to the main event. Finally, Cesaro is the man to watch in this match as fans and management are beginning to really appreciate his talent. As much as I want to see anyone other than Randy Orton to win, I am not too optimistic. I could definitely see Orton winning and facing Batista at WrestleMania, even though I don’t want to see it. The one question mark here is Brock Lesnar. I fully expected Lesnar to be in the title match at Elimination Chamber. The show is in his hometown and he had spent a number of weeks talking about becoming champion. Could he take out a superstar prior to the match and take his place? Could he challenge the winner right afterwards? It’s hard to say.

Prediction: Randy Orton retains OR Brock Lesnar leaves WWE World Heavyweight Champion.

Who do you think will win each match at Elimination Chamber? Who will leave WWE World Heavyweight Champion? Please share your thoughts and predictions below.
