John Cena pinned CM Punk to win the RAW Elimination Chamber match and a match with the WWE champion. John Cena vs. The Miz will headline WrestleMania 27 for the WWE championship. Edge vs. Alberto Del Rio will headline for the SmackDown brand.
Cena, CM Punk, and John Morrison were the final three in the RAW Elimination Chamber match. Morrison went nuts tonight with crazy spot after crazy spot including dropping from the top of the chamber onto Sheamus for a pinfall. Punk nailed Morrison with a GTS and was immediately met by Cena who hit an Attitude Adjustment on Punk to the outside for the final pin and the WrestleMania 27 main-event.
They did a weird spot with CM Punk. The ref had a hard time opening Punk’s door. Randy Orton capitalized and wound up attacking Punk with his door half open. He then hit him with the RKO and pinned Punk quickly. The GM chimed in and stated that since Punk wasn’t given a fair chance that the elimination would not count and Punk was sent back to the chamber. Punk wound up eliminating Orton immediately after his second chance with the GTS to a big pop. Surprisingly Orton was the second elimination of the match behind R-Truth. Punk was definitely the crowd favorite in this one.
It was a very good match but had a real tough task of following the SmackDown match. The SmackDown match just blew this one away in my opinion. This wasn’t a bad match by any means, but overshadowed in my opinion by one of the best Elimination Chamber matches of all time courtesy of the SmackDown brand.
Alberto Del Rio jumped Edge after the match only to be cut off by the returning Christian. I know there are a lot of fans hoping this somehow sets up Edge vs. Christian down the line but I wouldn’t hold your breath. This appears the annual Christian tease that the WWE looks to pull around WrestleMania time. It would be nice to see one of these teases pay off.
The Miz defeated Jerry Lawler and retained the WWE championship. Lawler was super over with the crowd and got a standing ovation before and after the match. Great sell by Lawler looking dejected and telling the fans he was sorry following the match. No interference from Michael Cole. I was really hoping for a one or two week Lawler title reign here but no luck.
This was a decent show but the results were just way too predictable in my opinion. Cena and Edge were such obvious winners that it would have been nice to see them throw fans a swerve and change things up like they did last year. While it wouldn’t have made much sense for anyone but Cena to win the RAW match, I would have loved to see them shake things up by having Rey win the SmackDown match and go with Rey vs. Alberto Del Rio at WrestleMania 27. Other than the predictability and a pure Wrestlecrap moment with Trish Stratus, it was a pretty decent show. The SmackDown match alone makes this a better than average WWE pay per view.
