WWE legend Hulk Hogan has gotten a fair amount of support from the wrestling world since being busted for racist remarks on video. One Hall of Famer who isn’t supporting him is Bret Hart and it should surprise nobody.
Hart was asked whether Hogan will ever be back in the WWE.
“Let’s hope not. Let’s really hope that he lives with himself in Tampa and stays there in his little world in idol worship of himself. I’m not a big Hulk Hogan fan. I kind of feel bad for him because I don’t necessarily remember him being a racist, but ya know, I can say that through my experience that the vast majority, of course not all of them, but the vast majority of the white Southern wrestlers tend to be a little bit racial all the time and the N-word was frequently used in the dressing room when a black guy wasn’t around. As being a Canadian, I found that really difficult, I didn’t see eye-to-eye with that kind of stuff, and I’ve never felt like that and I’ve never been in that kind of mindset.”
Hart continued and spoke specifically about southern wrestlers…
“I can say that, through my experience, that a vast majority, of course not all of them, but a vast majority of the white, Southern wrestlers tend to be a little bit racial all the time, and the N-word was frequently used by a lot of wrestlers in the dressing room when there was a black guy not around, kinda thing.”
Hart’s most explosive allegation however had little to do about racism and more about Hulk’s character in regards to the recent death of Roddy Piper.
“I’m kind of glad he got busted for that reason that times have changed and you have to answer for that stuff, and he’s answering for it. He’s probably glad that Roddy Piper passed away because it took all the edge off all that.”
So what does Hart really think of the Hulkster?
“Do I like Hulk Hogan? No I don’t. I think he’s a phony piece of sh*t.”
Ouch! I think it is fair to say that the most explosive thing Hart said about Hogan was the comment about Piper. Piper, it should be noted, was the first major pro wrestling name to come out and support Hulk after the transcripts were published. Hulk responded to this allegation on Twitter.
It did appear that Piper and Hogan had a good friendship in recent years. Piper talked about texting with Hulk often on his old podcasts. Bret is certainly entitled to his opinions, but that one may have been a little below the belt.
