This Sunday, October 6th, from the First Niagara Center, in Buffalo, NY, WWE will debut their new PPV, Battleground. With all the lackluster push that the PPV has gotten, I honestly forgot that there is going to be a PPV this Sunday. I didn’t notice much push concerning the new PPV. I didn’t get any impression what Battleground was supposed to be about.
I got the impression that the company was putting together matches, and telling viewers that a PPV is on Sunday, and expecting people to watch. I don’t think it works that way.
[adinserter block=”1″]On paper, the PPV looks like a one or two match show. I honestly don’t think I am all that interested in buying it. However, that is not my job. My job here is to give my readers my predictions of whom I think will win the matches on the card. I am sure there will be surprise matches. I don’t know why they do that. People had already bought the PPV. It is not like you can jump in the middle of the show, and buy it.
Anyway, here are my predictions:
The Kickoff Match: Dolph Ziggler vs. Damien Sandow
Why is this match not on the PPV? Is Ziggler still in the doghouse over his comments? What has happened to Damien Sandow? Has WWE forgotten that Sandow has the MITB briefcase? Sometimes, I don’t understand what goes through the minds of WWE Creative. They just frustrate me to no end.
Here, you have Ziggler who can put on a very good match with anyone. Sandow has the briefcase. Why is WWE not using them well? What happened to Sandow and his “uncrowned champion” bit? I know Cody was separated from him, but why hasn’t WWE done something else with Sandow?
As for the match, I suspect it should be a good match. It is very frustrating to me to see two talents who should be on the PPV in some sort of feud, opening the show. I really don’t have a strong opinion on who will win the match. I am going to say that Sandow wins, as he has the briefcase. Winner: Sandow
Divas Championship: A.J. Lee (C) vs. Brie Bella
Let me get this match out of the way. I like A.J. a lot. She is probably one of my favorite Divas on the roster, along with Natalya (why Nattie is not getting the shot, I don’t know). However, and I know, the Diva division is not much. as far as capable workers, but A.J. needs to feud with the other Divas.
I know WWE is pushing the “Total Divas” show, but is Brie Bella the ONLY Diva A.J. can wrestle? What happened to Kaitlyn, the former champ? How about giving some of the other Divas, especially Natalya a shot? Natalya is on “Total Divas.” Natalya is a Hart family member. Natalya also can wrestle.
After Beth Phoenix retired, and Karma (Awesome Kong) left, Natalya is the only Diva on this roster that can have a good match with A.J. I mean, seriously. I don’t know why Natalya is stuck with the Great Khali and Hornswoggle. What a waste of talent, and a real shame, if you ask me.
I think the match will be the usual Diva match. The two women will get their 4 minutes. I hate it when fans call the Diva matches, the “bathroom break,” because these women do work very hard, like the men. I think there may be a title change. Winner: Brie Bella
CM Punk vs. Ryback
CM Punk has been really up against it. Punk wants to kick Paul Heyman’s butt so badly, but no luck. Every time Punk gets close, or even lays a hand on Heyman, out come Ryback and Curtis Axel. It has to be frustrating for Punk. I get frustrated too, as a fan, because Heyman is so good playing that slime ball, even I want to see Heyman get his butt kicked, only to see the effort thwarted.
That being said, I know Vince loves the big guys, but I don’t know why Ryback is getting this huge push. Sure, Heyman works well as Ryback’s mouth piece. My thing is, what else does Ryback have to offer? All Ryback does, pretty much is power moves. I really don’t see much more potential with him. Will Ryback ever develop mic skills? That is one thing about him, that I am concerned about.
I am sure Punk will get a pretty good match out of him, but I just don’t think Ryback will be able to have good to great matches like many big men have had. Guys like the late Yokozuna and Batista come to mind. Even the late Umaga was able to hold his own in a good match.
CM Punk was not able to get his full revenge on Heyman at “Night of Champions.” I really don’t see Punk getting his revenge at this PPV either. I am sure that both Heyman and Axel will do some interfering. Punk will get his revenge, but I don’t think it is his time yet. Winner: Ryback
Intercontinental Championship: Curtis Axel (C) vs R-Truth
This match came from a seemingly last minute feud. I honestly have no interest in this match. Curtis Axel has barely defended the belt. I barely noticed him even wrestling on TV. The only times I have even noticed him was when Heyman came out to cut a promo.
It seemed to me that Axel got this huge push, and now, it just appears to me he is forgotten about. Now all of a sudden, in the past couple of weeks, the WWE remembers they have him on the roster, and they remember they have an Intercontinental Title, so this match is on the card.
Why R-Truth is the opponent, I have no idea. I like R-Truth for some comedy, or as a role player, but call me old fashioned, I thought the IC Title was for someone upcoming. At least that is what it USED to be used for, to elevate future champions.
I remember some of the greats, men like Shawn Michaels, Chris Jericho, Edge, Bret Hart, Randy Savage, Mr. Perfect, who wore that belt. That belt was important. Now, it seems like it has been forgotten, and is barely defended on Wrestlemania anymore.
I mean, couldn’t they have picked someone else instead of R-Truth to elevate? I just don’t see R-Truth as Intercontinental Champion material. I don’t think he will win either. This match will just be passable, at best. Curtis Axel is alright in the ring. I think Axel will retain. Winner: Curtis Axel
Gold Dust and Cody Rhodes vs WWE Tag Team Champions Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns (If Cody Rhodes and Goldust win, they get their jobs, and their father’s (Dusty Rhodes) job back. If they lose, they never get their jobs back)
I have said in past prediction blogs, that the Corporation angle is starting to get stale, due to both HHH, and Stephanie not selling, or letting any of their victims get their heat back. This is another example of this.
Why is Stephanie so involved? She is not going to get her butt kicked. Trust me, I would love it, if Cody Rhodes gave her the Crossrhodes, but I don’t think that is going to happen. Sure, some are blaming HHH for this angle, but Vince McMahon is the one who gives the green light on everything, so I hope he will somehow remember that the bad guys have to get their butts kicked also.
I am also bothered by the whole set up. We all know that Cody Rhodes is not really “fired.” Rhodes is still a WWE Superstar. He was written off to get married. I figured they would bring in Goldust to try to get the “job” back, and such. However, I am really tired of the tired “humiliating the legend” routine. I mean, having the crybaby Big Show knock out Dusty Rhodes? Really? It is getting old, in my opinion.
As for the match, I think we are going to get a pretty good match. In that match that Goldust had with Randy Orton, it looked like to me that Goldust still had plenty in the tank. The Tag Champions, Rollins and Reigns are capable of a good match as well.
I do wonder what roles the frustrated Big Show will play, or be forced to play. Will Dusty Rhodes play a part as well? Will Triple H or Stephanie do “what’s best for business?” This match is tough to call. Logic says the Rhodes should win, but WWE logic is very different. Winner: I will say the Goldust/Cody Rhodes.
World Championship Match: Alberto Del Rio (C) vs. RVD (Battleground Hardcore Rules Match)
Can we please end this feud? I do not have much to say about these two. This has been the most boring feud on the planet. The only thing that has made it slightly interesting is that the stipulation may make it easier for RVD to put on a better match.
I really don’t see what else these two guys can accomplish together. Please, WWE. End this. What else can I say? RVD puts me to sleep. Even with Ricardo Rodriquez, Rob Van Dam is just boring. The idea of him being champion would just make me skip his promos, and such.
As for the Champion, I will give WWE credit for trying to make Del Rio more vicious. When HHH told Van Dam that he had the rematch in the trainer’s room, and Del Rio attacked him, that was cool. Of course, that was HHH being the nasty boss also, as he was getting back at RVD for standing up against the Shield on Raw.
Nevertheless, Del Rio is just a boring character. I just do not care whether he wrestles in a Hardcore Rules match, a regular match, or a “Loser gets to be Gene Simmons’ valet for a day” match, the guy just is boring.
Both guys should put on a passable match. I am not expecting a five star classic at all. I hope this will end this feud. Perhaps they will give RVD the belt. I hope not, but I am thinking maybe Van Dam will get it. Winner: RVD.
WWE Championship Match: Randy Orton (C) vs. Daniel Bryan
[adinserter block=”2″]Well, Daniel Bryan has been jumping over so many hurdles, he must feel like a show horse. How much more does Bryan have to do to win the WWE Championship? He has been beaten up by the Shield. Per HHH’s edict, anyone who tries to help Bryan gets fired. Now, Randy Orton has become the Viper, Bryan has been constantly beaten to a pulp. It just seems impossible. This is starting to become very tiresome.
Again, it is due to the no selling by people in the Corporation. Why isn’t Bryan getting his digs in? Why can’t Bryan get back at this evil Corporation? What is the DEAL? Why is Bryan treated like a chump? It is so baffling to me. Again, it goes back to WWE Creative forgetting the Vince vs. Stone Cold feud. Both guys got their licks in. I really don’t understand this at all.
Of course, they think getting Bryan’s real life fiancee Brie Bella involved will get more heat. I guess that Total Divas show has to get more of a push. Sure, Brie’s involvement will get more heat, but seriously. I think WWE is getting too “inside,” if you ask me.
I do commend WWE for turning Randy Orton back to this vicious viper. For the past several months, Orton’s character seemed very dull, and lacked direction. It was great to see Randy beating up the Miz in front of Miz’ parents. It was great to see Orton showing no remorse. I am very happy to see Orton back to the nasty heel, all out for himself. I think WWE has done that right, and they should be praised for that.
I expect this match to be the Match of the Night. Both guys will put on a very good to excellent match. I expect a ton of interference from everyone. I wonder if Big Show will be the good soldier, or maybe he will punch out HHH in the big schmoz that I expect. I do get annoyed with screwy finishes, but that is what I expect. I also expect Randy Orton to once again retain his title. Winner: Randy Orton.
