The WWE Elimination Chamber 2014 is just a few hours away. This year’s event features only one championship match in the cage yet the possibility of an upset may be greater than ever leading into WrestleMania 30.
There is an obvious groundswell of support to see a change to the planned WrestleMania headliner featuring Randy Orton vs. Batista for the WWE championship. Would the WWE really change plans this close to New Orleans? I think it is possible and so does Las Vegas. Rather than give the standard predictions I thought I’d have a little fun and offer my picks up with betting odds.
Randy Orton vs. Sheamus vs Christian vs. John Cena vs. Cesaro vs. Daniel Bryan for the WWE world championship inside of the Elimination Chamber
Randy Orton – Orton is the obvious favorite here. Orton is in the plans to go to WrestleMania after the WWE have invested several months into elevating his character for the match. Orton has also been on a losing streak as part of the storyline. The chances of them beating Orton as part of this losing streak are very slim, although possible. I’d put my money on Orton but he is certainly far from a lock.
Daniel Bryan – Numerous reports have surfaced indicating that the WWE have considered turning the Batista vs. Orton match into a Triple Threat Match with Bryan. Whether this is just wishful thinking from a media base that are generally big Bryan fans or this is fact is another story. Something is obviously brewing if you pay close attention to the broadcasts. The announcers aren’t poking fun at Bryan as often as they used to and little has been made of his “mediocrity.” This tells me that they are planning to do something with him either at or after Mania. What better way to get him into the match than with a Chamber win?
John Cena – You can never discount Cena winning in a match this big, this close to WrestleMania. Something about the Cena vs. Bray Wyatt storyline still doesn’t seem right. It has traces of a swerve. I wouldn’t mind seeing another Cena vs. Batista match with Batista turning heel. I doubt it happens but you have to believe there is at least one writer trying to pitch Vince or Triple H on Cena winning. For that, he always has a shot.
Sheamus – This is where things start getting murky. While I honestly think that any of the above three have a shot of winning, I don’t know if anyone else has a chance. Sheamus is always a dark horse and it would appear that the WWE are trying to shoot him right back into a top spot. A Sheamus vs. Batista match on WrestleMania seems ridiculous, yet it isn’t entirely out of the realm of possibilities. I don’t see it but I would say in a year where the WWE are gambling on a network, anything is possible.
Cesaro – Now if you asked the vast majority of fans on the Internet who should win, Cesaro would be right up there with Bryan. Quite frankly the guy is awesome and always has been. I was hoping to see him in that Bray Wyatt spot against Cena at Mania. I do think there are big plans for him this year but they won’t be at WrestleMania. Next year may be a different story, at least I hope so.
