The 2012 WWE Elimination Chamber pay per view may be one of the most intriguing of the year. With a surprise Royal Rumble 2012 winner already in the books, anything can happen in the RAW WWE championship Elimination Chamber match.
Theses matches and pay per views can be very hit and miss. While most are misses in my opinion, last year’s was one of my favorite WWE events of 2011. The RAW chamber match had a nice balance of action and story, really setting the plate for WrestleMania 27. This year’s match has just as much potential, if not more.
I thought I’d have some fun and take a look at the chances that each top prospect has of winning the WWE championship match using Vegas odds. Of course take these odds for what you will as I had Sheamus listed as a 50-1 long shot of winning this year’s Royal Rumble. Nobody ever accused me of being a savvy handicapper.
[ad 6]For those of you unfamiliar with the Chamber match, six guys will compete inside of an enclosed cage. The match is wrestled under elimination rules and anyone can be pinned in the end to decide a new WWE champion. The match does not end until five men are eliminated by pin or submission.
Of course things can and likely will change from now until the event in terms of injuries, card placement, and even champions. With that said, let’s place some WWE bets!
C.M. Punk vs. Dolph Ziggler vs. Chris Jericho vs. Kofi Kingston vs. The Miz vs. R-Truth for the WWE Championship
Chris Jericho – This may surprise you but I am going with Chris Jericho as the RAW favorite to win the WWE championship. The obvious plan appears to be CM Punk vs. Chris Jericho at WrestleMania 28 for the WWE championship. We already saw Jericho kick off the angle this past Monday when he attacked Punk during his match with Daniel Bryan to start the feud. I think the feud takes a new twist with Punk challenging for his title in Miami.
CM Punk – Punk will probably be the favorite to win the match among most prognosticators. Punk has been on a roll and the company appears very committed to him this time around as champion. However, I am picking Jericho to win so I can’t make Punk a favorite as well. The WWE could play it safe and keep their champion as is going into WrestleMania 28, yet I still think they want to throw a new wrinkle into the Jericho-Punk feud. Although Punk retaining wouldn’t shock me at all.
The Miz – He’s The Miz and if I have to see him in another WWE championship match at WrestleMania I think I may just give up ordering WrestleMania events. I am not a fan, never have been, but I can understand the support he has among his many cult followers. Unfortunately for them, The Miz is being booked lately like a guy that has zero chance of winning this match. Thus, knowing the WWE and how they like to shake things up, it would not completely shock me to see them throw a curveball here and give The Miz another ticket to WrestleMania 28. Stranger things have happened.
Dolph Ziggler – Dolph is quickly developing a huge following of fans that have finally recognized how talented this guy is. It reminds me of watching Steve Austin in WCW in his early years and you know the guy is a great talent, yet he never gets elevated to where he should be. Losing five times at the Royal Rumble and then again the next night on RAW is no way to prepare this guy for a WWE championship match at WrestleMania 28. I’d love to see it, but it just doesn’t appear in the cards right now. I’d call him a long shot. Not an impossible long shot, but a fairly long shot to win the match, and that is unfortunate.
Kofi Kingston – Now we are getting into real long shot territory. I am a big Kofi fan and I would enjoy nothing more than watching this guy tear the house down in a WWE championship match at WrestleMania 28. Yet I don’t think that anyone on the WWE creative team feels the same way. Kofi is just starting to get a singles push and I do think at some point we could see Kofi in the title picture. April 1 however may be just a little too soon.
[adinserter block=”1″]R-Truth – Quite frankly I could see a case for any of the above mentioned guys winning the match. R-Truth winning would just blow my mind. I don’t get the R-Truth love yet I am fully aware that he has a big following of fans on the Internet. Like Kofi, I do think you’ll see Truth back in the title picture as nothing more than a guy to fill a spot on a B pay per view. But R-Truth going to WrestleMania 28 as the WWE champion would just blow my mind!
