30 Days of WrestleMania: Batista’s Time in the WWE Must be Short-lived

Could someone put out an APB on Batista? The “Animal” as we all knew and loved four years ago – a man on fire and intense as the day is long. Where has he gone and can anyone help find him?

Leave it to the WWE to make a former “great” in this business look like a chump. Batista has no more business in the main event than I have wrestling Hulk Hogan. While I am interested in the possibility of a feud between him and Daniel Bryan, I’m still waiting to see if the WWE can somehow take Batista/Randy Orton in the main event of WrestleMania XXX and get to a place where it becomes the third or fourth most important match of the night. So far this is what we know about the “Night in New Orleans.”

Randy Orton will win back the WWE crowd with his win over “The Animal” and in the process, the current WWE World Title holder will lose the strap to the new face of The Authority.

The night after WrestleMania XXX we can all lay odds that Batista will get in the ring, proclaim he is the greatest wrestler of all time and challenges anyone to face him. Bryan comes to the ring and beats Batista, taking the title. This allows Batista to leave gracefully. We all know he does not want to be part of the shtick the WWE is putting on right now.

Bryan finally gets the run he deserves as the leader of the company, the face of the WWE and the one person who defeats Triple H and Batista in back to back nights. The company then must decide who challenges Bryan for the title.

Maybe that is where Brock Lesnar comes in or the return of CM Punk woos the fans. The potential for Roman Reigns and Antonio Cesaro to become part of the equation throws another wrench in all of this.

The main reason this scenario is plausible is we all know the Monday after WrestleMania XXX will be one of the more exciting nights of the year. It will explain everything and leave us with nothing all in the same evening.

The fans could honestly get exactly what they want and still the WWE Universe will not be happy. That comes from the fact the change would not cause closure.

Wrestling is supposed to jump from program to program and tell a story with a beginning, a middle and an end – but allow itself to leave the door open by a crack for feuds to reinvent themselves. That is why Stong/Ric Flair, Flair/Steamboat, Rock/Austin, and Punk/Cena had the potential to blow the roof off of any arena at any time.

If the WWE’s plan all along was to give Bryan the title with the help of Batista on a short-time visit to the WWE Universe, then so be it. But it could have come up of a better concept and way better excitement to entice us.

We want Bryan to win the WWE World Title, but by this scenario, somehow, the fans might feel cheated. I know right now I do.
