WWE WrestleMania 27 Card Predictions Part 1 – Inside The Wheelhouse

John Cena vs. The Miz for the WWE title is a likely WrestleMania 27 main-eventI did blogs like this last year for WrestleMania 26 right around the same time last year and I decided to do it again as we get closer to WrestleMania 27 in the Georgia Dome. I’m going to continue to predict the card throughout the upcoming weeks and focus this week on the Top 3 matches of WrestleMania 27. These are the most important matches of WrestleMania 27 as they are the Main Event showcase matches.

World Heavyweight Championship Match
Edge (c) vs. Alberto Del Rio

This match is a lock for WrestleMania for sure. Edge is going to come out of the Elimination Chamber as World Heavyweight Champion. There is no way the WWE could really do a swerve right now as we get this close to ‘Mania because they need the time now to start building part of their card. This time is key right now, despite another PPV being in the way of ‘Mania because of how unsure the WWE is right now when it comes to people paying for this PPV.

There are 4 heels and 2 faces in the WWE Elimination Chamber match for the World Heavyweight Championship. Del Rio is a major heel in the company with a ton of heat so there is no chance they put him in their with another heel or turn him face in the next 8 weeks. If they went down that route and were successful they would have pulled off a miracle.

The WWE is not going to give us Mysterio/Del Rio again, Mysterio is hurt and the feud never really took the wrestling world by storm like I believe many thought it would. While the feud helped establish Del Rio as a star, it also wasn’t as good as it could be due to Mysterio’s health. That leaves us with the one face left in the match, Edge.

Edge has struggled being a cemented babyface in the past year and really starts to appear to be clicking as the face the WWE Creative Team wanted him to be finally. The days of Edge being one of the most hated heels appears to be in the back of the minds of the WWE fans. Edge can be put over as an even bigger face by taking on the very hated Del Rio at WrestleMania 27.

I love the idea of these two wrestling at a ‘Mania and giving us something fresh to enjoy. Hopefully the WWE sticks to their guns and gives us this match this year. I believe these two could have one of the best WWE feuds in the entire 2011 if given the chance to showcase their in-ring talents and their great skills on the mic.

WWE Championship Match
The Miz (c) vs. John Cena

I think I am in the majority when I tell you this match doesn’t interest me at all. I believe the WWE has truly dropped the ball with The Miz as the WWE Champion as he has been booked horribly during this first title reign. It reminds of CM Punk’s first reign and Jack Swagger’s first reign as World Champions. Despite holding the gold they all look, including The Miz, to not be “World title material.”

But the Devil’s advocate in this all is that I had the same feeling for the Batista/John Cena match going into WrestleMania 26 and I ended up loving the way the creative team built up the match. This has the possibility of doing the exact same thing for fans like me who aren’t truly sold on this being a WrestleMania Main Event. Similar to Edge/Del Rio this match has been building way before the Chamber has even happened.

The Miz eliminated John Cena from the Royal Rumble to cost him his WWE Championship shot. So there is that “fear” that The Miz doesn’t want Cena, which we know will eventually happen coming out of the Elimination Chamber PPV as Cena becomes #1 contender.

Now the WWE could go down the highly predicted route of giving us Cena/Orton at ‘Mania, something I, like many wrestling fans, do not want. Been there, done that. It’s not Rock/Austin, it’s not Hogan/Savage, please don’t give us this match

Lawler could win the WWE Championship at WrestleMania and Cena or Orton could win it shortly after the PPV. Would the WWE possibly do that so they could give us Cena/Orton and swerve us? Yes. Should they do that? No because that badly buries The Miz.

WWE must have heard the fans when there was NO response to the Cena/Orton stare down with the WrestleMania logo in the background. The fans just don’t care about seeing this again, give it 5 years and it could have that same feeling we get when we see Undertaker/Triple H, because we haven’t seen it in a while. Just don’t do it (again) this year…please.

I’m locking in that it will be Miz/Cena with the possibility of surprising everyone as a match that is well built heading into ‘Mania. I believe Miz and Cena will step their games up.

The Undertaker vs. Wade Barrett

Somewhere people in Titan Towers in Stamford, Connecticut are rejoicing that The Undertaker will be at WrestleMania 27. Amazing how in an era of “youth movements” in wrestling that the biggest wrestling company in the world will be depending on their most notable wrestler the last 20+ years isn’t it? No matter his age, The Undertaker delivers at WrestleMania and now the streak has become just as important as anyother title being defended at the event.

When you really look at it, you have to give the WWE credit. They are putting three established stars (Edge, Cena and The Undertaker) with three young stars (Del Rio, The Miz and Wade Barrett) at their biggest event at the year and it should work, just like it does every year at ‘Mania. It almost as if this WrestleMania could very well be the “passing of the torch” or welcoming new stars to the next chapter of the company. It’s a pretty exciting time for WWE fans.

How Barrett has gone this long without being a World Champion is a damn shame if you ask me. The guy was one of the best heels in Wrestling last year and had just joined the roster a year ago at this time. How about that for build?

Wade Barrett is a huge star in the making and despite not competing for a WWE Championship this year at WrestleMania, he should be competing for a prize just as big as a Championship. The opportunity to end The Undertaker’s streak at WrestleMania, the Super Bowl of Wrestling. So many have tried and failed, but can the young up & coming star finally stop “The Dead Man” at the biggest stage in Wrestling?

Now while I’m predicting this match, it’s not necessarily in stone yet. We don’t know if The Undertaker is completely healthy, it is believed he is and could still wrestle, but it may be in a different match.

We very well could get Kane to turn heel and have “The Brothers of Destruction” to take on The Corre’s Wade Barrett and Ezekiel Jackson to help protect the injured star. That is one possible and discussed match that could happen at WrestleMania.

You could also have The Undertaker vs. Sting as a possibility as well. I’m ranking this as a far shot of happening, but it’s possible. 2/21/11 should equal the return of The Undertaker, but if it is Sting it will be a huge help to the WrestleMania card and quite frankly, would be a wrestling miracle. While I’m on the fence about this possibility I’m almost sold on Sting not being at the Georgia dome in a wrestling capacity.

To me Barrett and The Undertaker makes the best sense to help the company in the future. Being in a match with The Undertaker at WrestleMania could be considered as an even bigger deal then being in a Title match at WrestleMania. The Undertaker and WrestleMania will one day be synonymous with one another if they aren’t already now. To be part of that history will be huge for a young star’s career.
