There is a lot of debate on social media and among pro wrestling journalists regarding Shawn Michaels’ praise of Daniel Bryan on RAW. Michaels on the other hand is not ready to give Bryan the ringing endorsement he needs to get his angle over.
Shawn Michaels specifically is the one that has me scratching my head here. Michaels was brought into the angle presumably to get it and Bryan over. Shawn as Bryan’s trainer and Triple H’s best friend could have went a long way giving Bryan the endorsement he desperately needs. Instead Michaels for whatever reason is extremely reluctant to do so. Michaels confirmed it with some very strange remarks he made to WWE.com about Bryan.
Once again instead of giving Bryan the endorsement, Michaels made sure to let everyone know that Bryan has a long way to go. After reading these comments I am actually surprised they got “very good” out of him on RAW.
“I believe he’s going to be a player in WWE for a long, long time, and that’s when greatness is established — over time. It’s not in one day. Greatness is something that stands the test of time, and I think that’s what he should focus on.”
In other words Michaels is telling you he has a long way to go. While that may be true Bryan doesn’t have that kind of time. He is the company’s top babyface right now (until Cena comes back). The WWE are selling him as the number-one contender to the WWE title. The company is expecting you to pay $50 to see him in their main-event. This is a guy that fans need to think is great at a time where all they hear is how marginal he is. Hearing it from Triple H is one thing. Now getting it from Michaels is a real kick in the pants.
Shawn has been around this game for decades. He knows how it works. He needed endorsements when he was coming through the ranks and so does Daniel Bryan. What does Shawn think he is here for? This may be the most selfish I have seen Michaels in years. His reluctance to put Bryan over is mind boggling considering that he trained him. Even if Michaels doesn’t think he is great it’s a work anyway. Why won’t he play ball?
Hey, at least we can probably confirm his denials a few months back regarding that conversation he had with Vince McMahon and his endorsement of Bryan.
