Why I am Thankful For Professional Wrestling

Tis the season to eat turkey, enjoy some football with the family and be critical of the WWE and professional wrestling in general.

As the holidays have approached, the calendar year for our favorite characters has gotten shorter and while we feast on the idea of fighting over the wishbone, Dolph Ziggler, Jack Swagger, Alberto Del Rio and others must be thinking to themselves or out loud, “What have I, What have I, What have I don’t to deserve this?”

The fact is while wrestling is still in a decline that a rejuvenated 40-year old Ric Flair at the height of his popularity could not fix the situation. That is left to college drop outs and high school wrestler wannabes who think landing on someone’s skull with a knee drop from10 feet in the air does not hurt or that the figure four isn’t painful.

But I am sure they could write a better wrestling script than the one the WWE and TNA are putting on now to try and gain ratings for their promotions.

But, in this season of being thankful and happy and joyous and full cheer, there are things to be thankful for in this business – here are some of them on my list.

The new mid card in the WWE

If this is really how the company figure to draw ratings, then this is a good place to start. The idea of Daniel Bryan, CM Punk, Dolph Ziggler, Dean Ambrose and others going out night after night and showing off their talents in hyper-filed matches is just what this company needs.

I have been waiting to see more HBK and Jericho, Steamboat and Savage and Arn Anderson and everyone. The Mid card should never have been diluted. It should have been expanded to do more for the company.

Daniel Bryan, CM Punk, Bobby Roode and Austin Aries

These four wrestlers do just that – they wrestle. They could easily be the four best in the business today and each could leave their promotions and start another one with ease – and sell it like the best thing going today.

Bryan is the wrestler of the year in my book. Roode is Arn Anderson with a better skill set. Punk maybe he best mic man of the past 10 years and Aries is the most exciting man in TNA. Need I say more?

Paul Heyman

There is nothing better than seeing the best in the world (sorry CM Punk) do what he does best.

Heyman has been the best the WWE has had to offer and when he is on the microphone, giving us a vignette that sounds like a Gary Hart sonnet, it is pure magic.

Everything Heyman touches turns to gold, every time he is on camera, it is a golden moment, everything in his arsenal is pure magic.

AJ Lee

She is a bitch one moment, then sexy as hell in another, AJ Lee is the Divas division and everyone else is left holding her bra strap.

The sad thing is that the WWE has 14 divas and has a chance to make it special, and with Vince’s point of view, there is nothing to do to help them get better. They are eye candy and nothing else.

Lee is a gem in a very rough concept. Oh, and a match between AJ Lee and Gail Kim would rock the house.

Bully Ray

Yes, we know who you are. You are another one of those Wrestler of the Year candidates and one of the best in the business.

He really became a self made man once leaving Team 3-D. TNA knows exactly what is has with him and that is not something to be lightly.

Of course there are more things to be thankful for. That is just a sample. I would love to hear what you are thankful for with this business.

At any point, Happy Thanksgiving. Enjoy the food, your family some football and of course time in the ring with all your favorites.
