Vince McMahon Wanted To Fight Dana White

Brock Lesnar isn’t the only WWE superstar that wanted to fight the UFC. According to a new report the Chairman of the Board himself, Vince McMahon wanted to fight the UFC just a couple of years ago. More specifically he wanted to fight UFC president Dana White at WrestleMania or a UFC event.

This is something else! UFC president Dana White broke the news for the first-time ever this past week when he was interviewed on Canadian television. Denis Gauthier, Jr. thought he was joking when he brought up the idea but even he was surprised when White revealed that the idea was indeed no joke.

White told Gauthier that he was approached by Vince to fight him at WrestleMania or a UFC event. Dave Meltzer reported that this was suggested for WrestleMania 27. If you think back to that time period there were several reports in 2010 of a meeting between White and Vince. Everyone speculated at the time that the meeting was about having Brock Lesnar wrestle The Undertaker at WrestleMania. I don’t think anyone had any idea that this was Vince’s Plan B or maybe even his Plan A.

There are a lot of reactions I have to hearing this. One, it is interesting that Vince would want to get back into the ring the year after he wrestled Bret Hart. Most regard that match as one of the worst in WrestleMania history. Two, what in the world was Vince thinking? The “fight” would have been absolutely awful!

The upside is that it would have garnered a ton of publicity. The idea of the heads of the WWE and the UFC wrestling would make major news, but at the same time it would also be mocked. White was very smart here in passing on the match. There really would have been no upside for White. White’s comments regarding the match though may incite a Vince McMahon crazed promo on an upcoming RAW.

White said that Vince was too old to fight. He said that Vince was probably going to get mad at him for saying that but he did. Watching the history of Vince McMahon I am inclined to think a public comment like that is fuel for one of those bizarre, maniacal Vince promos. I hope that isn’t the case because there won’t be any kind of payoff here, but I could definitely see it coming. I can’t even imagine Vince seriously thinking that White would consider the fight in the UFC.

Maybe Vince should have proposed a handicapped match with Tito Ortiz and Vince vs. Dana White. He probably would have turned it down, but I bet he would have thought about it.
