Top Ten Edge WWE Moments & Matches

Edge wins the WWE title at New Year's Revolution 2006Edge may be gone from the WWE but he has left us with 13 years worth of memories. Adam Copeland may be retired, but Edge will never be forgotten. Today I look back at the Top Edge Moments and Matches…without the benefit of flash photography.

My first inclination was to write a blog taking a look at the top five or ten Edge matches. Yet as I sat down to start blogging, it dawned on me that some of Edge’s greatest WWE moments came outside of the ring. So in no particular order here they are. The best of Edge in and out of the WWE rings.

Top Edge Moments

Edge visits John Cena’s house…WWE RAW August 2006. One of the best moments in RAW history was when Edge and Lita decided to pop into John Cena‘s house. The two were invited in by John Cena SR. who gave them a tour of the house. Edge and Lita mocked Cena throughout the tour and ended the visit by slapping John Cena’s pop in the face. This was a classic and often forgotten Edge moment.

Edge spears John Cena at One Night Stand 2006. Yet another great angle involving the Rated R Superstar. John Cena took a match off from his lengthy feud with Edge to defend the belt against Money in the Bank winner, Rob Van Dam. The end of this legendary match comes when Cena gives RVD the FU over the top the rope and a mystery man with a black helmet and leather trench coat slides into the ring. The mystery man spears John Cena through a table, hits the ref, removes his helmet, and the crowd goes nuts for Edge. RVD capitalizes and pins Cena to win the WWE championship.

Edge cashes in his Money in the Bank…New Year’s Revolution 2006. After winning a grueling Elimination Chamber match, Vince McMahon informs John Cena that he still has one more match. Vince announces that Edge is cashing in his Money in the Bank contract for a WWE title match and the crowd goes nuts. A maniacal Edge hits the ring and speared Cena twice to win the match and his first WWE championship. Sure we have seen this angle numerous times over the last few years, but this was the first time it was done and the fans loved the surprise.

Edge and Lita’s live celebration on RAW… January 2006. The night after defeating John Cena for the WWE championship at New Year’s Revolution, Edge declared that he and Lita would make love live on RAW to consummate his victory. In all of the years of WWE RAW, this may have been the raunchiest angle in the show’s history. Edge and Lita strip down to their underwear during a very heated five minutes only to be interrupted by the Nature Boy, Ric Flair. Flair told Edge he looked “dead in bed” and a brawl ensued. John Cena eventually came through the crowd and was in the ring along with Lita who was “naked” underneath the bed. It was wild, sensual, and one of the craziest RAW segments in WWE history.

The angle was so hot that I can’t even post the You Tube video up on the site. If you really want to see it, search around
You Tube and you’ll find it.

Edge and Lita get married on RAW…June 2005. This angle took place at the height of the Edge and Lita vs. Matt Hardy feud, although Matt had yet to officially return to the WWE. He may not have been there but the fans were frenzied with “Matt” chants. Edge brings his Money in the Bank suitcase with him which is priceless. Gene Snitsky gives a speech and we are off to the races. At one point when the priest asks if anyone objects to the marriage, Matt’s video plays on the Titan Tron, and the crowd goes nuts. The video winds up being a prank from Edge and Lita so no Matt in the house however an uninvited guest does show up. Kane comes through the floor and scares them off. Was it great? No, but it was certainly memorable.

The Top Edge Memorable Matches

Edge vs. Mick Foley WrestleMania XXII. Some may call this Mick’s last stand because this was arguably Mick Foley’s last great match. This was a hardcore match and the match certainly lived up to the billing. Anytime you have a barbed wire bat involved at a WrestleMania you know you are in for a great time. Edge bloodies Mick Foley with the bat until Foley drops Edge onto a sea of thumbtacks which petrifies the Rated R Superstar. The highlight and one of the most memorable moments in WrestleMania history comes when Foley takes Mr. Socko wrapped in barbed wire and shoves it into Lita’s mouth. This was just a fantastic match and a WrestleMania show-stealer.

Edge and Christian vs. The Hardys vs. The Dudleys TLC 2 WrestleMania X-Seven. Talk about a match that defined an era! A year after changing the game at No Mercy, the Hardys, Edge, and Christian were back but with the Dudleys in the mix. These six guys went out there and had one of the most memorable matches in WWE history. Their previous match at SummerSlam was fantastic, but I prefer the sequel. The final moment with Edge spearing Jeff Hardy off of the ladder may be what separated them from the others and launched their singles careers. Add Jim Ross’ call and you have arguably the greatest moment in Edge’s career.

Edge vs. Ric Flair TLC RAW January 16, 2006. A week after the infamous Lita and Edge celebration, Edge wrestled his first match on RAW as champion against Ric Flair. Like Foley, many will argue that this was Flair’s last great match. Most fans had their hesitations going in about seeing someone Flair’s age wrestling in a Tables, Ladders, and Chairs Match but Flair proved the naysayers wrong. The two told a hell of a story and by the end of the match they had the fans convinced that Flair was going to win the title. It was brutal, it was dramatic, and it was without a doubt one of the best from the Rated R Superstar.

Edge vs. Shawn Michaels Street Fight RAW February 2005. This was a hell of a match and one of the most underrated from both men. This was a real back and forth battle and arguably one of the greatest RAW matches of all time. For me, this was really a breakout moment for Edge as a singles star. One year later he would become WWE champion and never look back at the bottom of the cards. The two brawled back and forth, including Michaels opening up the match by whipping Edge with a belt. The spot of the match may have been HBK taking a camera from a fan in the crowd and taking Edge’s picture while he was down. This was a great and often forgotten Edge classic.

Edge and Rey Mysterio vs. Chris Benoit and Kurt Angle No Mercy 2002. This was the finals of the tag team tournament to crown new WWE tag team champions. The match was just 22 minutes of one of the best pure tag team wrestling matches you will ever see. The match moved at a great pace starting off slow and building to a dramatic finish. Edge took most of the punishment for his team which saw Rey come in for the hot tag and hit big moves. Edge and Rey Mysterio were a new team but wound up throwing some really cool new tag team moves into the match. All four guys had the crowd in the palm of their hands as everyone was on their feet for the finish. Angle and Edge battle over an ankle lock but in the end Edge taps to the new champions. This one is simply a classic!

Honorable Mention – Edge vs. Rey Mysterio, Kane, The Big Show, Wade Barrett, and Drew McIntyre Elimination Match…Elimination Chamber 2011. I put this one on the list because I still can’t come down off of the last ten minutes of this match. The final ten minutes of this one came down to Edge and Rey Mysterio who tore the house down. I remember actually being angry when this ended that we were stuck with Edge vs. Del Rio at WrestleMania 27 because I really wanted to see Edge vs. Rey Mysterio on the big show. The last ten minutes is just a phenomenal collection of near moves and dramatic pinfall attempts from both guys that saw Edge pin Rey to win the match. This whole match was great but the last ten minutes were some of the best you will ever see.
