Top Five Best Trish Stratus Matches

Trish Stratus vs. Mickie James tops Trishs' greatest matchesTrish Stratus has returned to the WWE and will inject some “Stratusfaction” back into the WWE Divas division. The former WWE champion will wrestle her first match in almost five years at WrestleMania 27. To celebrate her return, I look back at the top five Trish Stratus matches.

I am not a big fan of the WWE Divas division but I always liked Trish’s matches. She is probably the most underrated women’s wrestler that the WWE has ever had. Her matches were always fast, fun, exciting, and unique. Even more impressive is that she was able to bring the best out of a variety of opponents from Jazz to Lita, to Victoria to Mickie James. Trish Stratus was definitely one of a kind.

We can sit here and debate Trish Stratus’ best matches for the next three months but I went back and watched about a dozen of her most noteworthy matches and came up with this list. Agree or disagree? Leave a comment and let me know which match you think was Trish’s best.

1 – Trish Stratus vs. Mickie James WrestleMania 22 April 2, 2006. This was historic on so many levels. For one, it has been years since women had a great match at WrestleMania and these two did it. Two, this was the first time a WWE Diva had ever won WWE gold in her WrestleMania debut. Three, this was one of the best booked storylines of the last decade and maybe the best in WWE Diva history. Unlike today where we are two months away from WrestleMania and the buildup just started a month ago, this was a storyline that had been building for five months. The WrestleMania crowd loved this match, especially one of the most provocative spots you’ll ever see in a WWE Divas Match. Mickie used a roundhouse kick to the head to score the pin and the title at WrestleMania. She didn’t win but to me, this was Trish’s finest moment.

2 – Trish Stratus vs. Jazz vs. Victoria WrestleMania 19 March 30, 2003. All three women were at the top of their game in this one. Victoria was the defending the champion in this bout. Jazz and Trish opened up with a variety of strong style and submission moves that looked fairly stiff (no pun intended). Great back and forth match with tons of athletic near falls by Trish. As Jim Ross said about Trish in this one, “That dog will hunt.” Jazz was a real MVP here. Everything Jazz hit on Victoria and Trish looked like it hurt. The only thing that kept this one from the top was the finish. Chick Kick out of nowhere to Victoria was kind of lame with all of the great near fall attempts during the match. Trish wins the title in one of the best WrestleMania Diva Matches you will ever see.

3 – Trish Stratus vs. Lita RAW December 06, 2004. Trish wears a face mask here after Lita broke her nose. This was a RAW main event which sounds unheard of in 2011 but the fans were really into Lita vs. Trish. It should also be noted that this match takes place in Lita’s home state of North Carolina. Super hot lock up as the women fall outside of the ring from the tight lock up. Trish takes a great backdrop over the top rope to the floor and is immediately hit by a tope. This was just a great match with a lot of big moves including a super-plex off of the top rope. The crowd is going nuts for every Lita near fall of the match. Lita wins the match with a fantastic moonsault and the crowd just goes absolutely wild. This was one of the best women’s matches you will ever see.

4 – Trish Stratus vs. Victoria Chicago Street Fight RAW January 27, 2003. Victoria is the defending champion here. Great open as Victoria attacks Trish with a pool stick as she is walking down the ramp. The ladies are dressed in their usual gear which is kind of odd for a street fight, but so be it. The girls spend the first 90 seconds of the match fighting outside of the ring and the crowd loves it. I can’t recall another Divas match in the last twenty years that had as much heat as this one. Trish nails Victoria with two trash can lids ala drum cymbals and the crowd loves it. Victoria takes an awesome bump from a kick to the outside floor. This one is a real brawl. Tons of fast near falls. Finish of the match saw Trish dumped over the top rope and pinned out of nowhere about a minute later. The only thing that kept this one from being number one was the bad finish which the crowd hated. Trish is attached after the match by Jazz.

5 – Trish Stratus vs. Melina Survivor Series November 27, 2005. These two overcompensated for a lame angle which saw MNM kidnap Trish Stratus the week before on RAW. Trish was accompanied by Mickie James for the match and is the defending champion. Great match here, with Trish opening up super hot on Melina with a ton of offense. Mickie and Melina brawl during the match as MNM are ejected for interfering. On a side note, Trish hits Melina with a rare spinebuster and after reading Batista’s book about his affair with Melina I am guessing this rare spinebuster wasn’t just coincidence. Everything was smooth here until the finish in which Trish over shot a bulldog off the top rope for the win. Even still, great match and definitely one of Trish’s best.
