Top 10 Best Dolph Ziggler WWE Matches

Today I celebrate arguably the most exciting pro wrestler in the WWE today, Dolph Ziggler. This generation’s show stealer rarely has a bad match yet there are several that stand above the rest. That is why today I look back at the top ten WWE matches of Dolph Ziggler’s career.

[adinserter block=”1″]Dolph Ziggler is a very special wrestler. Ziggler has found himself a niche as the workhorse of the WWE. Ziggler is often at full speed whether he is wrestling in the main-event or opening the card. Ziggler is a lot like great utility WWE stars of the past Shawn Michaels, Bret Hart, Randy Savage, and Curt Hennig in that you can always count on him to get the best out of everyone. That is what made it so difficult to go back and find ten Ziggler matches that stood above the rest.

The easy part here is that Dolph has only hit his stride in recent years. So it isn’t as if I have to go back through a decade of matches. But how do you find the ten best from a guy that has one good match every week 52 times a year? I did the best that I could looking back at the matches that stuck out of the 2012 Money in the Bank winner along with some help from You Tube. Without further delay here are the top ten Dolph Ziggler WWE matches in no particular order.

Dolph Ziggler vs. Kaval, Survivor Series 2010 – The wrestler known as Low Ki made a brief yet memorable stint in the WWE back in 2010. In my opinion the gem of Kaval’s WWE run was his Survivor Series 2010 match with Dolph Ziggler. Great offense in this match by Kaval and the two meshed beautifully. They clicked great in this fast-paced intercontinental title match which featured a ton of near falls. This match was regarded by many as match of the show.

Dolph Ziggler vs. Daniel Bryan, Bragging Rights 2010 – Both of these guys were on the way up with Bryan showing loads of potential to break through and Ziggler finally getting the attention he so rightly deserved. The champion vs. champion was the usual back and forth match which in my opinion stole the show. This was a longer than normal opener which saw Bryan get the win. The counters and reversals from both men made this match fun and exciting. Ziggler tapped out here for the loss.

Dolph Ziggler vs. Randy Orton, Night of Champions 2012 – It was real difficult to nail down the best match between these two because quite frankly, all of them have been great. For whatever reason Ziggler has been able to get more great matches out of Orton than anyone. I decided on this one since it was a pay per view match and had a bit more time than their usual television matches. This was the usual fast paced Ziggler match but the added time created more drama. Some will argue that Punk vs. Cena stole the show but I tend to differ and defer to this match at Night of Champions.

Dolph Ziggler vs. Rey Mysterio, SummerSlam 2009 – Like several Ziggler opponents, these guys wrestled quite a bit so finding the best of the bunch wasn’t easy. I went with their SummerSlam match as this is regarded by some as the best of all of Ziggler’s matches in the WWE. In my opinion this was a breakout moment for Ziggler. The show opener wound up stealing a show that featured Shawn Michaels, Jeff Hardy, and CM Punk in main-events. Ziggler had some real cool setups here for pinfall attempts but it would be the intercontinental champion that reigned supreme winning after hitting a huracanrana. I should also note that they recreated the press gutbuster Dean Malenko used to hit on Mysterio during their WCW series.

Dolph Ziggler vs. Edge, Royal Rumble 2011 – Ziggler had lost a lot of momentum coming into the Rumble. Some felt that Ziggler was pushed too soon while others felt that he wasn’t hitting the mark in the main-event. Ziggler quieted those critics with a heck of a match that night against Edge. Ziggler provided the usual back and forth pin attempts to keep this one exciting although most expected Edge to take the win. Predictably he did but the two had one of the most memorable WWE title matches in Royal Rumble history.

Dolph Ziggler vs. CM Punk, Royal Rumble 2012 – Ziggler returned to the Royal Rumble championship picture but this time he was challenging for the WWE championship. Like Ziggler and Orton, he and Punk had fantastic chemistry that was a bit unexpected. The two had plenty of great television matches (more on that later) but this one was a gem. Unfortunately the match ended with Ziggler getting pinned a handful of times thanks to John Laurinaitis, but he made his point. I remember coming away from it hoping that the WWE would change plans and push him and Punk at WrestleMania it was that good of a match.

Dolph Ziggler vs. Chris Jericho, SummerSlam 2012 – Jericho’s last bit of duty on the way out of the WWE was to help get Dolph Ziggler over. He did this by giving Ziggler the spotlight in their SummerSlam match. Hardcore fans were eagerly anticipating this match and it delivered everything and then some. Ziggler once again opened SummerSlam and yet again stole the show. The biggest disappointment here was the finish although Ziggler would have the final word the next night on Monday Night RAW.

Dolph Ziggler vs. John Morrison 2 out of 3 falls IC Title Match, 11/20/09 – Morrison vs. Ziggler is probably one of the more underrated series of matches over the last few years in the WWE. This match took place on SmackDown with Morrison defending the intercontinental title. Morrison retained the title two falls to one but this was without a doubt one of the most exciting matches in SmackDown history. Morrison got the win with Starship Pain but Ziggler made his mark as one of the most entertaining up and comers for 2010.

Dolph Ziggler vs. CM Punk (Raw, Nov. 21, 2011) – I already ranked their match at the Rumble in the top ten and while I tried not to use the same opponent twice, this one was just too good not to mention. The match was new at the time and delivered an even better high-paced, action-packed match than most expected. The non-title match between champions had the live crowd hanging on every move by the finish. Punk hits the GTS for the win in what was arguably the best RAW match of 2011.

[adinserter block=”2″]Dolph Ziggler vs, Kofi Kingston September 24, 2012 RAW – This show is probably remembered by most as the return (via satellite) of Jerry Lawler but in the ring it was Kofi and Dolph that reminded fans about the greatness of their rivalry. The only bummer here was that a commercial break interrupted this great match. I know there are a lot of great Kofi vs. Dolph matches in the past but this is the freshest so I opted to go with this one. The runner up would probably be their match from RAW Roulette otherwise known as the night Punk dropped the pipe bomb.
