TNA Wrestling – The joke that keeps on giving

Dixie Carter and Hulk HoganTNA president Dixie Carter’s husband Serg Salinas took part in a wrestling angle at the TNA Impact taping, saving his helpless wife Dixie from a Ric Flair attack (a familiar theme I’m sure for Ric). Yes folks, it appears the TNA writing team has just bought themselves another couple months of employment security.

Just when you think there is nothing left in the monologue TNA Wrestling has another TNA Impact taping. In and out of the ring, TNA Wrestling continues to become quite the laughing stock of professional wrestling. Between Dixie Carter’s shoot interview, Eric Bischoff and Mick Foley’s blogging, failing on Monday nights and taking a Monday night salaried cast with them, declining buy rates and ratings, and the ridiculous weekly booking, and Dixie’s fascination with Twitter, TNA led by Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff has done more damage in eight months than Dixie could have done on her own in eight years.

[adinserter block=”2″]I thought it got bad when Dixie Carter became a weekly character. I found her “candid” expressions throughout the Monday night Impact shows to be one of the most unintentionally hilarious shots I have seen in years in pro wrestling. Her promos between content and delivery make Robert Gibson look like Roddy Piper. There wasn’t a whole lot of mystery as to what was going on here. Remember people, her “reputation is on the line.” Now was that a scripted promo Dixie or were you talking for real?

What is a writing team from WCW to do with declining buy rates and ratings? The answer is easy, take your money mark, make her a television star, stroke the ego, and suck as much out of the pool as you can. What is a writing team to do when those buy rates and ratings continue to spiral downward? Well of course, take the husband of the money mark and make him a star. Surely the new celebrity pro wrestling couple aren’t going to criticize a product in which they are now featured right?

It has gotten way past the point in TNA Wrestling where I feel sorry for Dixie Carter. Now for her to think that the answer to turning TNA around is by making her family on-screen characters, the woman is dumber than I ever thought and I have little sympathy for someone that naive. She seems like a nice woman but her shoot interview exposed her as being even more clueless than I thought she was. “How much do you think Vince McMahon would take for his company?” Oh what a comedienne. Did Mick Foley give you that line out of his stand up?

Reading about Dixie Carter and her husband involved in wrestling angles in TNA remind me of the dying days of WCW. Not that it should be any surprise considering who the writing team is in TNA. I am thoroughly convinced that Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff have some kind of bet with one another to see which one could convince Dixie Carter of the worst idea. Even Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff can’t be that delusional.

[adinserter block=”1″]The shame of it all is that a year ago as bad as TNA Wrestling was, it was not nearly this bad. This is a company that was trying to move forward from 35,000 buys on pay-per-view that can now barely get 10,000. Could you imagine any other company continuing to employ a management team that was responsible for this? Quite honestly I am more curious to meet the 5,000 TNA fans that do continue to buy shows and ask them what it is that I am missing.

Sure it is easy for me to sit back here and criticize TNA Wrestling behind a keyboard. But honestly, could I really do that much worse if someone asked me to give it a try? I am certainly not politicking for a TNA booking job as I think being a mortgage broker would be more secure. Yet as long as Dixie Carter, Mick Foley, Eric Bischoff, Vince Russo, and Hulk Hogan see nothing wrong with TNA and continue to point fingers at people like me, well nothing is going to change.

Oh and Dixie take it from me. Pro wrestling has not been very kind to marriages. You are playing with fire the second you take your relationship from behind the curtain into the ring. You may want to ask Hulk Hogan’s ex for the name of a good attorney.
