It has been a long time coming, but perhaps WWE may have put their faith back in to Finn Balor. After his shoulder injury sustained at SummerSlam 2016, it has been a long road for Balor to get back to where he belongs – at the top. After Balor’s return to WWE at the Raw after WrestleMania, he has endured pointless stories in addition to a failed feud with Bray Wyatt over the summer.
The company has seemed to redeem their intents with Balor, finally pairing him up with fellow Good Brothers Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson. Not only does the alliance breathe new life into all three men, the storied history with the Bullet Club further helps the reunion of the former NJPW members. This is a great thing, considering that Balor connects with fans with the talent to prove his starpower. Fans want to see this unfold, and they want to see all of Balor Club succeed on the main roster.
While the Rumble always poses various scenarios in efforts to present that it’s anyone’s match to win, I can’t help but to think the top two favorites are Balor and Shinsuke Nakamura. Many fans are hoping that Nakamura will be the one to challenge WWE Champion AJ Styles at WrestleMania in New Orleans. With Balor, the scenario is more complicated. With the unstoppable Brock Lesnar, it presents a David vs. Goliath scenario. However with his Good Brothers, Balor will have an advantage in efforts to outsmart the Beast to reclaim what he’s never lost.
Then there’s the Elimination Chamber PPV that will come up in between events, in which it is exclusive to Raw. Rumors are that Roman Reigns will take on the Beast in a WrestleMania rematch in New Orleans. The company would be insane if they have Reigns win the Rumble in Philly, which no one wants to see. However, if Nakamura was to win the Rumble, that opens the Reigns possibility. Again, if Balor finds himself in the Chamber too, there’s Gallows and Anderson as his insurance policy to get to New Orleans.
Rewinding back to present time, after the Raw 25 show this past Monday, The Balor Club received a public stamp of approval from Degeneration X in one of the many segments of the night. It seemed as it was a passing of the torch with two factions colliding under one roof. Considering that Balor has ties with Triple H thanks to his successful NXT run, that moment was the biggest indication that we could see Balor take the win at the Rumble and head to New Orleans. If someone else wins, perhaps it’s just yet another detour to get there.
Balor will certainly come full circle if he does overcome all the odds and compete in his first WrestleMania. It will be a huge moment that must happen. Not for just Balor, but his fans and for the legacy of the original Bullet Club. The Bullet Club is still going strong, which is a testament in its own right in New Japan. It seems that the beginning of a new story for Balor is going in the right direction; let’s just hope that the company doesn’t make them do a complete turnaround for the worst.
