The WWE is ruining CM Punk/Brock Lesnar with Poor Booking

As a wrestling fan, I am always quick to take one side or another like everyone else. The dislike of John Cena. The thought of poor booking of Randy Orton. The way the feud between Sheamus and Big Show went on way too long. And now, the fact that the CM Punk and Brock Lesnar feud is being destroyed by the WWE for one simple reason – Brock Lesnar is nowhere to be seen or found.

I find it ironic that it was the same kind of tactic used in the CM Punk/Chris Jericho match at Payback, only this time, the WWE needs Paul Heyman to being that big lug to the ring and cause more damage to Punk or have him confront the former WWE Champion more often to legitimize this feud.

There is no doubt in my mind and the millions (and millions) of WWE fans that this match will deliver on so many levels (provided Heyman gets involved and Curtis Axel stays out of the match). But the proof everyone, including myself is when the two confront each other before the match takes place.

I hope the WWE and its “creative team” is reading this and thinking long and hard on how to “improve” this match. Can the match exceed expectations? Yes. Will it with the current way this match is being promoted? No.

And here are my thought on that.

One of the greatest rivalries in professional wrestling history was Harley Race and Ric Flair. Race brought out the best in the younger, more gregarious wrestler. He made Flair look like a million bucks in the ring. He showed the more athletic showman how to rake in cash and how to draw. He also taught the kid to “sell” like nobody’s business. For every Race, there had to be a Flair.

Wrestling prides itself on the hunter and the hunted. Like a champion and its top contender or a wrestler out for revenge or even a new star trying to make a name for himself, there needs to be performer who possesses something another wrestler wants. It can be revenge, a title or even a possession (a female, a valet, etc.). In this case, Punk wants revenge.

The only way Punk can get his revenge is by slaying the giant and taking what he thinks is his. This time, it is his self respect back (somehow, I knew the WWE would get back to a respect angle with Punk).

While having Lesnar remain out of the picture while a battered, bruised and hyped Punk battles Curtis Axel and takes shots at Paul Heyman may be brilliant for the “anticipation” of the battle, it does nothing to give fans what they want – to see these two giants beat the hell out of each other.

And make no mistake, there are two ways to look at this match. Punk will win and Heyman will plead for their “friendship” back, or Lesnar will beat the hell out of Punk, causing him to have self doubt and lose some of his mojo. Personally, I like the second option because it means the two will meet again at Night of Champions.

We all want Lesnar/Punk to be better than Cena/Lesnar or Triple H/Lesnar. We want it to be better than Big Show/Sheamus. We want it to be better than Mark Henry/Ryback. But in order for it to happen, the WWE must get these two in front of each other more.

The success of this match really depends on the build up. That can’t happen if we cannot see both contestants.
