The Undertaker returned to WWE SmackDown this Friday night after a lengthy absence. Accompanied by a new entrance song, Taker cut a heck of a promo and drew more interest in the Triple H vs. Undertaker WrestleMania 27 match in five minutes than the WWE has been able to do in two weeks.
[adinserter block=”2″]A key story here is the new entrance song of the Undertaker. He is now coming to the ring “Ain’t No Grave” by Johnny Cash which was the song from the 2.21.11 videos. It is a radical change from the classic Undertaker theme that never seems to go away or get old. I liked the new theme and for someone with a slower, more methodical walk to the ring like The Undertaker it works.
This was the first appearance of The Undertaker since the middle of October. Back in the middle of October the Undertaker last appeared on SmackDown to build up his match against Kane at Bragging Rights 2010. Undertaker ended up losing the match due to an attack by Nexus at the pay per view. The attack was just an angle to cover up time off needed by The Dead Man to heal injuries. The angle was also setup to create interest in an Undertaker vs. Wade Barrett WrestleMania 27 match which has since been scrapped.
Triple H cut a much more interesting promo on WWE RAW this past Monday telling his side of the story. His promo has created quite a buzz in the wrestling world for what he said about the rest of the locker room. Hunter told Undertaker that there are no challenges in the locker room other than the Undertaker and the only thing left he has to accomplish in wrestling is ending the streak. There has been quite a bit of outrage following the promo with most feeling he buried the rest of the locker room by saying what he said in regards to no challenges, etc. What is even more ironic is that at some point Hunter will retire and run the show so if there is ever a time where the guy would want to strengthen the younger crew of talent one would think it would be now.
[adinserter block=”1″] There is still a bit of disappointment in the wrestling world with the lack of Sting vs. The Undertaker at WrestleMania 27. Personally I don’t get it. After seeing Sting return to TNA on Impact I have even less interest in ever seeing a Sting vs. Undertaker match. I think that Taker vs. Triple H will be much better due to the fact that you have at least one guy in there that can go instead of a guy banged up and a guy at age 52 that moves as if he has rocks in his boots. I think Triple H and Undertaker steal the show at WrestleMania 27.
It has also been reported that Shawn Michaels will not be involved in the match. Original plans pointed to Michaels being the special guest referee for the match. I think that had more to do with the rumored career vs. streak stipulation. My hunch is that this one sets up career vs. streak at WrestleMania 28 with Shawn Michaels returning to the ring as the special guest referee.
